1. very fearful every soldier is a probable detainee

2. I Will help
Harro Bos ,   Israel/ netherlands   (07.20.08)
Tell me what to do and I will help! I think it's time for action
3. Counter-productive.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.20.08)
While well-intentioned, they are actually decreasing the chances of a successful conclusion as if the last rotten deal didn't do enough harm.
4. letter
Fred ,   usa   (07.20.08)
The signer are still naive. They also would seem ignorant of fact the governement is conductiong negotiations for Schalit's return. They further appear willing to give away anything, including the state for him. Sadly, this recent exchange does not bode well with Hamas now. Destroy Gaza and find Schalit and take him back.
5. Gilad Shalit
Wise Saba ,   Western Negev   (07.20.08)
Give Hamas what they want & bring Gilad home now before it's too late. When Gilad is home safe & sound, blow up Gaza!
6. yes, but...
tom ,   toronto, canada   (07.20.08)
we all share the same objective, but what does this letter accomplish, other than to vent some feelings and fill up a column in a newspaper? does this letter strengthen or weaken the israeli government's ability to negotiate? it clearly reflects the loss of confidence of the israeli public in the government's ability to provide leadership. when a bunch of 21-year-old kids feel the need to lecture the government on how to do its business, something is very wrong. if anything, it draws attention, yet again, to israel's key weaknesses, namely its morality which values each human life, its freedom of speech which allows such letters to be published, and its democracy which lets citizens pressure the government on policy issues. but drawing attention to your weaknesses is not a good way to get what you want in a negotiation. it certainly will not make hamas more willing to release shalit, nor will it make future kidnappings less likely.
7. The liberation of Gilead Shalit.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (07.20.08)
Only a complet closing of the borders of the Gaza Strip, as long as needed, will bring to the liberation of Gilead Shalit. There should be no other option.
8. Simple solution...
David ,   Houston TX   (07.20.08)
Unleash the IDF with the clear objective of killing and capturing 100 terrorists per day. They will quickly hand over Shalit or face destruction of their terrorist army. The weakness now being demonstrated by the corrupt Olmert-Livni-Barak circus will only lead to more terrorism.
9. it's time...
YOEL CHRIQUI ,   ISRAEL   (07.20.08)
for attacking Gaza and save him. No matter how many pals would be killed during the process. We must recreate some deterrence, and discourage them from more kidnappings.
10. Olmert's blundering has made Shalit's release much harder!
redmike ,   Tel Aviv   (07.20.08)
After the very foolish exchange last week the demands for Shalit's release will be so high that Israel will be unable to meet them. Shalit was effectively sentenced to a much longer period of incarceration than was necessary. How much longer must the country be hampered by a PM that is incapable of governing? I am hoping to see street protests soon and will happily join them! Mike
11. "No longer naive" Hah?
Miriam ,   Israel   (07.20.08)
Giving away Gaza to our enemies and continuing to give away other Jewish cities to the enemies, talking about "sharing" Jerusalem with our enemies, ..., releasing terrorists with blood on their hands, while our enemies carry on attacking us, killing and maiming Israelis, and you claim you're "no longer naive"? Not only "naive" but stupid! You don’t even have the courage to take to the streets and overthrow this powerless government.
12. sloman@netvision.net.il
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.20.08)
One Jewish life is worth more that ten thousand Arab lives. Give them all their stinking terrorists that are in Israeli Prisons. Just get our boy back. When we have him back obliterate Gaza.
13. Perhaps he already is... And moreover...
Really ,   Worried   (07.20.08)
If Kuntar tried to kidnap CIVILIANS in the past, is that not the likely thing he and his friends will try to do again NOW?!!! It must be so much easier to kidnap civilians from the border communities of Gaza than soldiers at the Lebanese border. If two dead soldiers could procure a prize like the one we just paid, what prize would not the kidnapping of a child or two from the vincinity communities of Gaza bring forth?!!! Horrible thougth... But we just released a kidnapper of civilians and a child killer, so we had better prepare for its possible consequences...
14. Israel is the hostage
Dov Adelman ,   New York USA   (07.20.08)
This is the result of a national policy that sets the freedom of individual soldiers againts the welfare of the greater good. While admirable for its compassion, negotiating for soldiers with terrorist organizations will only tie the hands of the politicians who should be employed in bringing about the end of Hamas, instead of giving it authority and headlines. Its tragic to lose a young soldier, its more tragic to lose Israel.
15. # 6 the idiot
(07.20.08)
1rst those 21 year olds are the ones who are protecting us , peopleliving in israel and not canada . 2nd , i hope your son or your grandson will be taken as prisoner and then only then come back to ynet and lets hear what you have to say ,iam sure it will be totaly differant .
16. To #14: Dov: Well said - He's not your kid!
David ,   Karmeil, Israel   (07.20.08)
You sit in New York and tell us what to do. You want to help? Then get your butt over here, become an Israeli, go to the Army. become a General and launch a huge attack on Gaza in which 5,000 plus Israeli soldiers will die, the world will be "enraged" and Israel will be condemned by one and all. Then you can go to the G-d forbid funerals of our soldiers, our children and all those who will have died because of your stupidity! If you really want to help then support Gilad's family. Can you imagine what statements like yours do to them? There is a way to stop this whole Gaza debacle but the question is will the Israeli Government, now or a future one, will do it. Starve the Gazans into submission. Nothing in; nothing out; no electricity no fuel until they release Gilad. As for the "welfare of the greater good", well how would you feel if you were a soldier and your country sacrificed you for the "greater good"? Our people and particularly our children are precious and are not expendable!
17. Well, he CAN come back in a casket
Millie ,   Israel   (07.20.08)
and it's all your and your cabinet's fault.
