Keren ,   Israel-SP   (07.20.08)
Could a greater shleper than this one exist?and more over, represent Israel at UN? livni is another great shleper ,which maquiage and good clothing can not hide. Now,that we reached the botton of the pit, things will start becoming better and better. It is just a matter of time.
2. Livni reportedly insisted post go to a woman...
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (07.20.08)
Nothing reported here suggests that Shalev is more qualified or more suitable for this post than Pinkas. But this selection provides more evidence that Livni is NOT qualified to be PM. It's been reported Livni was looking for a woman - any woman - to fill this post to raise her standing with Israel's female electorate. (After all, there's an election coming.) If true, she is putting politics before the nation's welfare. And Israel doesn't deserve another Olmert.
3. To #2 Are you sure that is a woman?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (07.20.08)
How about having people from the real world and not professors? We are lucky that tzipi did not ask them to appoint suha arafat!
4. hang on
Yisraeli   (07.20.08)
hang on guys dont be quick to put down Shalev just because Livni appointed her and shes a woman. In already comforted that Olmert, Barak and Peres didnt get their choice which can only be a major plus for Israel. I dont know Pinchas or Shalev but I can tell you consular positions in the USA are usually filled by party hacks and to date have always been hard lefties. I for one am willing to see how Shalev fills the roll. So congratulations Shalev and I hope you make us Israel proud.

grand ma the peace now jurist go to the UN. Ridicule choice; you need a real ambassador not a knee jerking "please peace by pity" arab lover. How long this government will continue to humiliate jewish people. She will be eaten alive there....

how can livni praise gellerman when he usually was not there and was atending to his own private business. his number 2 is a total failure............. in addition I think there are enough good people in the office that livni should have appointed a career diplomat.........

I don't know anything about Prof. Shalev, but as a New Yorker I became familiar with Alon Pinkas from his frequent television appearances. I can tell you that while he might have been a bit liberal for some peoples' tastes, he was still an excellent advocate for Israel by virtue of his personal charm, sense of humor, and excellent command of English.
