Moriah ,   sacramento   (07.20.08)
It looks like Abu-Rahma needs to get a better pair of shoes. The ones he's been wearing are giving him blisters.
2. Put an end to these illegal demonstrations.
GZ ,   USA   (07.20.08)
The photo shows soldier aiming at the chest level. How could that shot result in an injured toe? But that is besides the point. The fence construction area is (or should be declared) a military zone. These demonstrations should not be allowed. They create danger both for soldiers and civilians and should be dealt with with utmost severity.
3. The film seems to be cut . We don't we see the
Rachel ,   usa   (07.20.08)
whole scene? The soldier doesn't have his gun directed in the correct position to shoot at this person ....It seems directed more toward the camera ...Something is not right .....Someone shot like this would have more than a light wound ......More Pallywood?
4. notice

5. WHAT'S IN THAT MISSING FOOTAGE?
stude ham   (07.20.08)
until we get it from the source we have to very seriously question the conclusions that the images would have us conclude. footage? pardon the pun...

1. The gun is clearly NOT aimed at that man. 2. His feet are NOT bleeding at all. 3. Whatever treatment he receives is not about his legs.
7. this is not a case of Na'alin
israeli ,   israel   (07.20.08)
it's a case of Na'alaim (shoes).
8. two assailants, two witnesses; block either & the case drops
observer   (07.20.08)
there at least two IDF who cooperated; one posed the blinded bound detainee as a "living target" and the other aimed his gun and shot. The third under-cover young man seed to approve the story. At least two Arab voices in the back ground at the end of the video: have you filmed them, a man voice. Yes; answered the girl. Will Israel listen to two Arab eyewitnesses, or to the IDFs' "explanation"? No arrest has happened, no arrest is going to.
9. MORE RUBBISH
CHARLIE JAMBO ,   SCOTLAND   (07.20.08)
THIS IS PURE THEATRE THE ISRAELI SOLDIER COULDN'T HAVE HIT HIM IN THE FOOT FROM THAT ANGLE REMEMBER MOHAMMED AL-DURA B'TSELEM IS A DISGRACE
10. For all the folks condemning Israel over this
Leah   (07.20.08)
The soldiers actions were clearly excessive, wrong, and sad, but remember in all likelyhood the man was probably participating in violent actions himself ,as most of the demonstrations against the border fence usually turn violent, and was arrested and bound then shot at in his foot, which was condemned in the strongest terms by the IDF,he sustained a light wound to his leg and did receive prompt medical treatment. Now compare this incident as regrettable as it is to the actions of the Lebanese government officials, along with the tens of thousands of Lebanese citizens who welcomed with open arms and regarded as a hero a man who beat a 3 and a half year old Jewish girl to death. I heard very few Arab people condemning this welcome home party for a brutal babykiller, so please don't whine when Israelis are insensitive or indifferent to what happened to this man as wrong as it maybe.
11. how conveniant,

the pal girl had a camera & taped the event.. What happened to the missing footage if even true? Another case of Arab propoganda.

Palestinian   (07.20.08)
No you don't shoot someone in the leg like that! This is on camera, what about all these stories that don't get captured on camera, this underlying racism that you people have. This sodlier should be put in prison for life.

14. El Dorra all over again?
Moshe ,   Tel Aviv   (07.20.08)
Why dont we stop fooling our selves? Why dont we admit when we are wrong. Its obvious that this man was shot while handuffed and blindfolded. Dont throw Israel's honor and dignity in the trash. Let there be an investigation and let the guilty be punished.
15. Aw, he got a boo boo on his toesie

18. The angle of the shot is all wrong
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (07.20.08)
The soldier aiming and firing the assault rifle wasn't aiming at Ashraf - he was aiming slightly to the left of him (from the photographer's view), and most certainly *not* towards his foot - at that distance the soldier would have needed to aim towards the *ground* rather than towards the background area of the cameraman. And at that range, Ashraf wouldn't have gotten away with a light injury from a rubber bullet, because it's just a rubber *coated* bullet at the end of the day. It may be effective for crowd control purposes at a distance, but at 1.5 meters... At 1.5 meters the bullet wouldn't have bounced away, but would have instead entered the body. Were it to hit the chest, it would have cracked, or even broken, a rib. At 1.5 meters, a rubber-coated bullet is near-lethal. What I conclude from this movie is not a case of physical abuse with potentially lethal firearms, but rather a calculated scare tactic. One soldier held Ashraf, while the other fired next to him, probably to scare him away from future protests. Ashraf panicked from the gunfire and fell on his foot. It doesn't make the act justifiable - quite the contrary, it's still a despicable act and it still goes against army values, and psychological abuse in this case is only marginally less severe than actual physical abuse, not to mention that a soldier here still actively misused a lethal firearm. But it isn't the hype that's claimed by B'Tselem and so actively seized by Ynet, or by the anti-Israeli posters here - there's no need to make the event more than it is simply to gain ratings, it's bad enough just as it is.
19. how come our soldier is already guilty??
YOEL ,   Raanana   (07.20.08)
Remember all the demonstrations were violent, and many soldiers have been injured. If I got some stones, I would also react violently. No matter what happened during this pallywood incident, I don't think that palestinian had been arrested for nothing. The reason why the beginning of the Record is missing, is only because this guy had something ugly to hide... I have a big respect for my soldiers, and they have my full support. Especially these days, when we hear about kidnapping threats. This is a way of deterrence, and they must behave harsher towards palestinians, and keep distance. The ennemy shows no mercy, and is joyful when bad things occur to our soldiers. That's why I don't care about palestinians. Our soldiers' behaviour doesn't make more hatred, because they already hate us, wishing our death. What else?

What about the underlying racism that your people have towards Jewish Israelis? What about the way most of your leaders and people refer to the Jewish people as pigs and monkeys and cancer or the aids virus? What about the way your media and leaders and the majority of your populace fawned over a man who beat a Jewish child to death and referred to him as a hero and beacon of light . The soldier in question was clearly wrong in his behaviour, but at least the Israeli army admitted that and apologized, and the man did receive prompt medical attention for his wound, what happened here is nothing compared to the street celebrations and partys that go on after a Palestinian suicide bombs inside an Israeli school bus or restaurant. I also don't agree that the soldier in question should get life in prison in an Israeli jail for shooting a man who was rioting in the toe wrong as it maybe. Especially considering the fact that a man who beat a toddler to death after forcing her to watch her father being shot and drowned was just recently released after spending only 29 years in Israeli jail.
23. com on everything is right in this photo
ben   (07.20.08)
the soldier admitted on firing rubber bullet on the prisinor toe and was arrested.
24. more cameras needed in Palestine
Iyad Haddad ,   Palestine   (07.20.08)
This incident shows that everyone in Palestine should have a video camera. It shows exactly what happens here and that the truth is the best weapon, not a gun. People should donate more cameras to the Palestine so that the truth of the occupation can be seen.
25. when there is missing video there will be questions
psalms83 ,   Selah   (07.20.08)
any video can be doctored by a compentant video expert to say something differant than what happened ... how ever if the IDF soldier did intentionaly harm the prisoner then certinly he needs to be disciplined. The video needs to be examined by by a video expert for possible tampering
26. Betselem
Daniel Ben-Hillel ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (07.20.08)
My friends, you are getting all the picture wrong. The problem is not if there was excessive violence or not, the problem is that Betslem should be banned from Israel, agitators who are foreign deported, and arabs nicely explained that if they use violence, they will receive violence. Please has nobody enough guts to throw this traitors out of the country?
27. #21, you're right, but..
YOEL ,   Raanana   (07.20.08)
it doesn't change anything to my opinion: we don't know what happened in the beginning, and we've got a one-sided story. I don't understand what are the motivations, and which kind of insults he heard, or if he was previously stoned... This soldier is recognizable, and he even doesn't wear a helmet in order to hide his face... I'm persuaded he knew somebody could make a picture of him. Just to say he did it in a sudden reaction, and not as a "calculated" action. I don't say he's not guilty. I say that the palestinian who was previously riotting is also guilty.
28. Despicable act!
Moshe ,   Tel Aviv   (07.20.08)
Some of the posts I am reading are absolutely despicable! Have you people lost your honor? Have you lost your sense of right and wrong? Is that the Israel that our founding fathers worked so hard to establish? Even Jew should be ashamed of this action. A mere apology wont suffice. A trial for those guilty should be the answer in order to begin the healing!
29. Moshe #28
Daniel Ben-Hillel ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (07.21.08)
Hi Moshe, I bet 2 month of my salary that you are part of BET;selem or similar, that you live in North Tel Aviv, that you are an intelectual and vote Meretz! Do I get the correct picture? Shame on you! Your loyalty should be first and before everything to the IDF, the only reason that you are sitting there is that this brave soldiers risk their life to defend you! Don't dare attack the IDF! Just the uniform is worth much more than a thousand ideas of yours!
30. #28, not ashamed for something I did not do...
yoel ,   Raanana   (07.21.08)
The problem is that I'm israeli. And that's it! I don't want any mix with my jewry, and carry this for my hole life... I don't have to accept beeing held responsible for anything any other jew does right or wrong. But, as a Jew, and knowing our soldiers are harassed and stoned all-day-long, I feel it's normal to be on their side and supporting them. They are placed in "hot positions", and prevent terrorists to come into Israel. This makes me feel secure, and allows me (also you) going to the sea-side, and swim whenever I wish... in my everyday's life. This soldier is THE exception, and most (99.99999%) of our army behaves with dignity and bravely. I don't want this SINGLE case be considered as something GENERAL, and lead to condemning the entire Tsahal. And even this soldier who hasn't been put on trial yet; he is till now considered as innocent. You don't think so? apply it also to Olmert and coll. and ask them to retire immediately...
