31. #1 Do you legitimize the law of the jungle?
s ,   Tel Aviv   (07.21.08)
While the Kuntar deal was a very bad one, it had to be done, however painful it was. This does not give legitimacy to soldiers to shoot at protestests. It was not even self-defense. We have not heard the soldier's side but it is not because the Pals do things that are illegitimate that this country has to behave like a banana republic. According to this video, there was no reason for that shooting and the soldier deserves punishment and the other soldiers that contributed. We, over here are defending the country of Israel claiming that it is fighting for its survival and then you see videos like that? The soldier was not attacked and there was no sign of agression on the side of the protestor.
32. This is how Israel gain hatred
s ,   Tel Aviv, israel   (07.21.08)
Yes, there are a lot of illegitimate and horrible things on their side and while this injury was minor, it was still illegitimate. This is how we gain our repuration, worse, people on this thead do not even think that the soldier should be held accountable. However, as I said earlier, we have not heard his side of the story. True, Pals are blowing themselves up, true they are doing horrible things, but that does not give us the right to act the way this soldier did. It was very clear that there was no threat here. Why did he do it?
33. The essential difference
Talk2thehand ,   London, UK   (07.21.08)
is that in Israel the wrong doer will be investigated and deal with and not treated and feed as a hero like Kuntar. If it was the other way around he would be considered a hero and more so the less able his victim. Such a shame b'teselem see things only one way and ignore all the video evidence of the attacks upon jews and the IDF and Police by such innocent attackers. Perhaps one day one of the video cameras they hand out to Palestinians will be used to film the death of B'teselem. At least we know who is a hero and who has done wrong..
34. I agree that this makes us look bad!
s ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.21.08)
So, how many events like these are happening that are not caught on tape?
35. Why Should You Care Meir? Are You Serious?
Johan Odin ,   Oslo, Norway   (07.21.08)
I hope you are just a drunken idiot and not really serious, but if you must be told, there is no excuse for shooting an unarmed, handcuffed and blindfolded in 1943 or today, and for you to dare to make such an argument only shows just how low your own ethical and moral standards have fallen. You are truly a despicable excuse for a human being if you actually believe the tripe you are trying to sell, and I hope that when the tides turn once again that you are the first in line when nobody cares.
36. #33. Two wrongs don't make a right!
s ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.21.08)
37. The highest standard
Arn ,   Oslo, Norway   (07.21.08)
I am expecting the highest ethical standard from an IDF soldier and officer. Justifying this crime by crimes done by arabs isn't such a standard. I hope the soldiers will get his deserved penalty, at least he will get his verdict by God.
38. Shooting innocents
Mohammad ,   Belfast, UK   (07.21.08)
This protester was lucky that he was not shot dead with live pollets. The soldier did it will most likely get promoted and be congratulated about what he has done. The protester may get some compensation money which would help his life for a while.
39. One insident of thousand still covered up
Jeff ,   Canada   (07.21.08)
Some of the Talk back here I will say the majority ,show how much the Jewish nation have sick minded and Nazi alike individual. The Jews should never have power om this earth and Zionism should be rooted out like Nazism and communism before. If the Palestinian controlled the media like the Jews do, we could have had a lot of similar action documented on public.
40. to number 14...why should you care?
Esther, anti-zionist ,   pro-human   (07.21.08)
They throw stones...You shoot missles, bulldoze their homes and shops...kill their families etc. Since when did rocks equate with a fully-armed millitary occupation? of corse they are going to hate you! You show them no respect they will show you no respect! Yes I forgot you zionist only like to whine and cry when its your own being killed. Then you convey such horror, when you see the arabs not sharing your grief. Well, what do expect? you seem not to value their lives at all compared to yours. your attitude is this: Oh Arab gets hurt or killed by idf...big deal, they had it comming! Jew killed or hurt by palestinian:...OH NO...those savages, monsters! Your the ones stopping the peace not them. all you do is make the extremists more popular infact :P
41. This fuss about a sore toe
SV, Sweden ,   we know the truth   (07.21.08)
the coverup fiasco works well, the 'humane" IDF antiriot making the grave mistake of stepping a a toe ... What about the smashed heads, mutilated bodies, puvarized whole families etc.
42. # 29 Ivan
Bill ,   US   (07.21.08)
Your response begs the question, why would someone from Argentina move to Israel if he believes in a "free Palestine"? I guess your work curing Argentina of its human rights ills is over.
43. #40
Common Sense ,   Anti-Stupidty   (07.21.08)
Arabs only throw stones? Don't lie now.
44. # 35
Thomas   (07.21.08)
The soldier was clearly wrong. Israel was right to arrest him and he should be given an appropriate sentence. That being said, I don't care about this guy and his toe for all the reasons Meir said and more. There's nothing unethical about that position. The guy who was shot was protesting Israel's security fence because he doesn't care about Israeli victims of Arab terror.
45. Thank you B'tselem
Cynic #2   (07.21.08)
46. His CO told him three times to do it
s ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.21.08)
So, how about arresting the Commander Officer and see why he ordered this. This smells really bad.
47. Esther
ahamed ahabal ,   arab world   (07.21.08)
omg....i have neber in my life read such a stupid posting...you are worthy of an award for stubid.
48. The injury is UNDER the toe!
Malia ,   Israel   (07.21.08)
How can a bullet hit UNDER the foot without injury to the TOP of the foot!?The soldier's not even aiming at the guy's foot. He seems to be pointing beyond the detainee, as if to ward off someone approaching.
49. Even if there was no injury,...
S   (07.21.08)
this looks plainly like a mock execution. I doubt this is an al-Dura like video, though a little part is missing. I doubt so, as if you look closely at the man in the white t-shirt there for sure is being shot and for sure the IDF soldier (who got arrested) did aim his gun near or onto the arrested and blindfolded person. It's good the soldier got arrested. Such behaviour should not be tolerated within the Israeli army - even at war times.
50. The point is not the nature of the injury
David L.   (07.21.08)
Forget about the fact that the injury was on the big toe. It does not make any difference. That stupid soldier could just have been so retarded that he would have missed even at such a close distance. That's not the point. The point is that we clearly see a soldier holding a bound Palestinian, and another aiming his weapon at his lower body, and firing with the clear intent of hitting him (but not injuring him seriously). Only because of that, the incident must be investigated. Also, it makes one wonder how often these things happen but are not caught on camera. In this particular case, and investigation was launched only after the video was released, even though there was at least 4 soldiers present at the scene. Finaly, you can raise all kinds of ridiculous doubts about what we see on the video, but the soldier himself admitted to the facts (but claimed that his commanding officer told him to do so).
51. #48, Malia
israeli ,   israel   (07.21.08)
Don't you know? It's our devious Zionist weapons. They hit when least expected, causing the most unexpected injuries.
52. probabilities
observer   (07.21.08)
if it is a single incident, not a general phenomenon, then why it was caught on the video? are the Palestinians keeping their cameras running, just in case? do Jews have no time to keep cameras running to prove the opposite?
53. Shame they live here
Ephraim ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.21.08)
This is just another bad side effect of our failure to transfer the Arabs to their native homeland of the Arabian Peninsula. unfortunately, we have to dominate them the same way that the other 22 arab governments dominate their people. As Golda Meir said, "I can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. I can not forgive them for turning our children into killers."
54. #44 Thomas
(07.22.08)
You forget that the fence, which has been ruled completely illegal by the international courts, is being built upon occupied Palestinian land and not in Israel where it belongs, so they have a legitimate and legal right to protest the theft of their land by Israel, but if you are so concerned about the safety of Israeli settlers, simply remove the settlers from occupied Palestinian land and return them to Israel where they belong, and then you can build a wall as high as you want along Israel's true border to keep them safe. Get it now Thomas? BTW, the victim who was shot must not have committed much of a crime as the IDF thugs released him after shooting him.
