Brown spoke in Bethlehem of the need to build industrial parks as well as offer more jobs, better housing and improved mortgage opportunities for Palestinians. Abbas, who repeated his commitment to the talks with Israel, called for easing of Israeli travel restrictions that he said were an obstacle for economic development. He added that Israel must stop construction of settlements in the West Bank and in east Jerusalem. Palestinians seek the eastern sector of the city as the capital of their state. Israel, which captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day war and then extended Israeli law over the area, sees it as part of its eternal capital. `Overcome the Disagreements' ``I believe we can overcome the disagreements within the framework set, hopefully by the end of this year,'' Olmert said of the talks with Abbas after meeting with Brown at his Jerusalem residence. He and Brown also spoke of ways to boost bilateral ties and agreed to establish a research and academic exchange program that will award grants in ``exact and social sciences.'' Brown, speaking earlier in Ramallah, called on Israel to halt the construction of new settlements. ``Settlement expansion has made peace harder to achieve,'' Brown said. ``It erodes trust. It heightens Palestinian suffering. It makes the compromises Israel will need to make for peace more difficult,'' he said. We are seriously and genuinely interested in building up'' the Palestinian economy, Olmert said after meeting with British and Israeli businessmen alongside Brown. ``We genuinely believe that economic steps should be taken alongside the political efforts which we are making in order to bring forth the peace process.'' Brown said that half of the new money pledged will go toward boosting the Palestinian state budget and promised to hold an investment conference in London to help raise money.

A lasting peace deal with the Palestinians is within Israel's grasp if it withdraws from West Bank settlements, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown told the Israeli parliament on Monday. A day after talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, Brown spelled out his "honest analysis", in the first address to the Israeli parliament by a British premier in the 60-year history of the Jewish state. "Today there is one historic challenge you still have to resolve so that your 60-year journey into the future is complete: peace with your neighbours and throughout the region," Brown told the parliament in Jerusalem. To deliver such a deal, "it is vital also that both sides now create the conditions for a final agreement," Brown said. The Palestinians need to act "with persistence and perseverance" against terrorists and it would require "Israel freezing, and withdrawing from, settlements and like many of your friends, I urge you to make these decisions." That comment drew a shout from one person in the chamber that did not disrupt Brown as he went on to reiterate his "economic roadmap" for a peace deal. Brown held talks on Sunday in Jerusalem, with Israeli President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, plus with their Palestinian counterparts Mahmud Abbas and Salam Fayyad in the West Bank town of Bethlehem. "As a constant friend of Israel, I want to offer the comfort of my support and the support of the British government -- and also my honest analysis," Brown told lawmakers. "I believe that a historic, hard-won and lasting peace that can bring security on the ground is within your grasp... I urge you to take it by the hand," said the prime minister. Brown said the fundamentals were "a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders." This would entail "a democratic Israel, secure from attack, recognised by and at peace with all its neighbours alongside a peaceful, democratic and territorially viable state of Palestine that accepts you as its friend and partner." Jerusalem would be the "capital for both," and there would be a "just and agreed settlement for refugees," said Brown, making his first visit to Israel and the West Bank since becoming prime minister in June 2007. The outline he gave dovetailed closely with the internationally drafted roadmap for peace drafted in 2003. Last November, Israel and the Palestinians resumed peace talks after a seven-year hiatus, agreeing to use the roadmap as a guide for their negotiations.
6. The Vicious JIHAD Against Britain's Innocent Children
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (07.21.08)
From other British articles and comments, it appears not offending Britain's large Muslim population is far more important than protecting innocent British children. thisislondon.co.uk British girls as young as 14 are being trafficked for sex within the UK 03.07.08 British girls as young as 12 are being forced into prostitution by migrants in a new crime of 'internal' people trafficking. Children from ordinary families are groomed by older men posing as boyfriends before being pimped around the UK to have sex up to 20 times a night. They are raped and often drugged, according to police. Officers have identified 'syndicates of Iraqi men throughout the UK' behind the exploitation... A UK Human Trafficking Centre intelligence report says girls as young as 12 are taken from town to town and controlled with threats and assault. In one operation, 32 victims were identified in the Sheffield area alone. All were aged 12 to 15 and had been raped. In another study, police say girls 'are given to a life of exploitation, waking up in anonymous towns, unable to contact family and with no way out'. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23506546-details/British+girls+as+young+as+14+are+being+trafficked+for+sex+within+the+UK/article.do An authoritative Muslim stated: "Thanks to your democratic laws we will invade you; thanks to our religious laws we will dominate you." http://www.meforum.org/article/448 Violent Muslim Protest Outside the Danish Embassy in London (February 3, 2006) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoMeUcC_M20 Protesting Rapid Islamization of Europe - Peaceful demonstrators attacked by Brussels police http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR-J8cXYVIo&feature=related ’“One day, millions of men will leave the Southern Hemisphere to go to the Northern Hemisphere. Talula ,   Israel   (07.21.08)
Mr. Brown has pledged 30 million pounds of UK tax money for the PA. What does he honestly think they are going to do with their new found wealth? Build an infrastructure? Improve hospitals? Help the starving? Build their own electricity generators? How sweet. The fact is, that 30 million will go towards, guns, launching pads, rockets and a comprehensive arsenal of weapons. And guess what, they won't be fired into Blighty - they are headed straight for us. The man is a complete waste of time - ask the Brits,

Everytime the Palestiniasn try to build an infrastructiure you bomb it. Or you build a wall around it. Or a segregated road. Or a roadblock so that Palestinians can't move around their broken up piece of territory. Or you close the border so that they can't trade or move. Or you build an illegal settlement on Palestinian land. It's a wonder they achieve anything under such circumstances. If, IF, they could spend 30 million on weapons then why are they using home made fireworks and stones against the weapons and bulldosers that the US gives Isreal? If the fight was equal, would Isreal win?
12. We have unquestionable rights on the Land of Israel.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (07.21.08)
The Jews have the right to build and live freely in their country. We have modern political rights dating back to the First World War: "After World War I, the borders and countries that today make up the Middle East were created - Iran, Iraq, Syria, etc. Modern Israel was created the same way! The countries of the world charged Britain [in the San Remo Resolution of 1920, based on the League of Nations and Balfour Declaration] with creating a 'national homeland' for the Jewish People, based on the 'historical rights' of the Jews, and calling for Jewish immigration and settlement here. Only a quarter of the land, including Hevron and Shechem, originally designated for the Jews by the League of Nations, was left for us. The historical and political truth about rights and legitimity can be read in its 5 parts at : http://xrl.us/bi5c6

And yes I know that you will once again rant and rave when you read that I live in the Golan. Its funny that you claim that Israel is occupying the Golan and the Druze people yet when I ask my Druze neighbours if they want the Golan to stay Israeli or be given to Syria they will say without any hesitation that they prefer the Israel. They also tell me that if Israel is foolish enough to give away the Golan then they will move to the Druze villages on Mount Carmel in Israel.

15. #10 "if the fight was equal"
Tahl ,   Israel   (07.21.08)
If the fight was equal, then Israelis would strap explosive belts around their waste, and detonate themselves in Palestinian markets, buses, and restaurants. If the fight was equal, the IDF would fire rockets indiscriminantly into Bet Hanoun. If the fight was equal, the IDF would conduct its operations from inside schools and hospitals. If the fight was equal, peace-loving or Palestinian-sympathizing Israelis, like Uri Avneri, Tali Fahima, or Shulamit Aloni - would be lynched. There would be no leftist, so-called-voice-of-peace in Israel. Only voices of extreme hate and incitement. If the fight was equal, there would be hardly any orders of restraint on Israel, from the US and Europe. Actually, some time ago, the fight was not equal, but to the other side - the Arabs had the advantage. And yet, despite the extremely inauspicious odds, Israel managed to triumph. In the days prior to the six-days-war, hardly anyone gave Israel a chance, and we all know what happened next. An even better example of an uneven fight for Israel, was the Independence war. The Jews in young Israel were vastly outnumbered and out-weaponed by the Arabs, and had no America behind them. It was do-or-die, and they came through. This should put your "if the fight was equal" argument to rest. As for bombing Palestinian infrastructure - After the Disengagement, Israel would not have dropped a single bomb on Gaza, or hadn't sealed its borders, had the Palis didn't reward this Disengagement, by firing thousands of Kassams at Sderot. All they had to do was stay peaceful and quiet over there, after they got their territories - and there would have been peace. But apparently, the Disengagement was interpreted as weakness. Hardly surprising, given violence is so ingrained in them. By the way, did Israel also bomb the greenhouses and the synagogue they left for the Palis to take care of?

17. actions speak louder than words
tom ,   toronto, canada   (07.21.08)
the balfour declaration was in 1917, but the british partition of 1923 set aside 78% of "palestine" for arabs-only. (jordan still has a death penalty for anyone selling land to a jew!) and up to their withdrawal in 1947, the british blockaded jewish immigration and arms, and did everything possible to help the arabs destroy israel, including training, equipment and handing over their key fortifications to the arab armies. since then, they have also "helped" israel with arms embargoes and academic boycotts, and volunteer organizations who throw lovely farewell parties for suicide terrorists. and lest we forget, the bbc, with its free-form translations of arab propaganda broadcasts. if all of israel were deaf and dumb, they might take his "we come in peace" speech seriously....
18. Everything is relative
Jonathan and Mollie ,   Pennsylvania   (07.22.08)
In comparison to most Brits, especially those who are considered elitist, Blair and Brown are friendly to Israel. Blair especially has worked against leftist condemnations of Israel and seems to be a somewhat fair man. The verdict is still not in for Brown---especially since he demanded the end of settlement construction on the part of Israel but did not demand that the Palestinians use all their power to stop terrorism and hate speech against Jews. Unfortunately, neither man really wants to understand the situation that Israel faces today. Blair and Brown call for a 2 state solution and Israeli evacuation of the territories. Yet when Israel evacuated Gaza, Hamas took over and there has been constant rocket fire against Israel. Likewise, when Israel allowed the Palestinian authority to control most West Bank areas, terrorism became so in tolerable that Israel had to reconquer these areas. Both Blair and Brown won't acknowledge that the Palestinians would rather continue to live in squalor and poverty and kill Jews rather than becoming prosperous and peaceful in their own state next to a Jewish Israel.
