1. occupier / oppressor
Richard ,   London UK   (07.21.08)
Rank: Staff sergeant Unit: Egoz; Golani Infantry Brigade Place of incident: Ramallah Description: Defensive Shield Operation, April 2002. “Our unit took a copying machine from Ramallah. We had a copying machine that belonged to the PA which we took from the Mukata’a during Operation “Defence Shield” and in my opinion it is still in use in our unit. I did not encounter any further incidents of looting, but stories went around. There were many stories regarding [looting of] mini-disks, money and what have you”.
2. just another 'little incident' of oppression
Richard ,   London UK   (07.21.08)
Rank: First sergeant Place of incident: Ramallah Description: The platoon took hold of a ten- story building. The force went through all the apartments, moved all the families to the first floor and “cleared” the apartments. After we broke in to all the apartments, another soldier and I walked into an apartment and saw a pile of expensive electronic equipment. While searching through the equipment, I found a microphone, liked it, and took it home
3. occupier / oppressor
Richard ,   London UK   (07.21.08)
Rank: first sergeant Unit: Shimshon Battalion Place of incident: South Mount Hebron Description: Look, I want to tell you about something that shocked and I was part of. At that intersection after we were in combat for two three days, the Battalion commander said to me to take the snipers and take control of a house and to start shooting. So we move towards that direction and the Commander is running behind us and we knock on the door and a woman opens it for us. It's a nice house, clean, young woman... now try to explain to her that you need to go upstairs and shoot from her house, it is impossible and while there is shooting going on... two minutes into the whole thing she starts crying hysterically and another soldier and me are trying to explain to her... the Battalion commander comes and says, look I don't have time for this whole diplomacy thing and just barges into the house followed by us and the woman. The commander scream, "don't wreck the house", I remember that because when you go into the house with all your gear you feel like an elephant in a china shop. We go up the stairs and open the door... there is a five year old kid looking at me and peeing in his pants, just peeing. You know, imagine that you are a five year old kid and a Palestinian soldier barges in and stands on top of you. I didn't think about it at the time, I just went upstairs. Since my discharge, I have been thinking a lot about that kid and that is the whole story... that is what is there and what I did there
4. bunch of rabbish!
oded   (07.21.08)
any civil disobedience that gets out of hand deserves a frim hand response... and richard, the brithsh forces in mandate palestine, now know as the land of israel, looted, beat, attacked and maimed many of the israli- jews at the time... you have room to talk.....
5. Youtube
Shlomo The Homo ,   Tel Aviv   (07.21.08)
The video is all over youtube and millions of peopel will see it or already seen it. Not a good image of the IDF
6. Outrageous behaviour
Aharon Ofek ,   Tel Aviv   (07.21.08)
It is not a surprising behaviou. This seems to be the norm in the territories. While doing my services I was asked ,on the daily basis, to do what this soldier this by higher commanders. The occupation is highly coirrupted but none in Israel seems to be to bother, unless caught by camera. I only wish more and more of these videos come up to show the reality of what the soldier are doing and getting away with

Nick ,   Sweden   (07.21.08)
A 6 year old quotation without source, describing a private assumption and "stories that went around". How does this add up to "occupier/oppressor" conclusion? What is the relevance to the present article? How pathetic can Israel-hatred get in the hands of Dick from UK? If you care to debate the incident at hand: Since the barrier came up, the no of suicide massakers in Israel came close to zero. IDF soldiers are stoned by rioters for weeks and are only allowed to respond with rubber bullets. Which they did in very few cases. The guy was hit in a toe - boohoo. Have you ever tried to hit a toe with a rubber bullet from a rifle, no matter how close? My own "assumption" is that he was supposed to shoot the dirt near the guy's foot and "missed". The guy got treated by an IDF medic and apparently walked out of there on his own two feet. End of story, Dick ...
9. This is rubbish. Nothing proven.
Millie ,   Israel   (07.21.08)
The latest so-called shooting of a detainee is a doctored video where a soldier shoots a rubber bullet low and straight ahead. The detainee's injury is UNDER the big toe of the left foot (which is on the RIGHT side of the foot). How can a bullet in flight veer to the right under the detainee's foot? The detainee behaves like he stepped on something sharp. He most certainly wasn't shot. Barak should not condemn a soldier before he has proof.
10. War corrupts. Not necessarily occupation.
S   (07.21.08)
11. It is always the case, occupation ruins your moral values
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (07.21.08)
This only scratches the surface of the human right abuse carried out by the IDF. This type of behavior damages any moral values the soldiers has which will also be reflected in his civilian life once release from IDF service. Regardless of their hatread to palestinians, Israelis should speak loud against such acts in order to preserve a civil society..
12. Hey Palestinians: quit whining!!!
Dan ,   USA   (07.21.08)
You want war, you got it. Don't come crying to me that somebody shot at you. You have made your bed so now lie in it.
13. i have no sympathy for this guy's big toe
david ,   new york   (07.21.08)
so he's got a briused toe. please see this link for the same day: http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3571216,00.html
14. shamless degredation of human behaviour.
Juan ,   Colombia   (07.21.08)
The incident and the obvious crime of a soldier shooting at a defenseless prisoner is shocking. But what makes it worse were this sites comments by ordinary israeli citizens that were full of denial where everything is obvious, even applause. Or even worse the kind of ubermensch jokes that were directed at the victim. Blaming the victim, doesn´t that sound familiar to some of you?? Decades of occupation apparently corrupted the moral soul of israel. You may try to fool yourself into thinking, that Palestinians deserve no better than treatment as "subhumans". However, the world is watching you. Deeds like this and the silent fascist applause of some posters made a lot of friends of israel wonder about whats going wrong with your society, your values, your humanity..
15. Try this before you judge:
Michael ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.21.08)
Try this simple test before making any comments: Stop the video at the shot. Take a ruler or a straight edge and align it with the barrel of the rifle. Unless I'm seriously mistaken, the bullet would have to veer almost half a meter to the left over a distance of two meters to hit Mr. Abu Rahama. Does anybody know of such a weapon?
16. Another disgusting action by so-called IDF!
Palestinian   (07.21.08)
17. Thank you Richard, #1 2 3
Natan ,   USA   (07.21.08)
I am going to cancel all my newspaper subscriptions and start reading your "news clips" wow amazing. Where do you get your stories from?? Great imagination on your part. Now, here is my news clip to you: Wednesday July 16th 2008, Hizbollah delivers 2 black coffins containing the bodies of 2 Israeli soildiers to the IDF. For 2 years this organization terrorized 2 families daily by refusing to disclose the fate of their loved ones as well as refusing visitations from the Red Cross and others who seeked to find out their fate. Now, Richard, this story IS substantiated unlike your fantasy style "clipping"
18. # 11
Natan ,   USA   (07.21.08)
Regardless of their hatread to palestinians, Israelis should speak loud against such acts in order to preserve a civil society.. Just like the Arabs speak out against bus explosions, drive by shotings, qassam rockets and on and on...Cut me a break!!!
19. Then the State wonders why there are so many draft-dodgers
Miriam ,   Israel   (07.21.08)
Could you blame the soldiers when they're doing the job of eliminating the terrorists properly instead of allowing them to become fodder for the next "goodwill gesture"?
20. # 15 We're Past Denying This Happened
Bill ,   US   (07.21.08)
after the people involved confessed to doing it.
21. Ynet Why did you remove the report where an Israeli was hurt
Miriam ,   Israel   (07.21.08)
by Arab settlers? Are such reports against your policy? Why? Is it because it's too common and can easily fill up your site daily?
22. #11 - Rami, the only people occupying the West Bank...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (07.21.08)
The only people occupying the West Bank and Gaza are these so-called "Palestinians". These two regions are considered Terra Nullus according to international law and a nation with de facto jurisdiction over Terra Nullus is not considered to be occupying it. As you said, Rami, "occupation ruins your moral values". Look how the 1400-year long Arab occupation of our Holy Land has caused you to blatantly lie in front of the whole world!! If you're in favor of "ending the occupation", I suggest you pack your bags and head for Jordan...
23. not acceptable
gerhard ,   Munich, Germany   (07.21.08)
Such a troop's behaviour cannot be accepted, no way. It's hamas-style, not Israeli standard. The IDF officers have failed.
24. incidents and patterns
Ben ,   London UK   (07.21.08)
The pattern such Naalin incidents tries to establish "an opressive but hardly lethal occupation" the true pattern of child killing, malignat and lethal power is known to all but the naive. If you go and 'riot' in Naalin, you will be allowed back in the country time and again, but try to cover some serious incidents and see what happens in BG airport on reception.
25. "...over a distance of two meters.." [Michael]
Law and Order   (07.21.08)
2m, at least you got that one right: Soldiers are not permiited to fire rubber bullets at demonstrators from a distance of less than 10m as this could be lethal.
26. #13: Fact is, Israel shot herself in the foot
MediaWatch   (07.21.08)
No Sympathy?
27. shame! ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN
VERY SAD   (07.21.08)

28. dealing with terrorists has its downside
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (07.21.08)
but like the guy's foot, why must anyone get out the microscope when it comes to israel when you have TERRORISTS (you know, TERRORISTS!) breathing down your neck wanting to kill you and everyone who is not a perverted terrorist like them?? hello?
29. Question for the Arab Press
Lou ,   Deal, USA   (07.21.08)
I was wondering which Hizbollah terrorists were arrested for the cold blooded killing our two soldiers? I don't recall reading anything about that in the press 2 years ago
