For starters Obama will win by a landslide in November. It could be the largest ever. You can say all you want about him but he will win by a huge huge margin. I find it really baffling why all of these talkbacks are so extreme, so viscious and some down right racist ( re comments about Hussein ) about a man who even in The States, the republican party his oponnents respect. Obama's background is cosmopolitan a great deal more than most Americans, his intelligence and oratory quite superb, he is clearly not a person who makes rash decisions but has a very logical approach.He is not tied up in years of favours and obligations to all & sundry, he is a fresh breath of air. A weak and badly damaged Hamas made clear from the start they would use this quiet to smuggle in more weapons, they are using the oportunity to set all kinds of booby traps in Gaza so if the millitary operation promised by both Olmert & Barak so many time in the past were to take place now it would cost the lives of many more soilders. Olmert & Barak knew from the start this is how it was going to end. I didnt want to have to be the one to tell you this but the fact is if Iran attacks Israel using either conventional or non conventional weapons palestians will be the ones who will siuffer the most caslutlies. The Iranian rockets are not laser guided smart bombs they will hit palestian inhabited areas just same as they would hit Israel. in 1991 half of the scuds Saddam Hussain fired at Israel landed in Jordan. Unlike the palestians all Israeli homes are equiped with bomb shelters to go to if an enemy should decide to start dropping bombs. Where will palestians go to hide if they dont have bomb shelters like Israelis do. If Iran used WMDS then besides having the bomb shelter Israelis are also given protection kits so we will have gas masks you will be wrapping your keffiehs around your face. You will also find that in the event of an Iranian attack all Israeli medical facilities would be given over for treatment of Israelis there wont be any special gestures in the name of the peace process alocating a certain amount of hospital space to be used treating palestian casulties. While it is true that the purpose of his trip is to shore up his political campaign, I respect the fact that he risked it to go to Sderot and to meet with the people there.Not overyone is going to do that. I also respect that he went to Yad Vashem, donned a Kippah and publicly made a tribute to those who perished during the Shoah. I don't have an issue with the wreath-that's really his custom and his way of making the tribute. Let's be clear on something. No politician really does exactly what he/she promises during an election campaign. I don't expect for Obama to be any different. Also, should he or someone else be elected President, either may act very differently once in office. There's just something about the White House that changes those who serve their country in it.
