1. this is it
fish ,   t-a   (07.23.08)
everyone sees that our current government is absolutely impotent, while the solutions are so obvious to even a non-expert in security matters. Don't we need a police station in East Jerusalem area if it is under our sovereignity? Don't we need to act decisively against anti-Israel propaganda? What's wrong with us? I also believe that Israelis are much to blanme - for the last 10 years we elect the same failed leaders, and we don't have new leaders because nobody really wants to go into politics, all young bright minds rather prefer business or emigration, that's why our knesset is full of pathetic politicians.
2. Bravo!!!
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (07.23.08)
I agree with you 200%!!! It is Olmert and his bunch who are dangerous, not so much the arabs!!! We need a strong and proud government now, busy with getting things working and not with defendeing themselves from going to jale or in other cases losing primaries!!!
3. The "Continuation" of infitada (and infanticide)!
marlene ,   Philadelphia USA   (07.23.08)
"New" it is NOT. "Neverending" - and I mean NEVER - is the operative word here. Every Israeli Jew should read Revelation - NOW! Maranatha!
4. numb Israelis
Sigfried S. Kuhn ,   Aberdeen   (07.23.08)
I don't blame Israelis who are desparate for peace. For 60 years, the people of Israel have endured nothing but hostility, violent terrorism and inhuman cruelty by the Palestinians and other Muslim countries. In addition, the West has not been able to get over their deeply ingrained hatred of Jews and have deliberately made every effort to demonize Israel and take away Israel's right even of self-defense. The academic elite has demanded the divestment of all holdings in Isfrel. The mainline churches such as the Presbyterians and the Methodists have also called for horrific punishment against Israel and seem to be unable to get past their Jew hatred in seeing that the Palestinians bear responsibility for the state that they are living in. Unfortunately this constant physical and emotional violence against Israel and Israelis has caused many Israelis to become detached from reality and so desparate to be accepted, they have ignored all factual evidence and have been willing to appease the Arabs over and over again without seeing any beneficial result. As a result of this mind-numbing terrorism against them, Israelis have elected profane , incompetent, selfish, and defeatist leaders who are more interested in the personal trapings of power rather than in the welfare of Israel. When Olmert announced that he was tired of winning, he should have been drummed out of politics. Instead, he was promoted to assistant PM and became PM upon Sharon's illness. The Israeli people should have realized the depth of Olmert's cynicism and thirst for power when he appointed Peretz to the most important cabinet position-the defense minister. The Israeli people should have realized the change in Labor since the glory days of the founder when an inexperienced labor leader took on the vital defense ministry as a way of gaining more power for himself and for his political allies. The tragic results of the 2006 war are wellknown and even the flawed Winograd commission's denunciation of the incompetent management of the war did not rally the Israeli people to overthrow this band of thieves and incompetents. The question is whether Israel can recover from this malaise and deal effectively with the horrific threats facing it.
5. When is there going to be a Jewish Intifada?
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.23.08)
6. Weakness
Asher ,   Jerusalem   (07.23.08)
Blah Blah Blah. Everybody with opinions, But one thing is for sure & hasn't changed. YOU PEOPLE. The Great recyclers of trash. You vote for the same trash every election. What happens here in Israel reminds me of "the boy who always cried Wolf". Cry Cry Cry,. You all deserve it. But it can all change. Are you willing to make that change. Nah, I don't think so. You people supply the glue that keeps MKs glued to their chairs. There is a saying that G-d protects FOOLS. I guess not all Fools are equal.
7. Enforce the law !
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (07.23.08)
Israel should have a coherent policy regarding the deteriorating situation in Israeli-Arab society. Israel should revoke the citizenship of terrorists and their family members and prohibit the families of dead terrorists from publicly celebrating their actions. Israel should take positive steps to reverse the trends toward radicalization of Israeli Arab society and pass regulations barring anti-Zionist propaganda in public school curricula and sanctioning the immediate firing of public school teachers who teach students to hate Israel. 8. TALKING TO DEAF EARS
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (07.23.08)
I do not know if Alex Fishman reads the TB's that have been written by many people for years here on this website. Then he should know that this state has been high jacked and the system is run by corruption and incompetence. People in the street have known for years how weak our ruling elite is, yet they hold all the positions of power in the media, commerce, courts and other key positions. These same people are blinded by greed and drunk on power. Nothing has been learned ,worse yet, they have regressed in a stupor that borders on a coma induced by madness. This is not being naive, but it is criminal negligence, for which there is no accountability nor responsibility. This is a lawless society for the ones that are connected through nepotism and favoritism. Only a miracle will save us from an inpending disaster.
9. Olmert is a cool dude
Gerry ,   Boston   (07.23.08)
I thought that Barak already made enough money during Clintons time and he can spend some time doing the job. Now, the next superwoman and Mossad "agent" (she never worked for Massad except in her dream) wonts the job. You can learn the stuff on the job. Barak did not learn anything in 2 years and for Livni it may take 20 years.
10. israei arab radicalization
alexi   (07.23.08)
Fishman is right on. Arabs in israel are more aggressive because of foreign and islamic influence and Olmert's weakness. They always understood israel's heavy hand would knock the hell out of them and or export them. As well, they love israel's benefits, the hypocrites that they are. In bed with olmert with his extreme cowardice polices are ramon, livni, hasson and Mazzuz. Laws for treason or internal rebellioin should be the loss of citizenship and execution. This should apply to Bishara if he is found guilty of assisting hezbollah. Mazzuzz will not indict Olmert on envelopes, and might not on double billing. he reminds me of Belin. Good for a university course, but useless in practise, like the winograd. they should return the money they were paid for giving Olmert a ticket out jail. Dror in particular intimating about netanyahu was a disgraceful admission, because netanyahu had nothing to do with the terms of reference. Dror was intellectually dishonest and the others were picked by olmert to give him a way out of his predicament.
11. weak mind weak government
MC ,   UK   (07.23.08)
It's obvious we have a 'weak mind' and a 'weak government' to say the least. the question is what are we going to do about both?
12. signs of new intifada
solomon ,   london England   (07.23.08)
Do not write inviting evil or mischief please. The press harm by writing weakness. Israeli government will act as tough as necessary. The times now do not compare to those at earlier episodes.
13. Dear world...
Johnny ,   Stockholm Sweden   (07.23.08)
Maybe he was right after all.
14. We need a stronger political and military leadership
Moshe   (07.23.08)
15. Jerusalem terror
Bachrach Andres ,   Kfarsaba il.   (07.23.08)
The best way to punish arab terrorist to make them pay for the damage they make to people and their properties. They are more sensible about their pockets then their life. Andi mihakfar
16. #3 - marlene, "Revelation" is about as prophetic as...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (07.23.08)
"Revelation" is about as prophetic as a bad acid trip put down on paper. Every Christian should read Sefer haKuzari by R. Yehuda haLevi.
17. What do you expect?
observor ,   USA   (07.23.08)
do u just plan to occupy the entire middle east? place the IDF at every street corner and build a wall around every neighborhood? when will the jews realize that their occupation and extesive military force is the main cause for anti-semitism and jihad? probably never, which means you will have to fight and occupy forever, to your own demise. History has taught us the occupation ALWAYS fails and resistance will never go away. Israel should rethink it's policis if it ever wants peace, which it doesn't.
18. this is not a police matter, this is matter 4 professionals
Alan ,   SA   (07.24.08)
19.  3rd INTIFADA?
Poppy Bison ,   Foresthill CA USofA   (07.24.08)
NOTHING is spontaneous with those bulldozer drivers or assassins. Where is the Israel that was FEARED? I live in the USof A, which seems like the world's doormat/garbage can. Obama is over in the Middle East talking out of both sides of his mouth if he has a teleprompter (or unable to form a sentence if he doesn't). ISRAEL, GOD anointed you the CHOSEN LAND. HE said nothing about Palestinians (whatever they are) or Arabs. ISRAEL, BRING BACK THOSE DAYS OF AWE! GOD BLESS YOU ETERNALLY.
20. Observor
Yaron ,   USA   (07.24.08)
You should be observed in psyciatric ward. What about the conflict do you not understand? Is it that the Pals have repeatedly responded with belligerence to any offer of reconciliation and measures of conflict resolution? How do you not see this conflict for what it is? There is one side that has been prepared, and is prepared, for a genuine peace while the other side has too much of a stake in the continuation of the conflict ...so much so that its resolution has become in some manner an oxymoronic dilemna.
21. IS it really crazy?
mani ,   palestine, texas   (07.24.08)
No. The bulldozer attack is much less crazier than needing a permit from Jerusalem city hall to paint my house - this what happens to Palestinians in East Jerusalem. Treat them like pigs and then wonder at why they use bulldozers to attack you.
22. The vicious cycle of stupidity
Pontius Pilate ,   Apollonia   (07.24.08)
It's funny that in Israel these days the only solution that pundits can think of to suppress insurrection against occupation is more occupation. Could you imagine the British saying after King David terrorist attack, "What we need lads are more troops in that city. We also need to forcibly deport the familys of the terrorists to Poland, demolish their homes, and seize their assets."? Britain luckily avoided that sort of fascist shame although I am sure they thought it and much worse besides.
23. #22, Your comparison is spurious
Jake   (07.25.08)
I do wonder how is it that you write such drivel with such confidence. I doubt you even believe it yourself. The King David Hotel bombing was not an attack on the British homeland and the British people, but on the British mandate headquarters. The Palestinian bulldozer attacks were in the heart of Israel's capital against defenseless Israeli civilians, not to mention the fact that the Israeli authorities took no concrete punitive actions because the Palestinians in question happened to have blue ID cards. What would you have Israel do? Evacuate a settlement every time a terror attack occurs? Isn't that what created Hamas' power in the Gaza Strip? Would you like to see that repeated in Jerusalem? As it so happens, the British had no stomach after the end of WW2 to fight Jewish insurrectionists over a Mandate that they did not even want to be tasked with, and did not even regard as a colony. So they settled for the next best thing, a boycott of the Yishuv, as explained by the British army commander, General Sir Evelyn Barker at the time: "all Jewish places of entertainment, cafes, restaurants, shops and private dwellings" are "out of bounds to all ranks". He concluded: "I appreciate that these measures will inflict some hardship on the troops, but I am certain that if my reasons are fully explained to them, they will understand their propriety and they will be punishing the Jews in the way the race dislikes as much as any by striking at their pockets and showing our contempt for them." Britain also sent "illegal" Jewish immigrants from Mandate Palestine to Cyprus at Jewish taxpayer expense, as a punitive measure, totally contrary to your statements. You also "forgot" the terror attacks carried out on the Yishuv with the assistance of British army deserters: Using car bombs aimed at the headquarters of the pro-Zionist Jerusalem Post, the Ben Yehuda St. market and the backyard of the Jewish Agency's offices, they killed 22, 53 and 13 Jewish people respectively, and injured hundreds. You may say these were underground dissidents, but so were the Irgun. If the insurrectionists launched attacks in a part of the British homeland, like Northern Ireland, you can be sure the British response would be astronomically greater, as I am sure you aware Britain did in retaliation against the IRA's attacks.
24. To observor (sic) from USA , #17
Jake   (07.25.08)
"do u just plan to occupy the entire middle east?" This I think should be a question for you. Neither Israel or nor any territory it allegedly "occupies" can be seen on a world map. You said "Israel's occupation" is the main cause for Jihad. So, what was the cause of the Jihad that launched an occupation from Morocco to the gates of China in 60 years, by the might of the sword?
25. #17 Occupation always fails?
OBJECTIVE Observer   (07.25.08)
Have you taken a look at your country recently? Do you see many native Americans running for President or Congress? No? Perhaps there are signs of a plan to initiate a policy of "resistence" against you? No? Hmmmm... Weird... How about in Australia? Nope? Weird... How about the Roman occupation of Israel? You call the land Palestine, do you not? That should be an indication to you of how successful the Roman occupation was! How about the Albanian occupation of Serbia? Did that fail, or did they recently proclaim their independence? Sorry but you're wrong. Occupation can work.
