31. HARBORING TERRORISTS
Stevo ,   Tel Aviv   (07.24.08)
AT LAST, SOME CLARITY. LEBANON IS HARBORING TERRORISTS, AND AGAIN LEBANON WILL PAY THE PRICE.
32. First we have to get rid of Olmert and Barak ...
redmike ,   Tel Aviv   (07.24.08)
33. fighting terrorism
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (07.24.08)
The Lebanon War,occupation of Iraq Afghanistan and Palestine proved that you cannot fight terrorism with conventional means the enemy is the states and In truth all the Muslims are enemies of the state of Israel and world civilisation and therefore they need to be confronted as called for in the CHILDERS DOCTRINE
34. Recipe to Win a War
Walid   (07.25.08)
I was brought up in an age when we looked at Israel as an invicible ally and IDF as the army that brought Egypt and Syria to their knees in 6 days. Now when I hear Ret. Gen Giora Eiland expecting the next confrontation with Hi ZEB to end with a draw, unless Lebanon is destroyed, i am disappointed. It's the same failure mentality that advises to stay within Citadel Israel and bomb Lebanon till it gives up. Dear General you will lose because you have no more guts to venture outside your boundaries and take the war to your enemy's backyard. unless you wanna shed blood and sweat you'll never be able to win a war and eventually your enemies will take it in to your own front yard. I am no military but I believe if you wanna win you should be hit first. Israel should send 200k troops into Lebanon destroy Hizb sanctuaries and make use of their enemies and they are many
35. Hezbollah rules Lebanon.
daat y ,   jerusalem   (07.25.08)
EXCELLENT ARTICLE.Right to the point.I would add that in fact Hezbollah rules Lebanon now. They have veto power over every decision and the 'lebanese army' will not start with them and in effect Hezbollah also controls the army. The message that all of Lebanon will be destroyed must be publicly stated by our government. immediately.
36. Lebanon is Hezbollah
daat y ,   jerusalem   (07.25.08)
Excellent, incisive article.I would add that Hezbollah also has now veto power over Lebanon. The Lebanon army also is really controlled by Hezbollah. Our government must publicly announce that all of Lebanon will be responsible.
37. No wonder why Israel lost war if such thinker make policy
Aaron Rabinovich ,   Canada   (07.25.08)
This looser tactic didn't help you before in 2006 and won't help next time either. This is something already being tried Mr.Major-General ,this sound not military professional and slam the army moral to ground. So what are suggesting can be interpretated ,If we cannot defeat Hizbollah in direct combat lets go and destroy the innocent civiliant infrastructure to creat deterrent? Is that what end up the strongest Army in the Middle East doing ,taking revange from power station and bridges and TV station . That doesn't sound fulfill the Jewish ago Mr.Head of National Security Councel.
38. the real enemy,is the traitor masquerading as PM
CHAIM SCHONBRUN ,   BROOKLYN NY   (07.25.08)
39. the real enemy sits in the knesset making believe he is PM
CHAIM SCHONBRUN ,   brooklyn ny   (07.25.08)
40. Hizbullah, Lebanon Christians, Sunnis, etc
Jim ,   Chicago   (07.25.08)
These are different groups and they woull kill each other. But they ALL are enimies of Israel except for a VERY, VERY small group of Christians which play no role in Lebanon. Go to Chicago or Detroit or any other city with Arabs (Christians or Muslims). They all hate Israel. Very few Christians of them and don't live in those places.
41. Marlene thank you
Patrick ,   Philadelphia USA   (07.25.08)
thank you for incriminating the whole lebanese people, my parents still in lebanon who reject hizbullah militantism more than your olmert does, and along with them 70% of the lebanese christians, 100% of the lebanese sunnis and 5 % of the chiias. It seems you have been blinded by the pain of defeat and cannot play in the world of politics anymore, all you want is vendetta. Your problem is intelligence, not the IQ that you are lacking Marlene, but the intelligentia that would recrute allies in favorable territories and create conflicts in unfavorable ones, seemed to work in the 70's, then syria and the tripartite US/Syrian/israeli agreement happened. I have only one advice for you Marlene: inorder to understand the present and better judge the future, read your past
42. Brilliant Analysis by General Giora Eiland
Brod ,   USA   (07.25.08)
This is one sharp General. He has made a brilliant analysis of the situation. The leadership should take note of his treatise.
43. Great article..
Michael ,   NY, USA   (07.25.08)
Please forward to the new prime minister.
44. Readers send hezbollah antistrategy
marcel   (07.25.08)
eiland has it 100% right. So beyond bombing lebanon to the stone age whihc hezbollah doesn't care about, here are my suggestions: 1) Fire terror missiles in balance of terror 2) Gas, Flood or evacuate hezbollah concentrations 3) Use lebanese civilians as human shields to flush bunkers( use loudspeakers to flush out civilains and then march them into bunkers). israel's supreme court can go to hell. 4)Harden shelters across israel with warning systems and gas and germ masks. 5) speed up the antimissile shield Barak has not done this at any accelerated pace and while IDF has increased training, they do not have my asymmetric plan. Tanks need anticornet systems. 6) Install phalanx antimissile gun systems in various locations 7) Consider russian s-300 systems to shoot down hewz missiles. Do it you idiots. Don't wait for Olmert who is sitting on his ass screwing talansky.
45. Olmert ,Livni and Barak
daat y ,   jerusalem   (07.25.08)
Extending this further our government has setup Fatah as the 'moderates 'and Hamas as the 'extremists. When actually they both want us 'doing the 'dead man's float' in the Mediterranean Sea.
46. We didn't win because Olmert was tired of winning
Moshe   (07.25.08)
47. # 41 Patrick
Bill ,   US   (07.25.08)
The problem with Lebanon is that it is incapable of governing the whole of its territory. It's southern region is ruled by an Iranian proxy army which launches attacks on Israel in the name of the Lebanese people and the Lebanese army won't do anything about it. In no small part because Iran dumps millions upon millions of petrol dollars into Lebanese hands. Lebanon needs to go before the international community and admit that sovereignty for Lebanon has been an abject failure. It cannot control it borders. It can't even compete with foreign influences affecting its central government and that Lebanese territory needs to be returned to Greater Syria. Lebanon was a French mistake. Syria and Israel both know this.
48. To all who think like you...
Fadi ,   Lebanon   (07.25.08)
Whaatttt??? "The only good thing that happened in the last war was the relative damage caused to Lebanon’s population. " !!! Only theese words demonstrate How a war-founders you are... and then you ask yourselves why 95% of lebanese people hate you. I want to remember you that in the last war against lebanon, there was more than 1000 lebanese people dead, and about 150 israeli people dead and most of them were soldiers, and all the lebanese infrastructure destroyed... so who was the looser?? The truth is that the strongest army in meiddle east, and maybe in the world, couldn't be able to win against an insignificant militia.... and that heart you a lot. If you, or your governors, really want to eliminate hezbollah, thay have only to keep shbaa territory and stop flying with your aircrafts doing virtual attacks over Beirut.... Doing that you'll give the reason to Lebanese government and population to eliminate and stop helping Hezbollah. God bless peace... and keep you "WAR-Founder" away from us.
49. IDF failure blamed on the "Good Guys"!!!
Akram ,   Paris / Beirut   (07.25.08)
What kind of think tank is this guy? He's completely nuts!!! Once you destroy ALL Lebanon dear author, who do you think will fill up the vacuum of power in Lebanon? You choose: you have Al Qaeda or Hezbollah2. Don't you know mister ignorant that 65% of Lebanese are Muslims? What happened during your stupid invasion of 1982? Hezbollah was not born at this time? You are such a looser!
50. Fadi you've got nerves to ...
Ben ,   London, UK   (07.25.08)
... tell israelis to keep their "War-Fonders" away from Lebanon while Hizballah (and other groups) harass and threatens Israel regularly. The so called insignificant militia is holding your country hostage like no other in the world. Lebanon is meaningless nowadays; it is Hizbolastan. And if 95% of Lebanese hate Israel well sorry but it only explains the mess this country has been in the last 30 years. Lebanon's truly and only enemies are Syria and the war mongers within (ie: Hizb and its allies). And yes, the fact that the IDF hit very hard Lebanon in 06 did instil deterrence to Hizballah because Nasrallah knows he cannot afford regular encounters like that one otherwise the people may finally wake up and tell him, dude YOU are destroying us all so that your life has a meaning! Hizb hides among civilians and the more dead civilians the more the world will put pressure on Israel so that Hizb can celebrate a victory. By attacking Israel, Hizb puts the people of Lebanon at risk. The last war ended because the Israel's government did not want to put its population at risk from the Katiouchas. You know, the kind of attitude you will never get from any faction in Lebanon. Stop blaming others for your own mistakes! No attack on Israel and no fermentation of attack against Israel (in other words leave Israel alone) and Israel will not retaliate. Instead let's do business and have this area of the world prosper.
51. who is the real enemy????????
yahn goodey   (07.26.08)
we have met the enemy and found out that it is us----chiefly our political leadership that we voted for because we thought that they were for us,not against us. we were wrong, our leaders are not for us----they are against us. they go to bed with their lovers-- our would be murderers--pal and hamas. get rid of the bums ----why should we pay for their whoredoms ?
52. Dear Ben..
Fadi ,   Lebanon   (07.26.08)
you mean that you killed innocents (and still killing) with your cluster bombs, that are prohibited and illegal in all countries less in USA and Israel, because you wanted them to blame Hizbullah??? and you destroyed a hole quarter of Beirut, because you thought that Nasrallah was hiding there, when you have the most efficient "intelligence" in the world, and you knew that he was somewhere in Syria?? And about Syria, please please, stop telling us who is our enemy... we know who he is.... because when we were fyghting against syrian occupation, you were giving syrian occupation the green light, for the big project that you were doing: "Lebanon for Golan, and palestinian integration in the new Syria" So please, we know who are our enemies: our enemies are who want to destroy Lebanon and still occupying our land. I repeat, if you want realy to destroy Hizbulla, just leave lebanese occupied territories and stop flying with your F16 doing virtual attacks over Beirut... and you'll give Lebanese people the reason to eliminate Hizbulla, because they will have no reason to exist. By the way, I agree with you about doing business and let this area of the world prosper. I beleive in peace and in men who want it, because war generate war and hate. WE ARE NEIGHBOURS, SO LET US DO AS GOOD CIVIL NEIGHBOURS DO.
