2. blatant and harmful intervention?
israeli ,   israel   (07.29.08)
But members of the academia feel free to interfere with matters that are concerning the military and state security. Why?
3. Astonished?
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (07.29.08)
First I felt surprised when I read this, but, after a moment, I remembered the Supreme Court and similar. It is really fine to defend the rights of universities and freedom. Just that if you forget that the only reason they exist is because Tzahal defends them, then, they are missing the point. They are important, but National Security is far more important than them! Whoever doesn't like reality is kindly invited to go dreaming elsewhere. Unluckily, we the Israelis, are surrounded by enemies and we have a fifth column in between us.
4. They can go study in Jordan and Egypt
Millie ,   Israel   (07.29.08)
Israel does not have to uphold the "tradition of academic freedom" to students from enemy states or entities. Keep them out. They're a risk. There are many nations where they can go to study. The argument that Israel should open its academic doors to enemy Palestinians because the Jews in Europe suffered discrimination simply doesn't wash. The Jews were legal residents of those countries. Like students from China and France, Palestinian students are not legal residents of Israel; but unlike Chinese and French students, they constitute a clear and present danger.
5. exactly
Richard ,   London UK   (07.29.08)
For many years Jews in Europe suffered from restrictions on their academic freedom, which manifested themselves in Numerus clausus (one of the many methods used to limit the number of Jewish students at universities," Tel Aviv University Professor Zvi Mazeh said in the request.
6. The IDF is right. Just recently, 2 terrorists students of
Miriam ,   Israel   (07.29.08)
the Hebrew University were plotting terror in the TEMPLE MOUNT MOSQUE!!! Quite dangerous to learn with Arabs in Israeli Universities: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/150132 Actually, what are Arabs doing in OUR Universities anyhow? They should stick to their own schools and universities.
7. Let the arabs educate their own !!
Jason Asman ,   boston U.S.A.   (07.29.08)

9. Keep them out, no enemies allowed
David ,   boston, USA   (07.29.08)
You want to study in Israel? Make peace with Israel. Simple.
10. Has NOTHING to do with academic freedom
David ,   Boston, USA   (07.29.08)
This is a bad article. Academic freedom isnt the problem, its enemy people. You want to study in Israel, make peace with Israel. Its really that simple. Then you can apply and if you are accepted low and behold you can go. Its REALLY simple.
11. Are they in complete denial?
Chaya ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.29.08)
There are terrorists scheming on campuses, and these open minded academics cannot take responsibility for any casualties. There are ENOUGH universities in the world- leave us in peace.
12. THOSE ;;PROFESSORS'' ARE CRIMINALS AGAINST JEWS
(07.29.08)
13. Better idea .....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.29.08)
Send the professors who signed the petition to teach in Gaza. It looks to me that intelligence is not a qualification for an academic position.
14. Except that Jews weren't trying to blow themselves up!
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.29.08)
A nation can and should restrict any group or potential groups that spews hatred and clearly says they want to destroy it, from entering or learning in it's institutions. Especially institutions that teach them chemistry and other subjects that directly teach them to harm Jews in this case. You must ignore whatever extreme leftist selfhaters want or say that the world will perceive base on their hatred of Israel. This is a matter of protecting our on people from certain death.
15. Misleading Ynet picture: Salameh IS studying in Israel
Jake   (07.29.08)
Ultimately the court ruled in her favor, and she is allowed to study at the Hebrew University. Why does Ynet continue to mislead by publishing old information. Get with the program?
16. Enrollment process
Andy G ,   ny usa   (07.29.08)
Maybe the Pal arabs should spend more time building Universities and less time building bombs. Let them get there education from there brothers in Jordan or Egypt. I hear the universities in Iran are very good!!!!
17. Academic Freedom isn't Absolute
Londoner ,   London, UK   (07.29.08)
To study in the US not only do you need to be accepted into a US institution but you need to pass the US visa screening process, which includes a security check. Every year there are people who are accepted to universities but who do not get an entry visa. To study in the UK, its the same process. Only now, there's even an additional layer. If you're studying chemistry, physics, or engineering, you're subject to an additional more-intense background check under the new ATAS scheme. And if you don't pass that, you don't get a visa, even if you're accepted to a UK university. In light of this, there's nothing wrong with the concept of Israel trying to keep out students who might pose a security risk. The method might need tweaking.
18. As always respect to Acadimia ///
Asem ,   ME   (07.29.08)
19. #6
Invicta ,   Europa   (07.29.08)
Actually, what are Arabs doing in OUR Universities anyhow? They should stick to their own schools and universities. Miriam, Israel 2008 Actually, what are Jews doing in OUR Universities anyhow? They should stick to their own schools and universities. Geobbles, Germany 1938
20. They just defend their own interest
YOEL ,   Israel   (07.29.08)
As professors are under academic boycott threat, they just defend their own interest. By the way they justify the academic boycott, and this is stupid. As politics, those peofessors think about personnal interests, and not their country's good. Interior ministry and Tsahal must work with no pressure from anyone. Palestinians could turn to arab universities as from Cairo or Tunis, and learn in their own language. Learning Hebrew is a way to open doors to more palestinians, as we have more than enough trouble with those already inside. Denial is something common is a democratic country: we also have the right to say NO when our interests are concerned.
21. Another islamofascist farce -
Arie ,   BaGolan   (07.29.08)
And our left wing goes right to their defence. They want us dead, but they want us to educate them in the interim. There should be an immediate unconditional closure of access to our universities by any resident of the PA or gaza. Let their institutions finance their educations at their locations instead of financing qassam development and the development of virulent hateful media sessions attacking Jews
22. The professors prove that intelligent people make
Dan ,   USA   (07.29.08)
unintelligent decisions!
23. The Israeli left is trying hard to destroy Israel
Gail ,   USA   (07.29.08)
24. #5 - Richard still guilty about making an arab boy ...
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (07.29.08)
pee in his pants while on patrol in the territories (for which he despearately needs a good shrink) is now weighing in on why we don't want suicide bombers on Mt. Scopus. the dispicable comparison to resotrcitions on Jews, who never did anything but serve the interests of the european states and institutions in which they learned to arabs from the territories who plot against Israel daily is utterly dispicable.
25. Invicta #20 always omit salient facts
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.29.08)
The Jews in Germany were German citizens, the Arabs occupying Judea and Samaria are not Israeli citizens. So why don't YOU educate them? Why do all the racist Europeans come here and attempt to belittle us? Honest we are smarter than that.
26. IDF, please protect Israel agains the nasty
Bill ,   USA   (07.29.08)
anti-Jewish, anti-Israel pro-Arab so called "intellectuals".
27. The horrible Beilin-type emissaries are always at work
Shame on beilin ,   USA   (07.29.08)
while the good people of Israel are asleep.
28. Dear University Professors: get real!!
Moshe   (07.29.08)
29. Not Here!
Ely ,   Pardes Chana   (07.29.08)
Please for the sake of the Jewish Nation keep them out.
30. Have the government cut funding to the Universities!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (07.29.08)
Let the donors know that their gifts are used to educate the enemies of Israel. Our tax money is going to fund potential murderers of Jews? These presidents and professors should be jailed for stupidity. Again the enemy of Israel, the high court of injustice will side with the palis.
