31. fasting of preg. women on Tishe B'AV
Mike ,   Kiryat Sefer   (07.30.08)
This so -called psak of requiring pregnant women to fast on Tishe B'Av is contrary to Halacha and to common sense. I am a strictly Orthodox rabbi and my mesorah, based on the psak of Rabbenu Chaim HaLevi Soloveitchik ZTZ"L, requires extra leniency by any safek of weakness or slight illness on Tishe B'Av, because pikuach nefesh and SAFEK Pikuach NEFESH are questions of bloodshed, and this overides the rabbinical fasting days. EVEN ON YOM KIPPUR, pregnant women must consult with their doctor and rabbi whether they may fast, which is from the Torah and CHAYAV KARET, yet illness and weakness can exempt persons on YOM KIPPUR, and cetainly on TISHE b'AV, which only from the rabbis. This wrong and dangerour PSAK to machmir on Tishe B'AV is dangerous and any rov who has a basic understanding of Halachah will condemn this "psak" as AM HARATZAS and BOORISH.
32. Life, especially a new one, takes precedence
Avi   (07.30.08)
This ruling is in contravention to Jewish Law. Firstly, one has a duty to safeguard and sustain life. A pregnant woman has to think of the baby as well as herself. Breastmilk is not only important for the baby's growth, but it's also important for the child's immune system development. And for the first months of life, that's the only source of food and nutrition Baby has. Even on Tisha B'Av, the baby is not going to stop needing the life giving nutition and sustenance the milk gives. The ruling is just irresponsible, and fails to consider the hardship that the newest member of the family would face.
33. 13 and 15
Eliyahu ,   Columbus   (07.30.08)
They will be called deleted if they delete any mark or letter from the Torah of Mosheh the written or oral. The Ribi from Natzrat was a man, almost certainly married, and so Torah observant that it will make alot of peoples head spin if they would care to learn the history. The Talpiot tomb will help. HaSheim he was not for there is only One. As for Mashiach he will not be apparent to the superstitious. He is apparent to those who understand logic and objective evidence.
34. fasting pregnant
simcha   (07.30.08)
this article does not belong on ynet at all - just another diatribe against the religious by those who do not understand observant judaism in the least yet feel a constant need to comment...... that said, it is often easier to fast pregnant than not pregnant - the fluids in the body recirculate - and it is not at all dangerous in the majority of cases. i've done it 11 times, twice for each pregnancy except the last when i gave birth the day before. only once did i feel a need to ask a rav before the fast and got a very reasonable response before yom kippur that year that would have allowed me to eat if, under certain circumstances, i felt i or my baby was in any danger. being properly prepared before a fast makes all the difference and can make it, actually, a very tolerable and introspective experience. but why keep slandering judaism - why insist on doing this again and again??
35. #33 - Eliyahu, Have you been listening to "Paqid" Yirmeyahu?

36. Why is this newsworthy?
Bartley Kulp ,   Safed, Israel   (07.30.08)
Every single time a Rav has an opinion on any issue do we have to call the presses. If the readers would want to know whether or not they are exempt from fasting they should look up the issue or ask their rabbi if they are so inclined.
37. Ask your Doctor!
guy ,   los angeles   (07.31.08)
The only one who can give a rational response is the personal physician of the person in question--be it male or female with regards to the question of fasting

39. fasting when pregnant or breast-feeding
Gillian Kay ,   Israel   (07.31.08)
Having had 4 children and breast-fed them all, I can say that it is fine to fast at theset imes providing you check with your doctor. Mine (non-religious) was very clear that I could fast so long as it wasn't the 7-8 month of pregnancy, when there is a risk of going into early labour. For one pregnancy I was in my 8th month on Yom Kippur, so drank small amounts throughout the day (shiurim). For another I was in the 8th for Tisha b'Av so I didn't fast as there is no concept of shiurim on Tisha b'Av. With one baby I drank in shiurim on Yom Kippur as she was preemie and it was very important my milk supply was not affected. With the others I fasted without problem, they just nursed a lot the next day. In all cases I checked with my rabbi, who first wanted to know what my doctor had to say. For a healthy woman with a normal pregnancy or a healthy baby, fasting is not a problem (though of course it is difficult).
40. Ilan's 'lunatic' allegation
Isaac Balbin ,   Melbourne, Australia   (07.31.08)
Ilan, it is beyond comprehension that you would ascribe such an insulting form of derision to a respected person, let alone Rabbi. I challenge you to visit Rabbi Sherlo and discuss the matter ad advise us if you wish to withdraw your putrid slander

43. Makes a great marketing idea...
robert goldman ,   Kfar Saba Israel   (07.31.08)
If any of you do not remember the old "MATELL SEE AND SAY" it was a semi round object with pictures on it in a circel with a spinning arrow. once the cord was pulled the arrow spun till it stopped on a picture and then it said,"The COW SAYS "MOO"" well now we can market to the good folks at MATELL the same product but but instred of the anuimals we can put the pictures of our most extrime and slightly insane rabbis and call it "THE RABBI SAYS" so when ever one of our crazy ones needs something to remind them of how STUPID many of these rule are just pull the cord and hear your favorite loony tune scream about his favorite sin.. Matell's The Rabbi says" idea is a trademarked bit so don't even try to make or use this in any performances.... got it? Good Now just laugh at this twits.
