1. I thought there is a blackout on Shalit negotiations
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (07.30.08)
for his safety and ours.
2. Ludicrous and criminal plan
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (07.30.08)
Not only will this 1. not lead to the release of Shalit, 2. nor will it strengthening FATAH 3. it will result in the lull ending on the same day. To explain: 1 Hamas is holding power by force, if their goals are not going to get what they have announced they will get they will not release Shalit any sooner - they have no motivation for it to happen as their prisoners are a rallying point not a real concern. 2 If Fatah is to be rewarded for Hamas' behavior they will have no motivation to continue. There will be one or two launches around the day when the first Fatah prisoners are to be released as then Hamas controls when their people get out - thus weakening Fatah not strengthening them. 3. As in 2 above the will be a call to resume attacks as any party in Gaza that wants to hurt Fatah will start shooting and Hamas can claim to be trying to keep the peace thus keeping their hands clean. This will lead to "splinter" groups shooting even if they are on Hamas payroll. Bad idea all around.
3. What a lame idea.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.30.08)
Remind me not to call you if I need a lawyer.
4. Terrorists should be treated as war criminals.
Robert Bernier   (07.30.08)
By exchanging prisoners with the terrorists as if they were law-abiding states, Israel can be seen as upgrading the status of the unlawful combatants from terrorists and war criminals, giving them the same rights as lawful soldiers, without demanding from them the reciprocal obligations. At the same time, Israel downgrades the rights of its own captured soldiers by overlooking the organizations’ systematic depravation of POW rights for Israeli soldiers under the Geneva Conventions. The damage this does to both international law and the international criminal justice system is considerable. More at : http://xrl.us/kj6sj
5. More Carrots?
MK ,   Philadelphia USA   (07.30.08)
How about if Israel declared that for every month Gilad Shalit is not released, Israel takes a 2 mile strip out of Gaza (cleared of people), to annex and never, ever, ever give away? Now THAT would get Hamas crackin'. It'll never happen, of course.
6. Thinking out of the box?
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.30.08)
I think he left his brain in the box when he wrote the article. Mr. Bachar, go find the box & put your brain back into your head. Trust me, it will improve your thinking.
7. Event better plan
Sasha ,   Tel-Aviv   (07.30.08)
Would be to send 50 Israelis every month to become PA hostages as long a lull is maintained, however we will make sure that these hostages will be held by PA, not Hamas.
8. Terry, hear, hear man! Lol
Kev ,   London   (07.30.08)
When are you running for PM?
9. No - this will cause Hamas To Break The Ceasefire
Joshua ,   Bet Shemesh   (07.30.08)
Since the ceasefire in in Gaza is with Hamas, if we reward the ceasfire by releasing non Hamas prisoners (Hamsa Rivals) it would only then make sense for Hamas to end the ceasefire as it will be hurting them.... Poor Idea.
10. needs rethinking
tom ,   toronto, canada   (07.30.08)
although it is true that the current situation is not working in israel's favour, this proposal is not a good solution, either. the proper medium of exchange for "peace" is peace. not land, not prisoners, but peace. anyone offering to sell peace for some special price is a fraud. only when the alternative really is unacceptable (as it was for egypt and jordan) will the arabs make real peace with israel. once you build the expectation that prisoners will be released each month, there will come a month when there are "only" a few, "deniable" incidents, such as two or three fire-bombs a day thrown at passing israeli cars, and then what do you do? and the next month there are a few more, and then you stop the prisoner releases, and the plo will blame YOU for breaking the terms of the "peace". no, this plan is flawed. the rules of the game do need to change, so that it ceases to be a bartering of thousands of arab prisoners (a constantly inflatiing currency) for israeli lives. but a much more persuasive deal would be to offer the hamas leadership THEIR OWN lives in exchange for gilad shalit - namely, if he is released alive and in good condition, israel will stop assassinating hamas leaders. perhaps then hamas' leadership will move faster, because time will no longer be on their side.
11. More leftist apeasement ideas
Jayjay3 ,   Israel   (07.30.08)
The ignorant selfish leftists have created this Palastinian problem in the first place. They never learn from or even admit their mistakes.......just try and appease the terrorists even more. Why hasnt our government kidnapped the hamass leaders to use as a trade? They could easily do this! When the kidnapping fist happened, why didnt our government sent in troops to get Shallit back? Gazza is so small, it could be easily have been done. Its the leftists that wont allow this so the bogus peace deal with Fatah wont be ruined......what a pathetic joke!
12. this proves once again, leftis'm is a mental disease
chaim ,   brooklyn ny   (07.30.08)
13. Arieh Eldad's idea is much better
(07.30.08)
14. There is a way to pressure Hamas....
Z Lando ,   Tekoa, Israel   (07.30.08)
As for Bachar's suggestion, it is so idiotic on so many levels, I won't even comment on it... FIRST and FOREMOST: To stop ALL Red cross visits, and any exchange of information on the where abouts, and the physical situation of Hamas prisoners as long as Gilad Shalit is not visited by our side. If you knew under what fantastic conditions the Arab prisoners are being kept in Israeli prisons, you wouldn't believe it....
15. TALKING ABOUT CUTTING YOU NOSE TO SPITE THE FACE
M ,   Toronto   (07.30.08)
Where do they come with those ideas from? Is there a school in Israel to learn stupidity?
16. By all means, release 50 prisoners every month
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (07.30.08)
In body bags.
17. Do what U have to do - but DO
worried   (07.30.08)
anything and everything to release the poor soldier Gilad Shalit after more than two years in prison. Who knows in what condition he might be ! He looks vulnerable . Instead of feeding terrorist, let them go forever, and bring Gilad back home A S A P . But DO !!!
18. What A Stupid Idea
Dan ,   USA   (07.31.08)
No wonder lawyers are held in such contempt.
19. goldwasser/regev
sas ,   israel   (07.31.08)
you got what you wanted. now think how family shalit feels. if i were you i would be ashamed of my behaviour. u knew u were getting coffins. perhaps shalit would have walked across the border. no pity on you and yours. sad n sorry but that is how i feel. and what about ron arad and eli cohen.........
20. lambs
tarek ,   Ramallah   (07.31.08)
it seems that the writer tries to ignore whom he is addressing. you address the gangs of Israel who deliver when they realize that the other party is not simple. it is not abbas who wants to live in luxury it is Nasir allah who wants dignity and grace.
21. to kyle usa
sara ,   jerusalem   (07.31.08)
all the prisoners are moslem .sochange your trade to [kafans ] noneed to your body bags . but i think the chinese are better than american in trade and in policy. the future will be with the chinese . do you think that youwould not need a body bag .or yours wouldbefrom gold/like your god.is from gold
22. If you want pressure how about some real pressure?
RickD ,   USA   (08.02.08)
How about dropping a two ton bomb on Haniya's house. I agree that Israel hasn't been pressuring Hamas enough. How about blowing up the property of every Hamas bigwig? Do they own houses. apartment buildings, gas stations? What about those Dogmush bozos who took Shalit? Do they own property? The Israeli govt has shown that they have no comprehensive plan to put pressure on Hamas. Where are the psyops? The muslims are so nutty that humiliation is a fate worse than death for them. Why can't the Hamas leaders be humiliated? Where are the cartoons showing Hamas leaders having sex with camels? Why not stream porn TV channels into Gaza? It shouldn't be hard to make their heads explode. The idea of strengthening Fatah against Hamas is foolish. They're both terrorist groups, they just have different strategies. In the end it will come down to war.
23. Bachar - Support Palestinian Moderation
Crying For Palestine   (08.02.08)
The missing policy is a Palestinian moderation. Except for the only Holy Rabin there were no decent Israeli leaders. This is even worse on the Palestinian side. Let us nurture at least one Abraham Lincoln for every generations. But Obama does not need to apply.
24. "Solidarity"
Alex Shilo ,   WashingtonDC, USA   (08.03.08)
Next time Israel arrests a member of the International Solidarity Movement in Nil;'in or elsewhere, don't deport him; rather add him to the list of Pals to be freed in exchange for Schalit; I hope IMS will appreciate the kind of "solidarity" Hamas will display for them.
