1. Can't say, was never there but...
Fradi ,   NY, US   (08.05.08)
But many westernized Jews, have a tendancy to prove how western they are and forget Jewish morals. Not just to foreigners, but their own fellow Jews who do respect G-d's laws and morals. The worst are ones that go as far as being Christian or Muslim converts or the neo-cons. A Jew can only win honestly or G-d will teach you so.
2. I work for them
moti ,   rbs   (08.05.08)
they are great people to work for-nice pleasant and honest-- this is all BS
3. Send the Rubbishkins to jail.
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (08.05.08)
It's people like the Rubashkins that give Jews a bad name. These people should be made to pay for their crimes. Their Kashrut license should be taken away and they should do real jail time for their infractions.
4. wow
INCognito ,   Brooklyn, NY   (08.05.08)
I didn't know the list was that long! Innocent? I don't think so. I mean one of these allegations true - ok, they're not sophisticated, two - ok, coincidence, but sooooo many criminal charges in behavior that expands to soooo many different fields of law - I'd say the prosecutor proved the case - lock'em up!
5. #3 I worked for them too, and I know first hand
Robin ,   Miami   (08.05.08)
I worked for them too, and I know they are very nice & decent people. Every holyday the donate massive amounts of food to community services. NOT ONLY ONCE I arranged for boxes of free beef and chiken to be delivered to LA's Jewish Community. It was their season and they were busy YET THEY PAID FOR THE ENTIRE pallet. As for ISraelis like <> its people like YOU and your ENTIRE KENNEST that need to go to jail for it is idiots like you and your OMLET, and Sharron, and the one before him and the one before that rape and pilage the entiire nation and you idiots stand begging for more rape. go fix your own SXXT. Hasslacha to the Rubashkin
6. Arielush
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (08.05.08)
Are you a Jew? Have you ever heard of dan lekaf zechut? How dare you make such statements about fellow Jerws when you don't even know them? What about innocent until proven guilty? I know the Rubashkins & they are wonderful people who help their fellow Jews. What have you ever done for fellow Jews other than bash them & wish ill on them? Please shut up until you know the facts big mouth!!!!
7. kashrut
jan ,   israel   (08.05.08)
tell me what taking away the kashrut certificate has to do with alleged financial/managerial failings? is the meat not kosher? if they broke a law, the should get a punishment, but what does that all have to do with the kashrut of the meat?
8. Inital News Reports On This Story Said ....
World Citizen   (08.05.08)
that during the initial raid conducted by forces of the US Federal Immigration Services a fully functioning methamphedamine factory was found inside the meat packing plant. This was even mentioned at the Commentary Magazine website. Now these reports seem to have dissappeared. Based on Ynet's own story these people are constantly in trouble with the law. They aren't just "simple butchers" as some in here claim.
9. Dear Jan #7
Ariel ,   São Paulo Brazil   (08.05.08)
And you tell me why the Rabanut want to cancelate the Teudat Kashrut of Ossem , when they make a show in a shopping in Haifa on Shabat. Isn't the same thing?
10. chutpah!
bob ,   USA   (08.05.08)
it is amazing how people come to conclusions when they haven't even been indicted for anything. its just a way for someone who dislikes religious jews, Chabad, or the Rubashkin family to bash and destroy them.
11. rubashkin
jerry ,   USA   (08.05.08)
For those who know nothing more than what they read in the papers - judge to the merit of the Rubashkins since this is the proper attitude for a Jewish person when reliable knowledge is lacking. For those who are personally involved in the Rubashkin matter, remember that your obligation is not to create a scandal that brings shame on the Jewish People. With the operation of these two principles, everything should be just fine.

Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (08.05.08)
Actually I have read quite a bit about them and I also followed the story in Peta. They might be very nice on a personal level and to fellow Jews, but their behavior in Iowa has been destructive to the Jewish people. Locals who never had any opinion about Jews are now anti-Semites. The animal rights organization has gotten concrete evidence of animal abuse. If an animal is not slaughtered humanely then it is un-kosher. If that is the case their license should be revoked. I am Jewish. And Jews like the Rubbishmen make me cringe. They give us all a bad name.
13. RE Jan what does that have to do with?
David Blum ,   B'klyn, USA   (08.05.08)
Treatment of animals and animals for ritual slaughter, conditions of the persons who care for the animals is very important and can have an impact Kashrut, a doubt to the proper care of the animals before the actual ritual slaughter is very significant. This is important to the well being of all of us, not how much meat we eat on Shabbat.
14. Slaughterhouse
Marilyn ,   USA   (08.05.08)
I feel that for anything with a religious symbol, the people want to be very nice and this is more important than individuals owners. . Also the matter of more problems and possibly illegal activities than are listed, perhaps because there is not enough space. Therefore I'm praying to G-d that he shut down the plant.
15. If those stories are'nt true ....
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.05.08)
let's wait and see if this family attacks Ynet for slander . If they don't do it , those stories must be true , or not ? I don't think that Ynet will write this if not , at least partly , true
16. Animal rights activists will murder for animals
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.06.08)
Just this week animal rights activists attacked a researcher's home in Santa Cruz California with a fire bomb while he and his family were at home. By miracle, they escaped the blaze with only minor injuries. So can't say I take what PETA does as being responsible, nor can they be considered an objective source of information.
17. They may be nice, but their other actions R Chillul HaShem
shneerzalman ,   USA   (08.06.08)
Glad to hear they are nice and decent people. But cameras don't lie, and the government has better things to do than waste time and resources busting a kosher slaughterhouse. What they are doing is a Chillul HaShem, and their kosher certification should be revoked.
18. animal abuse/ kashrut
jan ,   israel   (08.06.08)
halacha has strict guildlines about the treatment and slaughter of animals . if the slaughterhouse goes according to those halachic guildelines the meat is kosher, not according to arielush, or david in ny or all the peta people. and if the rubashkins are nice, or obnoxious, or the peta people hate them (they deal with meat guys, peta people hate everyone who deals with meat!) it really makes no difference. kashrut goes according to halacha, not according to how cute the schochet is.
19. Prosecution
Jay ,   USA   (08.06.08)
The Iowa A.G. states they will be prosecuting at least 57 cases of child labor law violation. They state it's the greatest number for any slaughterhouse in Iowa. This article didn't begin to touch on the violations that are being prosecuted at this time.
20. TEVYEH WHERE ARE YOU-with your fiddle
Charlot   (08.06.08)
RUBASHKINS " we are Gd. fearing people " OH sure, HE told them to cheat, lie, steal ,fraud, embezzle, child labor abuse, abuse Federal & state laws, AND, only $ 325.000 in bad checks $700.000 in Federal grants $ 1.4 million to settle another case a methamphedamine factory ? Of course ALL the above is Kosher.. Maybe I should convert, adopt kashrut........ET VOILA.
21. Kashrut!
Ben ,   Pennsylvania   (08.06.08)
Kashrut is more than the slughter and raising process. Ethical behavior is part of Kashrut as well. From possible animal cruelty to treatment of employees, Kashrut is all part of the picture. - Having said that, we live in a society of Inncocent until proven guilty. Allow the truth to come out first and the courts to do their thing and if Guilty, do away with them, if not, appologize to them for dragging them through the mud. Until then, all should just shut up.
22. #15
Ben ,   Pennsylvania   (08.06.08)
If people had to sue for slander to prove their innocents, just because a paper carries a story, nothing would ever get done in the courts. It isn't public opinion that matters or Ynet's editorials. The truth will come out in the courts of the US Justice system. Given your idea, Israel should sue every article that comes out in the Arab world, otherwise they must be guilty of all that those articles say.
23. CORRUPT ORTHODOX ESTABLISHMENT!
Rabbi Sholom Zuskin ,   NY, USA   (08.06.08)
Not only Rubashkins exploited teens, but intimidated them too. One 16 y.o. immigrant was forced to "buy" a car from Chabad yid & had his paycheck garnished. Chabad is rotten corrupt. Our shuls & organizations are nothing but old boys clubs. Time to clean up slime & bring accountability & ethics into community.
24. #7-You are kidding right?
Arie ,   BaGolan   (08.07.08)
Part of Kashruth is ethics!! These people had none, making everything they engaged in suspect. And where was the Rabbi that was supposed to be present checking on EVERYTHING or was he a member of $ha$ whose only purpose was the acquisition of cash flaw? No matter how you put it, this is a stain on the whole Kashruth process. Justice would require making the owners pay the price, and offering the plant to a family or company that lives by the rules - with a Rabbi that has a true belief in what he is doing!
25. They knew, they did, deport all illegal aliens.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.07.08)
26. Ben
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.07.08)
If a paper tells such a story about you , and you are sure that their story is untrue , would you let it without reacting by attacking this paper ? It's not to prove their innocence , the court decides it . Not so long ago a british paper had to pay 60,000 pounds in damage to a person of whom they told an untrue story . Don't compare this to articles in the arab world , it has no sense , or is it the same for you ?
27. Travelling Circus
Janet Reno ,   Allentown PA   (08.07.08)
I would never work for such characters. You have to watch them inorder to "keep them honest." What else is new?
28. Ahem !
Bearded Boegyman ,   Former USA   (08.07.08)
This is old trash news. The merits of the case are belied by the Iowa A.G. trying it in the newspapers. They are also cutting off there own noses, as Postville has no reason to exist without Agri P and a serious chunk of the local economy is generated there. Add to this that these people are massive baale tzedaka, trying to be above board and open with the authorities, this is not uncommon stuff for big meat businesses, and not every A.G., prosocuter, state and Fed office holder in the great USA is sqeauky clean and aggenda free.Of course this doesnt stop the haredi bashing Ynet from making hay out of this. As a vegetarian, I vote for Rubashkin!
29. Charles #26
Ben ,   Pennsylvania   (08.07.08)
Charles, if it was 1 paper or even 2, I would possibly sue for Libel or defamation, but this story is hashed through an enormous number of papers, promulgated and tantalized by those with a hate for aynything Lubavitche or religious. The US conservative movement even went so far as to already "convict" them by insisting their members buy "ethically Kosher" meats from a different hecture etc... This has become less about the accused and more a political anti-orthodox hate fest. My point is, let's wait for the full truth.
30. Ben , an enormous number of papers wrong ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.07.08)
Don't you think that some of those papers did'nt check their informations ? That some attack the whole orthodox world is of course wrong . But promoting "ethically Kosher" is not hate . This story reminds me of a Kosher butcher in my birth town , who sold not kosher meat , and had to pay [ 50 + years ago , when the US$ meant something more ] a sum representing 2,400 $ to the Orthodox rabbinate , and thereafter could continue his business as if nothing happened .
