31. Once again with the bashing!
Yosef ,   Jerusalem   (08.11.08)
in a so called free and democratic society any single person or group has every right to not purchase from a store of their choosing, if your going to start bashing charedim for acting on their democratic rights then where does it stop? do we have the government mandate where we can and cant shop. to all you losers out there that do things bedavka (just because) get a life, grow up! nobody is telling you not to shop there, they are informing the public who can make that democratic choice on their own
32. I think talkbackers just like to bash each other...
shira_z ,   J'slm, Israel   (08.11.08)
If an individual, or community, doesn't like a store's / company's policies, s/he/they have every right to choose an alternative. The fact is, it is the most vulnerable members of our population that are forced to work on Sat if they want a job. I personally boycott Hot because the only thing worse than their internet (lack-of) service is their customer "service." There is no difference between haredim boycotting a company that doesn't fit their ideals, than someone choosing to buy organic free-range milk / eggs because they are against factory farming.
33. Chareidim protest about everything - is that because
(08.11.08)
they have so much time on their hands, not working?
34. rabbis on the rampage
charicleia   (08.11.08)
rabbis authorize themselves to make the most absurd pronouncements. the latest is "“those showing strength will give birth to sons who are the greatest sages of Israel.” and this for not shopping at certain supermarkets!! and if their sons don't measure up, then what?
35. like they spend a lot anyway......
telavivit ,   israel   (08.11.08)
36. Schnorrers protesting too much.
(08.12.08)
37. Put Bluntly, I Am Sick of the Haredi
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. California   (08.12.08)
Now we know why the Jewish community is losing 50,000 souls/year to assimilation and intermarriage. For every Haredi birth (and there are many), 10 Jews leave the fold. We are a dying people, wandering like in the desert. I ask, do the Haredi risk their shekels in private industry? Do they join the army? Do they put their lives on the line? Do they even work, or do they spend 24-7 studying, while Rome is burning around them? In this country, they could be prosecuted for restraint of trade, for conspiracy. Israel's know about the Sabbath, they don't have to be reminded. With Iran posed to nuke EVERY Jew in Israel, this is the wrong time to divide you populution. I am Conservative and as Jewish as the most bearded Rabbi in Israel (or here). Again, the Orthodox miss the point..remember Hitler killed all, from secular to Haredi. The Arabs have the same goal. Their advantage is Israel's fragmented society over nonsense.
38. Iran Is About to Nuke Israel, and the Haredi Do This?
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. California   (08.12.08)
To Shira: If within Haredi congregations, the Rabbi request his congregation to boycott stores, that's one thing. But when they start intimidating others and consider them less Jewish, that's another. Woe the Hassid who confronts me, here in the States or anywhere with this nonsense. Occasionally Orthodox try to have us put on tiffilin at supermarkets (not on Saturday). We only laugh at their outrageousness..the gentiles hate them. We Jews tolerate them, but to a point. Live and let live., it's it all our interests. With Iran about to nuke Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Ashkelon. why worry over trivial religious practices? Better the Haredi volunteer for army service and do something positive for Israel.
39. Boycott the hara-dim!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.12.08)
We should make sure a new government does not give them an agora. We should place a defense tax on all of the hara-dim and others that do not serve in the I.D.F., including their children! They should not receive a child allowance. All there institutions should pay triple the normal tax rate. No hara-dim should be allowed to make allyah.
40. Freedom to shop or not
Mordechai   (08.12.08)
If the radical secularists want the righ to open their business on shabbat then they must also recognize the freedom of other Israelis to boycott stores that open of shabbat. The hysteria of the radical secularists show they know most Israeli Jews want the stores shut on shabbos and they know they will lose if this is left to the free market.
41. Outlaw forcing workers to work on shabbat
Mordechai   (08.12.08)
Several posters have suggested it is an issue of freedom of religion to allow stores to be open of shabbot. If we believe this then we should also have a law outlawing forcing employees to work on shabbos. So it should be illegal to discriminate in any way on an employee who refuses to work on shabbos. Do the radical secularists agree or is freedom of religion only the freedom not to be Jewish
42. Charles #16
Pete ,   Bat Yam   (08.12.08)
The Chreidim prefer that people like you do NOT shop in their stores, they are sick of seeing immodestly dressed Jews come in bareheaded looking for treif foods in their stores. Go to Piggly Wiggly and buy your chazer, bacon ham and seafood there!
43. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU SELF HATING JEWS
Fortune ,   BRRROKLYN NY   (08.12.08)
How disgusting of you people on this talkback go against your own blood. Who cares if you keep SHABBAT or NOT!!!! Go do what you want from driving shopping or smoking Marijuana. But remember one thing, ALL are judged in HAOLAM HABAH when you will be asked what MITZVOT and GOOD DEEDS you kept in this life....That included keeping SHABBAT. Who are WE CHAREDIM to judge. The ONE ABOVE will decide in your afterlife, not me, or anyone else. To me, I LOVE ALL JEWS, from bald, tatooed, earrings and belly buttons. As long as you do not interfere with my SHABBAT and MY FAMILY. Hitler never cared who was keeping the SABBATH or NOT...A JEW IS A JEW, in his eyes. Fortune, from the Brooklyn Syrian community

Mike ,   Jerusalem   (08.12.08)
my dear fellow Jew, living in the galus has distorted your perception of what occurs here in Israel. You fail to understand the implications of a chain like Dror Alon violating shabbos. Not only does it offend teh sensitivities of the religious neighbors (you live among goyim so you see no problem with a store being open on shabbos0 but it also causes a chain reaction of other stores losing business causing them to want to be open on shabbos and forcing their workers to chose between working on shabbos or being fired. That is what happens here in Eretz Yisroel. This is aside from the fact that there is a law a state law like the law in America on Sundays, forbidding stores to be open on shabbos. If the State of Israel does not enforce a public shabbos then who needs this State, we can give it to the Arabs and be like America. Is this what you want for Israel? It is not a hate fest or a demand protest it is a protest of forcing Jews to work on shabbos? Did the dime drop yet? or as they say in America these days Comprende Signor? or in some neighborhoods in NY: Capisce paisano?
45. pete # 42 , bayam , 100 % wrong
Charles ,   Petach tikva   (08.12.08)
pete , you talk without knowing me , you are stupid by doing so . There is no one of all the products you mention , and know so well , that comes in my KOSHER kitchen . Not out of religiosity of course , but i have Shomre Shabbat relatives and friends , and i like to receive people in my home , ande that they feel good and can eat . I'm sorry for you , poor guy
46. #39
Moish ,   Efrat   (08.12.08)
you poor hatred filled man. The Hreidim were here before the Medinah and will be here after Kadima Meretz and it's ilk destroy the Medinah. If not for Hareidim you would not have the heros of the Nachal HaChareidi , nor would you have Yad sarah, Zaka, nor any of the Chesed organizations. As for your silly misconception about Chareidim not working, you are gullible enough to believe the horse manure being fed to you by the liberal media. The fact is that there are more Chilonim who are draft dodgers than Chareidim! I really feel sorry for you and will pray that Hashem opens your eyes!
47. Mice , 44 [ not an error ]
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.12.08)
What does shabbos and galus mean ? Can't you , living here , transliterate from Hebrew , not your GALUT Yiddish ? Nobody is forced to open on Shabbat . People buying something at those stations , do it because they need something this exact moment , it's not their great shopping . If an station open on Shabbat offends you , don't live nearby . Go to live in your places , where no station or shop is open this day
48. mErde-chai , # 40
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.12.08)
Where do you have this " Most of Israeli Jews want the shops to be closed on Shabbat " Give me the references of those stats please .
49. Am I glad I'm a "Hareidi" ...
Ash ,   London, UK   (08.12.08)
... when I see the bigotted and narrow-minded responses here. Most chareidim I know are less prone to streotyping and tarring an entire community with one brush than those attacking hareidim above. Makes me realise how hypocritical the liberals can be.
50. chareidi buying power
Ash ,   London, UK   (08.12.08)
The hareidim have finally woken up to their buying power. More strength to them, I say! Those commenting here approve of free speech and free actions. Well it's their right to boycott who they like in line with their beliefs. No-one is asking the secular Israelis to boycott - the hareidim can do as they will. Let's see how long its takes Dovi to backtrack once a large proportion of the population stop buying from his stores. The status quo on buinesses not operating on Sabbath should not have been broken in the first place. What has Israel got to offer the world if it cannot show that it can be a religious and westernised country at once? Why should it be have been granted to the Jews if there is little Jewish about the country's character and behaviour? You cannot simultaneously declare the Jews have a right to the land and then in the same breath claim that the land should be free of Jewish Laws. Go hareidim! Show that you can demonstrate democratically and peacefully and use you're buying power legitimately!
51. To #46 You are full of it!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.13.08)
I hate liberals aliitle less than I hate hara-dim. Your nahal haradim battalion has a little more member than two artillary batteries has soldiers. They did great work, but no more than any other group in the I.D.F. I worked at a hara-di school and they do not work! They think that the soldiers of the I.D.F. are goyim. They curse female soldiers. The hara-dim mothers are the sharmutahs not the female soldiers of the I.D.F. If you are hara-di,I feel sorry for you and pray you convert to Judaism and forget your paganism.
