1. so let's take out the statistics
uli ,   jerusalem   (08.11.08)
dear mr. russia, please take out your statistics (if they are not forged) of killed soldiers or fighters and civilians in Georgia and also in Chechnya and then let see our statistics of killed enemy fighters and unarmed civilians. then we will see...
2. GREAT! SO NOW YOU WON'T CRITICIZE US?
Ben Avraham ,   Tel Aviv   (08.11.08)
3. This guy is a misinformed twit.
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (08.11.08)
Russia is taking Georgia back. This ignoramous can spew all the misinformation that the Kremlin can create. It is all a lie. The Russians are stealing an oil pipeline to Western Europe, the United States and Asia. Russia is still moving its forces forward. Putin and his pimp replacement have no intention of giving Georgia back. If Russia had not taken Georgia over by force, and established its rogue members in Georgian cities in the 1920's.....there would be no one to rescue in the first place. Russia created this problem to begin with. They don't need to take a country back by force, to fix what they already screwed up, by invading Georgia in the previous century. Russia is like a fireman who is an arsonist. They set half the country on fire......then run in with their fire brigade putting out the flames.....and valiantly tell everyone they will take control over the area, and rebuild the town, under the fire brigades control. Obviously the Russian fire brigade is the only entity responsible enough to take care of such a vital town and country. Creating disasters to steal others lands. That's Russia in a nutshell. And they have the balls to say they are just saving some Russian sympathizers, that they placed in Georgia by force, in the first place.
4. And sometime civilians get hurt when it's NOT war, just like
Miriam ,   israel   (08.11.08)
WHAT THE ARABS ARE DOING TO THE ISRAELI CITIES of Sderot, Ashkelon, Jerusalem, etc. by firing rockets, stones and suicide bombers, KILLING AND MAIMING INNOCENT CIVILIANS. UNFORTUNATELY, Israel has never waged a true war against Gaza. Those "civilians" who were killed were not "civilians" at all but human shields protecting the enemy and deserve the same fate. If Israel will finally go out to war against Gaza, they’ll finish them all off and we’ll finally have peace. If only we had a PM and DM with courage. We are all hoping that Georgia wins this war against Russia who are as cruel as the Arabs.
5. Russian aggression
Brent Garner ,   Lawrence, US   (08.11.08)
One word answer: лгун--which is Russian for liar! I sincerely hope that someone in the international community has the courage to make Russia pay, both in blood and treasure, for this aggression. If Russia is allowed to get away with this, then we are facing World War in the not distant future, for just as the Italian invasion of Ethiopia presaged World War 2, this invasion will presage the formal beginning of the next World War. Why? Does any rational person honestly believe that Iran isn't watching this closely? If Russia is not punished harshly, will Iran believe that they have anything to fear over their nuclear program? And what of the People's Republic of China? They are watching closely as well. Do you think Taiwan will be safe from Communist domination if Russia is not harshly punished? If any believe that all will be well if Russia is allowed to do this, then you are not students of history and are naive fools! The same kind of fools who brought us World War 2. Only this next World War will make that World War look like a picnic.
6. Mr Yurkov. How many Rockets has Russia Received from Osseti
Simha S Mendelsohn ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.11.08)
With ALL DUE RESPECT Dr. Yurkov: Please do not mis apples with oranges
7. Our own little private war
charlot   (08.11.08)
IT IS BY YOUR STANDARDS; Dr. Anatoly Yurkov.""sometimes civilians get hurt in a war"" NO Sir, in a war civilians ALWAYS get hurt. Does it mean that the IDF has the green light to smach into Gaza once & for all? A concern warrior
8. Smooth MFr, that Yurkov...
John ,   Europe   (08.11.08)
"But like they say, war is war – and it could be that civilians were hurt, this also happens in Israel's military operations in Gaza, for example." And now, whoever in Israel criticizes Russian use of force will be deemed "two-faced", "unfair" or similar.
9. The heights around Tskhinval should be taken too
Damir ,   Russia   (08.11.08)
Otherwise shellings will continue. Chechens are too fighting in this war. The elite skirmish units Vostok and Zapad hunt Georgians in woods and mountains. Surprised? Then know the late arch-bandit of Chechnya Shamil Basaev fought against same Georgians in Abkhazia in 1991. It is better to see Geogia as regional bully against small and tiny nations living in the Region. On the arms sales: Currently no connection is made in Russian press with Israel-made arms. All the fire is directed to Ukraine and U.S. Even the Hermes-450 UAV was mentioned as 'Israeli-designed' with next phrase being 'many countries licence-building these'.
10. Russian hypocrites, "In war civilians get hurt"...
GZ ,   USA   (08.11.08)
That's what Georgia can say. They just want their runaway provinces to get back. Obviously, it was OK was Russia to bomb Grozny into smithereens in order to prevent Chechnya from seceding. Why it is not OK for Georgia to do the same?
11. REAL GUTSPAH
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (08.11.08)
Now we should try and bomb the Pallies like they do the Georginas and kill 1500 civilians and then see how the world reacts. (Ras)Putin is the new tsaar of Russia and will do anything to restore Russia to its former Glory and in honesty in his brutal ways he is sucseeding. Wonder if this will pass our censors, Israelis have become such chickens and weaklings lacking any real spine and bow they down to any foreign leader as a bunch of slaves. Besides that Israel was very quick to drop our friends in Georgia and throw them to the lions, so much for Israeli morality. Livni showed her true weakness and lack of vision like she normally does. This is 1956 Hungary and 1968 Tsechia all over again, with weak nonresponding western powers who will drop these people in the drek without a blink of an eye. Meanwhile our European heros will tell us that we can not build in our own land.
12. Russia is first to condemn Israel for killing civilians
Steve ,   Fla.   (08.11.08)
13. 100 times more world attention when it involves Israel
Mladen Andrijasevic ,   Be'er Sheva, Israel   (08.11.08)
I think we should remember all the Russian statements and quote them back when the Gaza operation eventually begins. But of course, it won’t work. Why? Because what is telling is the reaction of the world to the casualty figures of several thousand dead (however unconfirmed) in South Ossetia and Georgia. The reaction is approximately equal to that of 15 Hamas terrorist killed in Gaza by an Israeli strike (but not when the same number of Palestinians, including civilians, are killed among Palestinians themselves) , so we can roughly judge that the Israeli Palestinian conflict is given two orders of magnitude (100 times) more attention when it involves Israel.
14. #13 Yes Mladen
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (08.11.08)
From what I observed - The Israel-Lebanon war was the lead story in just about all American newspapers and TV news for the entire duration of the war. Nothing even close to the coverage of this conflict. Talk show hosts aren't talking about it, newspapers report about in on page 2, and some TV news show about 30 seconds. I wonder why the difference?
15. There's no comparison with Gaza
INCognito ,   Brooklyn, USA   (08.11.08)
Israel does not bomb cities and villages just to bomb them. Israel only does that when it has info that someone who should be blown up is there and that the loss of civilian life will be proportional. For the last several days, what Russia has been doing just that - indiscriminately bombing vicilian population centers...!
16. If Gazans had Russians for neighbours
Ma ,   Slovenia   (08.11.08)
...there would be no Gaza.
17. How come the world is silent on 'proportionality?'
David ,   Hartford USA   (08.11.08)
I guess in Russian that means something like 100 to 1 or 500 to 1 is ok. I guess we'll never hear Russian UN hacks complaining about Israel's nonproportional retaliation any more....
18. PUTIN'S RUSSIA = Disgusting
Meir ,   Toronto   (08.11.08)
I suppose Russia will now be silent when Israel defends itself? Yah, right. What a disgusting bunch of untermenschen.
19. What does Russia say when it deals with Chechen rebels?
Jake   (08.11.08)
and uprisings and terrorist attacks in Ingushetia, Daghestan, and Kabardino-Balkaria? It does what it has to do, and if the world dares to protest, it says, "Shut up! This is Russian territory". Fine! But South Ossetia and Abkhazia are Georgian territory, and Georgia is doing what it needs to do, and Russia should stay out of it! And by the way, Georgia had lost these territories under the pro-Soviet, pro-Russian premier Edward Shevarnadze, and Russia did nothing to help Georgia recover these areas. So, Russia should not complain if the Georgian government seeks Western help in this crisis.
20. Damir #9, you mentioned Chechnya
Jake   (08.11.08)
Russia fought hard to regain control over this area, despite international criticism. Good for Russia. Now Georgia is trying to regain control of Abkhazia and South Ossetia: the same thing. I cannot understand this policy of Russia. It is arming Iran with dangerous weapons and capabilities, which will one day threaten Russia and former Soviet republics. Yet, Russia goes to war against a small, generally peacefully Georgia which has no claims against Russia and does not threaten it.
21. Israel can emulate Russia
Hendrick   (08.11.08)
This would be a good time for Israel to invade Gaza and wipe out Hamas now that the world's attention is focused on Georgia. Israel can do to Gaza what Russia is doing to Georgia and get away with it.
22. "Sometimes?.. civilians get hurt in war"
Damir ,   Russia   (08.11.08)
Sorry, did not spot that at first. I think this is mistranslation. I'd like to see the original drafts. I also think the civilians ALWAYS get hurt in the war. This time a thousand Ossetians for start.
23. #16,IF GAZA HAD RUSSIAN NEIGHBORS THEIR WOULD BE NO GAZA,
OH, DID YOU SAY THAT ,   LOL...........DACON9   (08.11.08)
MAYBE ISRAEL SHOULD LEARN A FEW LESSONS... RUSSIANS ARE NOT WORRIED ABOUT *WORLD OPINION* THEY WORRY ABOUT THEIR GOAL OF VICTORY
24. #1 Uri
Khalid ,   Gaza City   (08.11.08)
Why don't you do the same comparison with Hizballah in last year's war?
25. But when a Palestinian gets a splinter
Chaim ,   Canada   (08.11.08)
The whole world condemns Israel - whether or not Israel is at fault.
26. RUSSIA IS A ROGUE STATE
(08.11.08)
27. Georgia
Stuart ,   west sussex england   (08.11.08)
Let's face fact's here, the situation in Georgia is a disgrace, Georgia has been trying to keep isolated fighting factions at bay for nearly two decades to establish and maintain a democratic society. The pipeline that avoids Russia and routes via Georgia is a factor, and yes the history between Russia and Georgia is also a factor, but one thing seems clear to me, it is obvious that the bush administration have given the green light to Russia to do whatever they want with regard to Georgia in order to maintain an equal status quo when it comes to the bush administration dealing with Iran. Due to the fact that the west is a staunch supporter of Georgia, the USA arms them, Israel also helps in this sphere and also advises them, and both the USA and Israel train the Georgian forces. And due to the fact that Russia is a staunch supporter of Syria and Iran, Russia providing Syria with a missile defense system that failed on Sept 9 last year leads me to one conclusion. The Russians have egg on their faces with regard to the missile defense system provided to Syria, there is also a lot of financial gain involved for Russia. One thing is clear, the USA have been in contact with the Kremlin and given the green light to attack Georgia in return for Russia keeping out of affairs when it comes to the USA and Israel attacking Iran to avoid world war three. I know this post will not be published, however I felt that I have to post it as I feel that Georgia is being delt an unfair hand as nobody will get involved with Russia over Georgia. This is why no nation will allow Georgia to become a part of NATO, Georgia does not have enough to offer to justify taking on the Bear, shame on us. I thought we lived in a democracy. Stuart Clark (Wisborough Green)
28. Israeli leaders, learn from Russians!!!
Bhaskar ,   Canada   (08.12.08)
29. RUSSIA JUST SHOWED ISRAEL HOW TO ACT IN GAZA
Jorge ,   Tegucigalpa   (08.12.08)
It went straight to the bone with one bite, that way, right or wrong, Georgia would never again dare attack Russia. P.S. Not only in Gaza, but also in Lebanon against Hizbulahland
30. Oh those Russians must be MONSTERS
GUH   (08.12.08)
for doing what you people do every year, month, and week, save the last few! My, what hypocrites...
