1. Red Herring
Carole ,   Tel Aviv   (08.18.08)
Are they comparing one to the other? What does Israel gain from releasing him? What argument is there for relasing him? Do those people want a country where citizens assasinate the leaders?
2. a huge difference between...
(08.18.08)
assassinating a Prime Minister and murdering an ordinary citizen! let Amir rot in jail!
3. Umm...I think not...
Gabriel ,   Toronto   (08.18.08)
It's not like Israel wanted to free Kuntar. They did it in a swap. What do the insane right have to offer in exchange for this murderers release? Maybe if they all agreed to leave Israel, it would be worth it. It sickens me that there is anyone in Israel that wants this man out of jail.
4. No Way
TC ,   Haifa   (08.18.08)
Amir should die in prison.
5. # 2 What's the Difference?
Thomas   (08.18.08)
Is Rabin's life worth more than the hundreds maimed and murdered by the terrorist groups Rabin helped arm? That's the huge difference: Amir was responsible for only 1 death.
6. that's fair ......
(08.18.08)
7. Fine, release him into Gaza
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (08.18.08)
If these people want to have him released like any other terrorist, then release him into Gaza along with the rest of them.
8. #5 There is no difference
Matityahu ,   Slovenia   (08.18.08)
Yigal should never be released and that goes for Kuntar as well. I'm just praying that this case isn't a precedent. But with this government you can only expect the worst.
9. Injustice and Discrimination
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (08.18.08)
The obvious injustice meted out by the State of Israel is extremely disturbing. The State cannot, on one hand, free Arab murderers for "political" reasons and, at the same time, apply a different, and crueler, standard of treatment when it comes to its own Jews. That is the kind of discrimination that we, as Jews, have well fought against and are outraged by.
10. Committee for Democracy
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.18.08)
It is ironic that a group of fascists who call themselves a "committee for democracy" defends the rights of a vile murderer of the democratic process.
11. #9 Reuven are you sure you know the meaning
Simon ,   TA the free city   (08.18.08)
Injustice? incase you may have forgotten Yigal Amier this fanatic right wing religious nut case murdered our prime minister in cold blood, because he didnt agree with his political goals.\ What kind of a message are we sending out, if you dont agree with with a politicians politics , just shoot them, do a bit of jail time and come out a martyr>? i think not, this particular piece of scum should rot in jail for the rest of his life. In addition this murderer was allowed to marry and have a child. Anywhere else he would have been hanged , which in my opinion is to good for him. Dream on , he will never be released!
12. Sounds reasonable to me
Dani ,   Tel Aviv   (08.18.08)
Rabin was just a "victim of the peace", to quote him regarding others.
13. #10 the only fascist I see here it is you Mikael ! u support
(08.18.08)
..arab terrorism
14. Amir
jos ,   Eilat   (08.18.08)
To murder your prime minister, or murder ,because you think ,you have a case.Don't free Amir.
15. The difference?
Soeren ,   Cologne/Germany   (08.18.08)
The Arab prisoners were released because the government thinks it might be NECESSARY... – not desirable but perhaps necessary (they may be wrong or right with this assumption, I don't know). In the end the government assumes that releasing the Arab prisoners will bring some good for the state of Israel – out of "political" reasons or in form of a "swap." Nevertheless ALL Israelis HATE the Arab terrorists and killers – I guess. IN CONTRAST the right wing Israelis who demand the release of Yigal Amir (without any necessity other than their longing for) obviously sympathize silently with Amir – THEY LIKE HIM that is why they demand his release. So while setting free the Arab prisoners is assumed to be in the interest of the state (strengthening of Abbas, peace process etc...) – the release of Amir is not in the interest of the state or anybody else (except himself and his sympathizers)... That's the difference...
16. What about Jonathan Pollard?
(08.18.08)
17. Two terrible wrongs don't make a right
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.18.08)
Of course it is wrong, completely unjustified, and a cause of disrespect to the rule of law to release murderers, but that is not the only message behind this campaign. Somehow I think that looking like a hypocrite or worse to expose the double standard that Israel's leftists uses is just too high a price. I'm not willing to climb down into the slime and sink down to their level of disregard to human life. A shame and a blot on Israel that Kuntar was released, but releasing a confirmed Jewish murderer will not make things right.
18. I agree - free Amir
Alon   (08.18.08)
why should we release only their murderers? Let's just let them all go. Why is it ok to free Arabs who murdered innocent children but keep Rabin's murderer in jail? Was Rabin's blood redder? Was he a better man - NO...
19. # 11 - Simon
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (08.18.08)
You wrote: "What kind of a message are we sending out, if you dont agree with with a politicians politics , just shoot them, do a bit of jail time and come out a martyr?" I am to understand that you agree that Mr. Amir's act was politically motivated? If so, how is he different than an Arab who murders Jews for political purposes? Why are you applying a double-standard? Is it because he is a Jew? Do you discriminate against him because you do not agree with his politics? Besides, I never said that Mr. Amir should be released from jail. My only argument is against discrimination and double-standards. It is unjust to treat the enemies of the Jews kinder than a fellow Jew for whom we should show extra compassion and sympathy even though he committed a crime. Afterall, he is our brother. Israel's mistake is negotiation with terrorists.
20. # 19 Reuben - no he is not our brother
Simon ,   TA the free city   (08.18.08)
Point taken i agree there is no difference between someone who commits murder , however each case must be judged on an individual basis and not to negotiate with terrorists. However this monster Yigal Amier, murdered the prime minisister of the state of Isrel in cold blood. This must never happen again. The state has already been to lenient on him, allowing him to marry and have a child. Yigal Amier will never walk freely down a street in Israel as long as he shall live.
21. I don't know about Amir, but how about Amy Popper?
israeli ,   israel   (08.18.08)
If hundreds and thousands of terrorists can go free, so can Amy Popper.
22. YNET WOULD NOT ALLOW TALKBACKS DEFENDING AMIR
(08.18.08)
There more talkbacks send to Ynet defending Amir but none of them were posted here. Wonder why? Obviously, the citizens of Israel know the truth but the Left media would not allow it.
23. Absolutely not
I. Barr ,   Detroit, USA   (08.18.08)
The nice way in which Yigal Amir is treated in Israeli jail, allow him to get married, have a child and discuss his release in Ynet is disgusting. To give green light to murder as a way to solve political issues is worse than Arab terror. Who will protect the politicians, the law makers, the judges, the police?
24. Re: #11, #20 - Simon, please...
Eli ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.18.08)
... learn his name if you want to comment on an article about him. It's Amir, not Amier. This is a good indication how much you know about the subject. :)
25. Yigal will be kept locked up,
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.18.08)
because the government does not want the truth about the rabin assassination revealed. Just like Pollard is locked up in the U.S. to prevent him talking to the media.
26. THE FASCIST LEFT WING MEDIA KNOWS THAT 85% OF ISRAELIS WANT
FREEDOM OF SPEECH   (08.18.08)
AMIR FREED! RABIN HAD MORE JEWS KILLED THEN AMIR! AMIR STOPPED HIM FROM KILLING ALL ISRAELI CITIZENS BY GIVING AWAY EVERYTHING TO TERRORIST ARAFAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
27. Reuven Brauner supports the freeing of ...
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (08.18.08)
a murderer who spilled Jewish blood right in the middle of Tel Aviv. How very shameful.
28. Money
Gerry ,   Boston   (08.18.08)
Olmert/Ramon were paid very well for the last deal. Pollard in jail because nobody can pay. The same for Amir. In addition, if Amir is released we will know who killed Rabin. We will learn only after several people are dead and Raviv will begin talking. Nobody believes that Amir killied Rabin. They call him religious fanatic and hence he must be in jail. Even the Left does not believe that he killed Rabin. How many people died because of Teddy Kollek (former Jerusalem Mayor). And we learnt about this only now.
29. This isn't about releasing anyone!
shrinkDave ,   miami usa   (08.18.08)
This is about a government of narcissistic gentlement intent on continuing the long held tradition of Jewish Martyrdom. Suicide isn't painless.
30. internal enemies external foes
avramele   (08.18.08)
a nation sometimes discards its external enemies for reasons of state and political gain...exchange of prisoners is appropriate when the gains outweigh the losses. Citizens of a state who break the law and committ heinous crimes must be judged by judicial standards of justice and punishment. Without commenting on the merits of either situation the two are not comparable...unless the settlers and right see themselves as a occupied people outside of the norms of the zionist state?
