Aid and support should be extended to Georgia by all peace loving countries to show solidaritary to a country who is being bullied and is seeking freedom and prosperity. Russia is getting too agressive for it's own good.

Aggravate the Russians?? the Russians have been arming the enemies of Israel for 60 years. Every terrorist in the world carries an ak-47 and they are building a nuclear weapon for Iran. No...dont want to "aggravate" the Russians. Fool!!

It is not comparable to having armed militias led by former Soviet-era warlords being let loose in your country and looting and killing without anyone being capable of stopping them. Yes, we have our issues. Yes, we have poverty - and above all, we have mismanagement, stupidity, and corruption. But we have not experienced anything like what the Georgians have since the Yom Kippur War. Try to understand that. They do deserve the aid we can give, and they *are* our friends at the end of the day.

The Georgians have had the Russians slice away at their sovereignty since the day the Soviet Union fell. The military option becomes more and more appealing to a state when the alternative is standing around doing nothing, being bombed by separatist terrorists, seeing a foreign country hand out passports in preparation for a land grab, and with no alternative in sight. And now, Georgians have been cleansed from South Ossetia. Ethnic Georgians made up a third of the region's population, unlike the ethnic Russians who supposedly lived there since the dawn of time (or rather - since the dawn of Stalin). The Georgians aren't "midgets". They're people. Rather friendly people, compared to the Great Russian Empire. I'd take the Georgians as my friends over Russia every day of the week, and it's not like Russia is going to stop arming Israel's enemies any time soon. Russia has been actively hostile to Israel since the spread of Communist influence in the Arab states. There's pragmatism, and there's stupidity. Pretending Russia is Israel's friend is the latter.

Israelis were obviously doing it for cold hard cash (just like any other country) and because the US encouraged if not asked/directed it (think Iran Contra affair) One way or another Georgian Government is the enemy of our enemy (i,e Russia) and is therefore our friend. Maybe the whole thing was was instigated as a pretext for US pact with Poland? (just a guess)

Witnesses in the South Ossetian capital say there’s hardly a home standing in the area where the city’s Jewish population lived. Out of 20 families who lived in the Jewish neighbourhood, only one is left. Nobody knows where the others are, whether they’re alive or dead. “I was pushing myself up against the wall when the bombing started. Next couple of days I spent in the basement,” recalls local Jewish resident Ribka Jinjikashvili. “We used to have a Jewish neighbourhood, which was one of the most authentic and historical streets in the city. South Ossetian Jews say they are waiting for the Israeli government to save them. But since many of them hold Russian passports they are unclear where they should turn for help.
