1. dismissal
colin   (08.23.08)
Religion is the second option for a woman to make false claims after rape. Here we again see a lawyer trying to accuse a company with out substance. Advertising is more important and Ynet fell for the lie.Anytime to attempt to get money and not work for it.
2. Anti Jewish Religious Venom On Display, Again
Adina Kutnicki ,   Israel,new olah   (08.23.08)
The anti Jewish sentiment in many of Israel's 'enlightened' estabishments is downright astounding, AND downright illegal. IF they cannot accomodate otherwise good religious employees, they should be sued into bankruptcy. No one is telling them to close down on Sat, but in NO way should they be able to DISCRIMINATE against religious Jews - in Israel of all places!!
3. there must be a religious boycott of holmes place

4. Reasonable conditions of employment
Eli Vardy ,   Israel   (08.23.08)
If those are the conditions, then it's unsuitable employment for her. There are many other job opportunities. Each to his/her own. basically she is using her Dati status to squeeze money out of the company. A classic example of relious person trying to exploit a pluralistic company. Shame on her.
5. Sabbath observer
Hilda ,   US   (08.23.08)
Pretty sad when one can't be a Sabbath observer in a Jewish country. I could understand if she worked at a hospital in a life saving profession.
6. Finding a way to keep Torah can be difficult.
Rivkah   (08.23.08)
For those who cannot escape the reality of having to work on Saturday, it might be helpful to consider what the Prophet Ezra said were the minimum requirements of being Shabbat observant. He said he would not buy or sell food or wares on the Sabbath. If a person is working in a hospital, for instance, or for the military or other critical occupations, avoid buying or selling food or wares. Take your lunch or dinner instead of purchasing it from machines or vendors. I noticed at Sheba-Chaim Medical Center, only vending machines are open on the sabbath; but avoid even those if you want to observe Shabbat which takes planning. Working at the gym on Saturday but not signing people up for memberships or buying food or products on that day is a bare minimum of observance to keep the job if that is needful. A Chinese woman named Merry Loo in California who is in her eighties decided long ago to observe a Saturday Shabbat. Her family owned a grocery store and could not understand her refusal to work on Saturday, even though she would work any other day even though she had five children and one was handicapped. They ridiculed Merry for years and finally Merry and her husband Henry signed the business over to the relatives who mocked Merry instead of selling their interest in the store in Corcoran, California. They walked away and opened other businesses that were closed on Saturday. That was a heavy price to pay, but they felt it was worth it. If they can walk away from a job and lose a fortune by choice and start over somewhere else, then others can do that, too. Being Torah observant is a lifestyle that lawless (Torahless) people do not understand. Even most Sunday sabbath observers hate Saturday Shabbat keepers. Being hated by the world is normal for Torah observant people.

8. Baruch and Adina , HYPOCRITES
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.23.08)
Defending this "religious" woman by writing Shabbat , that's the way hypocrites act . You probably have read only the head of this article . They have more TRUE religious people working there , without problem .
9. He 6 , rebeccaca , is your abusing husband
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.23.08)
telling you what to write too ? You have no self respect , poor "woman" .

11. Why is everyone arguing?
INCognito ,   Brooklyn, USA   (08.23.08)
Really? She has a lawyer, the company has a lawyer. Let them settle it in court. I am sure if she has the letter, she'll get her compensation. If she doesn't and her claims are unfounded, she'll be thrown out of court. Either way, we'll surely hear about it. PS It's interesting that it's ok with #2 that a Reform organization participating in the "religious" girl's defense is ok.
12. 9 Charles: Drinking again? Your tb's were making sense for

14. Hey charles, take your own advice !
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   ZION   (08.23.08)
READ ! "the Holmes Place franchise employs religious people" In the gym or other venues ? The jobs that they hold, are ones that require desecration of sabath ? A classic example of OFF POINT DUPLICITY ! A perfect match for Ynet's agenda !
15. Before Religious People Start Boycotting Holmes Place
M. Martin ,   NYC/Tel-Aviv   (08.23.08)
Before the religious public organizes a boycoitt of Holmes Place they shoudl know this - Holmes Place is the ONLY, ABSOLUTELY ONLY gym in Tel-Aviv (and I know because when I lived in Tel-Aviv I looked into membership at Holmes Place and found it too expensive and too far from where I live and work - though it's a great gym) that actuially has a special membership package for people who keep Shabbes where you ONLY pay for membership for Sunday through Thursay - it's basically a membership discount for religious people. Now this may have changed in the last 5 years or so, but I still thought it was amazing that they had that. That being said, this woman not being allowed to work there because she wants to keep Shabbes sucks, but things like this probably happen all over the industrialized West. When I was in High School, I had a summer job at a department store where we were REQUIRED to work on Sunday. A guy who was a religious Christian could not take the job and lost out on an income because he was unwilling to violate his day or rest in a country that was supposed to be Christian and has a Christian majority.
16. Working on shabbat!

Rivkah   (08.24.08)
Sunday sabbath dies and is asked by the Lord why he did not obey the Ten Commandments. Which one? The Lord will tell him, the Sabbath. Did the Lord rest on Sunday after creating the heavens and the earth, the seas, the moon, and the plants and animals and man? Did the Jewish Messiah named Yeshua (Joshua not Jesus is English translation) honor a Saturday or a Sunday sabbath? Welllll. Then why didn't YOU honor a Saturday Shabbat? You did not obey the commandments and Yeshua said those who loved him would obey his commandments (written commandments given to Moses by the Lord, not the oral traditions of men). Since you did not obey the commandments, I never knew you. Depart from me into everlasting fire. The awful last words for him to hear after being faithful to the lies of Sunday churches. As he screeches, But Lord, Lord...the angels pick him up and throw him into the garbage fire of Gehenna. Later, the REAL saints walk on his ashes. That is what the Prophet Malachi says will happen: the just walk on the ashes of the lawless ones (Torahless ones). But don't take my word for it. Read it for yourselves.

Why don't you get two tickets to the Paul McCartney concert and invite me to go with you? I don't go out much in the evening, but would make an exception for that if I had an escort......R.
20. The most important thing
TC ,   Haifa   (08.24.08)
...is if it was stated in her contract that working on Shabbat is a possibility. If yes, then she signed, meaning that she agreed on the conditions written and therefore she should just leave the company if it doesn't match her beliefs anymore. Period.
21. We are sill in Galut
sam ,   Jeusalem   (08.24.08)
This is just one more piece of evidence that we are still in Galut with a Galut mentality.
22. To Rivkah
Voice of Reason ,   Here & Now   (08.24.08)
Ah so your true colors have been shown. We were not sure if you were just anti-Israeli from all your postings, possibly a Charediya living in England and just waiting to bad-mouth Isreal or what. Now it to light, not the "light" you have seen though. Your a J for J bible thumper. Don't get me wrong if this is what is good for you than I'm happy that you are happy. Just don't try to stuff that crap down us. Now that we know who you are and "where you are coming from" let the lister beware.

27. 22 Voice: The apostate Sunday churches who persecuted
Rivkah   (08.24.08)
Saturday sabbath keepers like Jews and Waldensians, murdering them, thinking they were doing God a favor is what you think Yeshua and his REAL followers are all about. Zechariah the Prophet said when the Jewish Messiah comes at the time of Armageddon and the third of Israel who survive the coming wars and persecutions see the scars in his hands, he will tell them that he was WOUNDED in the HOUSE of HIS FRIENDS. Doe that sound like he is saying the Jewish root is a false religion? No. Friends of the Messiah are those who are saved eternally. He is not coming to tell the Jews that they had/have a false religion. The Jews and a few others have preserved the Sabbath of the Lord instead of believing a lie that the sabbath is Sunday. That makes the Jews pretty outstanding to the Lord considering the persecutions they have suffered to obey the second commandment to keep the sabbath day holy. Jews who are Jews in their hearts are the root of the faith and some teach others that Adonai/the Messiah is Yeshua. If the Jews worship Adonai and do not know they are worshipping the same Yeshua that J or J and other true Saturday sabbath keepers worship, does that make Jews who worship Adonai unbelievers? NO. The LORD BLINDED the eyes of the Jews (most of them) so that an era could pass in which Gentiles were grafted onto the Jewish religion. If God himself blinded the Jews, are they held accountable? No, in my opinion, they are not held accountable if they worship Adonai. Are the Gentiles held accountable if they believed a lie and honored a Sunday sabbath WITHOUT REPENTANCE? Yes, I believe they are held accountable. Yeshua said those who love him would obey his commandments. Not obeying the Ten Commandments or one of them and failing to repent of the error would keep them out of heaven, in my opinion. They are worshipping another Yeshua called Jesus which is not even the English translation of Yeshua. Joshua is the correct English translation. I think more Christians who think they are going to heaven are headed for hell than you or I can imagine. They persecuted the FRIENDS OF THE MESSIAH. If they do not repent, they are the enemies of the Messiah and must be the enemies of God. Jews for Jesus should be called Jews for Yeshua or Jews for Joshua. They have the name wrong, but they have the sabbath right and a lot of other things right and THEY are more likely to be justified before God than unrepentant, Sunday sabbath keepers who keep holidays, not Jewish holy days. I show them the verses in Jeremiah that condemn cutting down trees and decorating them and they justify doing that by saying they do not worship the tree. Jeremiah said it is an abomination to God for people to cut down trees and decorate them LIKE THE PAGANS DO. Do they repent? NO. They continue doing something God hates. The Bible says God is like a green fir tree. The symbolism of cutting down a green fir tree and decorating it is a symbol of killing God, not honoring him.
28. # 21 What are you talking about?
Thomas   (08.24.08)
She wasn't religious when she accepted the position. She decided that she wanted to become religious and that meant not being able to work the hours required of her position. The gym did nothing wrong.
29. 17 - Where in the New Testament does it say
amnon   (08.24.08)
Christians HAVE to keep the 10 Commandments? Where is it written?
30. Shabbat is a Gift, That so many trash.
Ezra ,   san diego ca   (08.24.08)
Only in Israel should companies be forced to allow Jews to take Shabbat off. Let's face it. The gentile world in the U.S. has no idea what to do with Saturday, so they go shopping or clean the house; rest is out of the question for most. Let's not let this happen in Israel. This should be fairly obvious to most people - Israel is not like other nations. Don't forget, Hashem is the LIVING G-d the reason for the Jews to exist for so many centuries.
