1. They should leave the swastikas to show Germans real feelin

2. They should leave the swastikas, not erase them.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (08.24.08)
The evil that caused the Holocaust still exists & the work of these vandals merely confirms it. The Memorial is not about a distant historical event but about an on-going evil.
3. Time to invest in surveillance - the payoff could go beyond
(08.24.08)
the memorial and expense of a few cameras. Such vandals are likely involved in more than just graffiti, and this could be the chance to catch them before they beat up their next prey.
4. It's too ugly it sould be a plaque
Edithann, USA   (08.24.08)
It's so ugly and takes up so much room it should be destroyed and just a plaque put up instead.. Who designed that monstrosity and better yet, who approved it.? Now with everything being questioned..it's time to revisit the whole shebang!.. ...
5. Reserve judgment until you visit in person
Eli B. ,   Brooklyn, NY   (08.25.08)
The memorial in Berlin was one of the high points of my trip to Europe, and I have been to many a Holocaust memorial. The stark emptiness of those slabs coupled with the underground museum - open FREE to the public, if I remember correctly - was more moving than most of the museums I've been to; this includes Yad Vashem except for the room with the candles and mirrors: this place had a similar but somehow more powerful effect. Give credit where credit is due. That people hate us all over the world is a fact of life. But to say 'they should leave it up to show their real feelings' is just us dealing with that fact of life in a horribly, horribly wrong way.

"Edithann" is a known anti-Semite who likes to troll the boards for incitement.
7. Video surveillance?
Soeren ,   Cologne/Germany   (08.25.08)
I agree that the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin is quite impressing. Totally clear as well that once again some mentally deficient and heartless crazy guys got their show. Wrong, that this would express the opinion or the mindset of the vast majority of "the Germans" in today's federal republic. The idea of video surveillance is great. The problem is that the slabs are standing very close to each other and some are quite high (I guess about 2 meters). The Memorial has a somehow labyrinthical character – you can easily hide between some of the slabs. So a man with evil intentions could quite easily walk through the slabs field and somewhere spray his "swastikas" – and escape before the assault was even detected, I guess. @Terry: While some forms of antisemitism still exist – the Memorial is indeed about a "distant historical event." @ Alan: Don't fall in the trap of your own prejudices...

"It's so ugly and takes up so much room..." Isn't that funny? That's exactly the way a lot of us are starting to feel about you.
9. Here to teach!
Edithann, USA   (08.26.08)
I know you all think it's presumptious..as 'who does this 'goy' think she is'?...but that's only your defense...get over it! I'm not really here to incite..I'm here to make you think about the topic.. Once you get over the shock of having a 'goy' in your midst telling the truth...you might calm down enough to consider what I'm saying and weigh it critically and honestly.....and not throw it out as antisemitic..which always seems to be the answers to all your problems.. that's the attitude that never leads to resolutions..so how many hundredes of years have you been whining about the same things? We're to far along to continue with this nonsense...Grow Up! TATA
