1. Convert
Torah Jew ,   US   (08.27.08)
Let us hope that the zionist government doesnt declare them Jews under aliyah. These people are obviously removed from Judaism. Therefore, they need to convert (via halachic orthodox standards) of course.
2. #1 Shavei Israel is an orthodox right wing organization....
run of the mill Jew ,   who actually works!   (08.27.08)
not a government agency. The State of Israel has a set criteria for definitions of who is a Jew. I refer you to the Basic Laws of Israel on this matter. These people do not fit any of the categories and therefore would have to convert first.
3. Dna

4. This is an excellent opportunity
Buick from Boca ,   USofA   (08.27.08)
to demand that the Vatican build an Inquisition memorial/museum to the victims of forced conversion and/or expulsion. A suitable site could be found in Washington, DC. Funding could be obtained by suing the Vatican and demanding reparations.
5. # 1 look whos talking
Simon ,   TA Israel   (08.27.08)
"These people are obviously removed from Judaism" what like you are removed from the land of Israel, living in the USA ? Bit hypocritical isn't it?
6. This bnei anussim, shavei israel brazilian
nelson ste ,   rio de janeiro   (08.27.08)
home page asks for full legal recognition as jews at the same time that declare themselves christians (in a discret link), in order to build churches which will be called Batei Knesset (all in Hebrew) for converting jews. One can already check that in Higienopolis, a largely jewish populated branch, in Sao Paulo. They confortably slam catholicic church for they are Protestants
7. #5 you silly silly person
Gideon   (08.27.08)
there is something call3ed an exile....in which jews were forced out of Israel. There is also somethign called the Torah, which lays out the rules of who is and who is not a Jew. Very simple.....why dotn we all get along....you learn some torah...i'll join nahel haredi...and we can be a light upon the nations....
8. do a dna test

If you think your a true hebrew do a dna test.More than half the jewery today are of converts.
9. #4 - Buick, Better yet...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (08.27.08)
As the Roman Catholic Church is, for all intensive purposes, the only bastion of Rome still in existence, how about we sue them for the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE?
10. #8 DNA
Kenny ,   USA   (08.27.08)
Don't make foolish, false claims about how many Jews today are descendants of converts, especially when Jews have discouraged conversion for the past two millenia. My wife and I are Ashkenazi. Out of curiosity, we had our DNA tested, and both were found to have Middle Eastern roots.
11. See how they look orthodox; what for? why couldn't they look

12. marranos is derogative
observer   (08.27.08)
Beginning with a furious anti-Jewish uprising in Toledo in 1449, the hostility of Spain's common people came to be directed against these baptized Jews, who were known as "New Christians," Conversos, or, contemptuously, Marranos ("pigs"). This new hostility developed in large part because the vast majority of these New Christians were, in the words of Jewish historian Cecil Roth, "Jews in all but name, and Christians in nothing but form," and in part because the Conversos, freed from the legal constraints against "open" Jews, rapidly ascended to the highest ranks of Spanish society and represented a competitive threat to all but the highest levels of "Old (non-Jewish) Christian" society.
13. Jews in Christian Spain
observer   (08.27.08)
A significant source of animosity toward the Jews in Christian Spain was the widespread belief that the Jews had aided the Muslim invasion of Spain in the eighth century, and in the ensuing centuries had served the Muslims as loyal administrators over the subject Christian population. Jews were typically recruited for this status because they were known to have no strong loyalty to the native people or culture. Ruling elites knew that Jewish loyalty to the regime derived from their status as dependent aliens. In Spain, there was a long history of kings patronizing the Jewish community in return for Jewish loyalty as administrators and tax farmers, and in the 15th century these functions were assumed by the New Christians. In return for payment of a fixed sum of money, determined through bidding, the king commissioned the highest bidder as a tax farmer, granting him the exclusive right to amass as much money as he could collect through taxes levied on the people of a given district.
14. simon #5,I have a message for you
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (08.27.08)
I am repeating it now, since I wrote it to you in a reply in another article at news section, but I think,it is worth repeating now. We Jews, have the potencial to reach the highest possible plans, and by doing so,fullfill what is expected from us,not only by G'od but also by humanity .But the same potencial can be used to reach the lowest ,with the same efficiency. It is called acting by "free will". You,gay jews, are using this potencial to reach the lowest of the lowest. Probably,TA is becoming famous for its "gayery",and I guess ,you all must be the world's "best"on this matter, justly because you are endowed with a special gift that allow you to be the best in everything.Probably, gentile gays are not as "good"as you are because they don't have the same potencial as you jews have, and can not reach the "highest "as you can,and you are probably an example for them. Why am I saying all this: You,by sinning the way you are,you are bringing disaster not only for Jews in general but to the whole humanity, because you are using your special potencial to push we all down instead of high and high.We Jews are supposed to be a light into nations ,to push them in the direction of Hashem,in the direction of the highest ideals,in the direction of the best for the humanity, fullfilling Hashem's plan for we all. This ,we are supposed to be. When we do not fullfill our Mission,G'od and the humanity punish us,because they all know, inconsciently in the most of cases, where Jews are supposed to bring them and to push them:A LIGHT,in the direction of Hashem. They need us for this purpose, and if we don't do what we are supposed ,they hate us,because we are the holders of this Mission;they can not do it by them selves, they need us,and if we don't do what we are commanded, they hate us because we cause also their delay in progressing ,what that means more suffering for them also. You,and the Israeli society MUST undersand the crime you gays are commiting and ,and society should not encourage this enormous sin. You gays are the actual Torah's Sodoma, and what I am saying is as real as you reading my words now.
15. Check them out carefully
Simcha ,   Jerusalem   (08.27.08)
A lot of Latino messianics are claiming to be from anousim just like many of their brethren are calling themselves lost tribes. It's a way to sneak in and get citizenship while still holding tight to Yushkie. I met one of them online. Spanish ssurname, lived in Texas, planning to come to Israel, said he was anousim and then admitted he still believes in Yushkie. Just 'cause somebody SAYS it don't make it so. Lots of people lie for whatever reason. Get this, some go so far as to deny Yushkie to the rabbis and say it doess't count til you've done it three times like St Peter! Sheesh!
16. if you don't want them, we do
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (08.27.08)
goyyim have no problem accepting the rejected. we do not discriminate between the goy and non-goy. we have no difficult procedure to certify anyone as one of the goyyim. you want to convert or marry out of the goyyim clan, you are free to do that. come all, leave all, as you want. we just want everyone to be happy.
17. Ashkenasi opinion about a related item..
O.P. Heimer ,   Ancient Germany   (08.27.08)
the left-wing liberal and Palestinian-rights advocate, Shulamit Aloni, who headed the Citizens' Rights party and served as a member of the Knesset, denounced the Mizrahim as "barbarous tribal forces" who were "driven like a flock to the sound of tom-toms … chanting like a savage tribe." Ashkenazi columnist Amnon Dankner raised the possibility of an Ashkenazi-Mizrahi cultural war in Ha'aretz: This will not be a war among brothers … [because] these are not my brothers … The sticky blanket of "Jewish love and brotherhood" is thrown on my head and I am asked to be considerate of the [Mizrahi] cultural deficit and the authentic feelings of discrimination. My blood boils when I hear those hypocritical calls. They put me in a cage with a baboon running amok and then they tell me: "Okay, now you are together and begin a dialogue.…" Now I want to tell you that I am tired of empathizing and understanding. I have heard all the stories about discrimination, the social-economic gap, the feelings of frustration, the DDT and the maabarot. [I am told that] we [the Ashkenazim] have Heine, Freud, Einstein, and the wonderful synthesis between Judaism and Western culture, but the [Mizrahim] also have some wonderful things: hospitality, respect for mother and father, and a wonderful patriarchal tradition. … For me, however, they are not among the traits that I wish to see in the society that my spiritual fathers and I dreamed about establishing here: an exemplary and modern society laced with the most beautiful visions of humanistic liberalism. [Still] the advocates of Jewish love and brotherhood say, "Do not call them [the Mizrahim] Khomeini-like or primitive. It makes them even angrier. Read more? http://www.meforum.org/article/707

20. THEY ARE TRYING TO CONVERT JEWS TO CHRISTIANITY, HERE.......
NELSON STEIN ,   RIO   (08.28.08)
AND THEY ARE THE ONES WHO CLAIM DNA JUSTIFICATION. THAT'S VERY CONVENIANT FOR THEIR TASK, AS DNA BASIS ALLOWS THEM TO BE "RENEWED JEWS, IN JESUS THE MASHIAH". I REGRETT IT SEEMS MOST PEOPLE HERE ARE NOT AWARE OF THAT. THE PROBLEM IS QUITE BIG SINCE THEY CLAIM IN THEIR BRAZILIAN HOME PAGES FULL LEGAL RECOGNITION AS JEWS , DESPITE TERRIBLE REJECTION FROM "OTHER JEWS". THEY HAVE THEIR OWN COMPLETE JEWISH THEOLOGY, QUITE SOPHISTICATE, SO THEY ARE NOT TRYING TO GATHER THE JEWISH PEOPLE NOWAY. THEY CLAIM INDEED TO BE "THE JEWS", THE TRUE ONES ACCORDING TO THE TORAH, AS THEY DO NOT REJECT OTHER JEWS AS WE DO TO THEM. IT'S ALL LIES.........THEY HIDE THEIR CHRISTIANITY AND IT'S VERY NAIF TO BELIEVE THEY SEEK FOR VISAS FOR SOME ECONOMICAL REASON, FOR THEY HAVE LOTS OF ASSETS AND THEIR MISSION IS TO CONVERT US ALL, AND LITERALLY TAKE OUR PLACE AS POLITICALLY RECOGNIZED JEWS.THEY HAVE THEIR OWN "JEWISH SEFARADIC FEDERATION" AND WISH TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF US, AND THEY ARE ALREADY PRACTICING TRADITIONAL CHRISTIAN ANTISEMITISM BY CHARGING US THE "OTHER JEWS" AS SECTARIAN AND SO ON BUT, THIS TIME, THEY ARE SPEAKING AS "JEWS" THEMSELVES.
21. Real Jews
Rafael Sousan ,   Lisbon, Portugal   (08.28.08)
You don't need to follow judaism in order to be considered jewish or zionist. Jews are identified by genetics. It's in the blood. I never had no religious education, but i know my mother comes from two anusim families. So that makes me at least 1/2 jew (not sure about my father side). Here in Portugal most families have jewish blood. It's a fact most of of us portuguese also have celtic, roman and arab blood, and It is also said that the germanic people had a strong impact here in this country (during the visigoth era), however if you look at the average portuguese, you'll notice there isn't much ressemblance. We're mostly brown hair, dark eyes and short people, unlike germanics. I've also noticed that many historians seem to have forgotten about the first christians in Europe, who were jews. It appears the connection the first jewish christians had with Israel was forgotten as soon as they got mixed with the celtics, the romans, the visigoths and even the first christian arabs here in the Iberian Penisula, that is, Sefarad (or Al-Andaluz as the arabs use to call this part of Europe), hence it may be harder to trace their role in Portuguese and Spanish History. As a portuguese, i feel sad to see the descendants of Isaac and Ismael fighting each other, specially because i'm from a country where both sides had a great relationship during the first centuries (from the 8th to the 11th) of the arab rule. The golden era for jews and arabs in Portugal and Spain ended with the rise of fundamentalist Islam and the division among arabs here and also along with the rise of the christians, who in the end forced both sides to convert. Fundamentalism is harmfull in all its shapes. That goes for judaism, christianism, islamism, atheism (communists) etc... Shalom
22. Bnai Anousim
Avigayil Neshama ,   Tuckahoe, NY, USA   (08.28.08)
Yes. It is very common now. I suspect that it in my family also, although I don't know for 100% sure. I have met many who do. It is becoming so common to see the resurrection of a people thought assimilated. Bnai Anousim is the proper term ("Children of the Forced Ones"), as Marranos is derrogatory, meaning "Pigs" in Spanish. I'm really touched to hear this story.
23. Jewish or not??
Jew ,   Israel   (08.28.08)
There are many bnai anusim in South America and even parts of the US who convert to Judaism or else just say that they are Jewish, but they still believe in JC and do not want to give up that belief. They should not be considered Jews today unless they truly believe in Judaism and undergo an Orthodox conversion. Real Jews do not believe in JC as the Messiah; if people do believe in him, then they are not Jewish.
24. definition of ultra-orthodox Jews
observer   (08.28.08)
they are strictly Torah observants except for the ten commandments.
25. True converts??
Sara ,   Jerusalem   (08.28.08)
I have come across people who say that they are descended from Jews, do conversion (sometimes even Orthodox), but do not give up their Xtian beliefs. It's gotten to the point that I watch people like this very carefully, and do not become friends with them until I am quite sure that their conversion and belief in Judaism are for real. I've already met a few who are here to missionize. We must be very cautious. They are out to destroy us from within.
26. 18 Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha that was AWESOME! Hilarious!

I wish I had thought of that one first. Woo hoo!!!!!! Yeah! Keep rockin'!!
27. To # 14 , the hateful underdevelopped keren
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.28.08)
You and the Israeli Society must understand that you commit a crime by being so hatefull towards other Jews , non believers , gays and so . You and your alikes are those who try to divide the Israeli people . You and your alikes are only spreading hate towards all those not following your rules .
28. #14 and i have a message for you keren
Simon ,   TA the free city   (08.28.08)
And that would be" Your rules not mine" Yes i am jewish, yes i am Israeli and yes i am Gay. I do not live by the Torah and i do not belive in the Torah and i do not and never will live by its rules. simple as that . i have my beliefs on God but that is my right as much as it is yours. However as you know Israel is a democratic country and you are entitled to live your life according to your beliefs and so am i. So Keren you can winge and whine and quote passages from the bible untill the cows come home my dear, but it dose`nt make the slightest bit of difference to me. Maybe God is the true judge of people not you, but thanks ill take my chances on that one for i have found my life and my true happiness in being myself and actually Keren despite what you might think about me and other gay people i`m actually quite a good person and always try to help others less fortunate than myself and donate a lot of money to various charities too. so i wish you well and all the good things in life Simon :-)
29. Marr Anuse
Rafael Sousan ,   Lisbon, Portugal   (08.29.08)
To #25 You're wrong. Being jewish means having jewish blood. Not following Judaism. I'm an atheist. I never had religious education and it's not your obsolete religious opinion that will change cientifical facts. Cience is above religion. It's sad to know many of us here in Portugal, Spain and South America lost our connection to cultural heritage that goes beyond religion (language, literature, music, dance...) and hence i hope more of us become aware of our jewish roots. I don't agree though that we have to convert to judaism in order to consider ourselves jewish. That's just nonsence. We're jewish by blood no matter what people like you say! Regarding christianism (the original one and not the roman adaptation), well i find it only to be a different version of judaism. I'm not sure if Jesus Christ considered himself to be the Messiah. That could a belief that gained strengh in Rome. The stories about miracles are obviously fake for a man of Science. But aside from myths and the terrible translation of the original Bible made by the romans (who tried to adpat the Torah in way they felt suitable) there are good principles defended by Jesus. These are priniciples you also find in the Talmud but i'm guessing Jesus took them more serious, while rejecting at the same time some of the Torah laws that he found unreasonable (like stoning adulterous women). So in a secular perspective, i would say the Torah can only be fully accepted if not literally interpretated. That is to say that a person like me can only interpret God as being the Universe and not some transcendental figure that only communicated with jewish people some thousands years ago, in a time when people had no idea what causes the rain, thunder bolts, earthquakes or that the Earth is round. So in the same way, i would say you can only accept that Moses laws came from God if you take that Moses himself was part of God just like everything that surrounded him while he was alive. For instance, i can only accept the stoning of adulterous women, if you take "stoning" as a metaphore for calling someone's attention. And so on. In a world of scientific knowledge, there is no room for people who still believe the world was made in seven days and that we all came from Adam and Eve. DNA evidence and archaelogical finds clearly indicate that we descend from primates. That is also to say that more important than being jewish is the fact that we're humans and we share the same roots with people from other ethnicities. So, in the end we're all one! And for the ultraorthodox jews who find themselves to be superior in regards to other people and claim the right to impose their laws and beliefs by violence, let me tell you're not being different from the Nazis, the fundamentalist catholics, or the fundamentalist muslims. Shalom
30. #29 You,atheist,don't agree?Keep being atheist!
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (08.29.08)
"I don't agree though that we have to convert to judaism in order to consider ourselves jewish." You can agree or not with whatever you want, but one,to be part of the Jewish People, must agree with what WE consider correct, otherwise he/she can keep being christian,muslim,budhist,atheist...We just don't care.
