all of Israel. ,   Maurie, Israel   (08.26.08)
2. Israeli leadership
Oneg ,   Israel   (08.26.08)
Jabotinski has been e liminated from textbooks to.make.room.for.Nakba.
3. a new government
ss ,   israel   (08.26.08)
THE SOONER THE BETTER. What is happening here is a total disaster. We are on a downhill roller coaster almost at a point of no return.
4. I wish I had a good answer.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (08.26.08)
Ms Givon expresses the concern most of us feel about the state of our political system. We are like a bankrupt company. The "stockholders" are not just Israelis, but Jews worldwide, who risk losing everything because of woeful mismanagement. But countries, unlike companies, cannot file for Chapter 7 to re-organize. Unfortunately, Chapter 11 remains on the table. Our political system is at a dead-end. But political systems have an enormous amount of inertia. While there is certainly great discontent, it is hardly at the level to force real change. As long as daily life continues more or less normally, apathy & compacency are the order of the day. It takes a real crisis to force change.
5. New Leaders
Joel ,   Jerusalem   (08.26.08)
The author of this essay , Chana Givon, wrote a fine article which is not ideological, like much of the content of the Israeli press. She has written an article appealing for the good of the State of Israel, rather than for advancement of a specific interest group. This "mamlachti" approach offers a good example for others to follow.
6. # 4 don't worry
Larry The Pessimist ,   zefat israel   (08.26.08)
Terry, the crisis you talk about unfortunately is on its way and inevitable...The next War will probably be Syria ,Iran and Hizbullah maybe even Russia also against Israel ,it will be a massive wake-up call for Israel which will make all previous middle east conflicts look like a picnic. It will be raining missiles and ,unlike 2006 Lebanon war 2 there will be nowhere to run.Yesterday the Israel Air force completed transfer of its Transport and Refueling planes from Lod Airport to the Negev, probably because they know Ben -gurion airport will very likely be taken out in any future conflict. So dont worry ,a very real crisis is on its way coming to a cinema near you very soon folks, and we will be lucky to survive. But as long as Israelis can still enjoy their cppuccinos and espressos and hummus whats to worry about?
7. Amazing
Ofer ,   Israel   (08.26.08)
She is 100% correct, and what is also amazing is that you will find absolutely no one who has a good word to say about Olmert. Everyone is in agreement that he is a complete failure. Personally if elections were held tomorrow I can't think of anyone who I would vote for.
8. The whole of our leaders are corrupted.
(08.26.08)
We have no leaders. All look after their own interests. Israel has not been in this bad a predicament sinse the days of the Kings of Israel. We need the Mashiach now!
9. Leadership
Freddy ,   jerusalem   (08.26.08)
Most of us in this country are very clear that new leadership is badly needed. But who and where are they?? Do you see anyone capable of changing the present course which we all know will lead to disaster??
10. To Maurie #1
Efraim ,   Israel   (08.26.08)
Uzi Landau is a fake. Benny Begin is better than him. Feiglin is good, but he is a long way from being PM
11. Thank you, Ms. Chana Givon
Dr. Ron Breiman ,   Hatikva   (08.26.08)
Thank you, Ms. Chana Givon for a clear Zionist analysis of the situation in Israel. A return to Zionist national platform is urgently needed! Zionism Now is the true answer to the corrupted Peace Now movement and its followers like Olmert and Livni. A two-state-solution is exactly the opposite of peace.
12. To #4 Terry - I tried to reply to you talkback but...
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.26.08)
it appears the editor didn't like what I said. Her goes again. Our system is rotten. Our politicians are self centered, self righteous and a damn disgrace but have a good look at the rest of the world. I don't know if you watch any of the overseas news channels but when I see the oppression in China, the human rights abuses in Tibet, Sudan and Zimbabwe, the slums in South America, Africa and Asia and the homeless figures in the great "Goldena Medina - the USA" I really feel that we are actually not too badly off! We have Freedom of Speech and our country is not too much of a Police State. We can call each other names and love (provided you are "straight" in some areas) and hate whoever we like (in all areas) and we have lots of food in our supermarkets and even a little money to buy those goodies. Everyone has a Cell phone and MP3 or MP4 player ("ungodly" as some might call it) and just look at all the satellite dishes on the roof tops! The only real censorship is when the Editor of YnetNews doesn’t like you criticizing some of his friends. So are we really that badly off? Of course you are right about the apathy but do you really think that we mortals who vent on YnetNews can make a difference? I am pretty sure that our politicians don't even read Ynet Hebrew never mind English. Where does the blame lie? It lies with the TV Media. Yonit Levy is a great anchor but there is no way that you or I can vent. No e-mail address, no FAX and occasionally a phone number which is always "busy". If you send e-mail to "Shesh with Oded Ben Ami" it probably goes into the trash. When did you last see a Minister called to account or TV? They either won't appear and the TV News lets them get away with it or if they do, the questions put to them are a waste of time. We have had a go at changing the political system and we got Bibi and we had a hell of a time in getting rid of that lot! The problem is, and you and I know it, that to change the system our leaching politicians will basically make themselves unemployed and I can really see that happening! Maybe we should found a new political party: The Anti-Apathy Party!
13. Right you are
Michael Guggenheimer ,   Israel   (08.26.08)
We certainly do need a different leadership, one that is Zionist and not corrupt. I recommend the Hatikva party; look them up and see their platform.
14. Thank you Ms. Givon
Shoshi ,   Israel   (08.26.08)
I wish to see such articles in the ynet in Hebrew. More people need to be awaken...
15. Chana Givon
Michael Gorinsky ,   Delray Beach Florida   (08.26.08)
I Congratulate Chana Givon on a very fine article and a wake up call to Israel's so called leaders now and hopefully to a New Government(not Kadima nor Labor). The glorious Israel of Old with its wonderful Zionist values must be re-established.Once again it would be wonderful to hear "Ani a Zionut" I am a Zionist with Pride. I remember being at a New Years Party in the Old City of Jaffa on New Years Eve 1974,just several months after the begining of the Yom Kippur War.Everyone was singing "I am a Zionist" from the Street Walkers to the Biggest Executives with Great Enthusiasm and Fanfare. I remember the Greatest Leader of Modern Day Israel Menachem Begin Z'L and the Love eminating from him every time He spoke of Eretz Yisrael.
16. Chana Givon Part 2
Michael Gorinsky ,   Delray Beach Florida   (08.26.08)
I think the decline begn with the advent of Sheli(Political Party)and its embrace by the ao called "Peace Now" movement that set in the rot and selfishness. The Best thing would be to end the Haaretz's of Israel and their terrible defeatest articles that eminate defeat, and corrupt the mind. Israel the State with its original ideals Of Love Of The Land,Love of Our Fellow Jews and The Wonderful History of Kings, Prophets and Great Jewish Figures in Israeli and Jewish History. Let Us realize the Day when once again Hatikvah will not only close one day but start another with Vigor, Hope Determination , Strength and Pride.Let Love of The Land Triumph and Let Corruption end. We Pray for the days of the Begin's Ben Gurions, and Goldas to once again take hold. I hope o see our Hope and Pride Back. I hope it happens very Fast.

18. Terry and his " philosophy" is misleading
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (08.26.08)
Terry you try to show your competence but it is not convinsing. As an intellectual I already mentioned that Israel is at the dead end because they don't see the heavenly light in the image . Gospels are totally right when they say that there is `no truth in the wordly philosophy of sinful behaviour and even Gideon Levy agrees with me. As Jesus said see and remember who were your friends and enemies who came from the Valley of Death to bring the Light to the lamb of God.
19. Moshe Yaalon fits the bill
mel ,   Ra'anana Israel   (08.26.08)
20. #12 David, Karmiel, Israel.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (08.27.08)
I liked your comment - don't laugh, a new political party whose only platform is to promote gov't. reorganization is not that bad an idea. As for the rest, you know, human nature is what it is - apathy & complacency are pretty much the rule for most people everywhere. The fact that Israel is generally a comfortable & easy place to live doesn't help. People naturally believe tomorrow will be like today, until, of course, it isn't. It takes a major crisis to get people off their tuchas. What you say about the media is actually true all over the world, not just here in Israel. Our problem here in Israel is we can't afford the luxury of being apathetic & complacent - I've lived in quite a few countries but none of them were in danger of ceasing to exist.

22. Israelis need leaders who care about the FUTURE OF ISRAEL
Zvi   (08.27.08)
Not about their own future, or the future of one party, or the future of one sect.
23. Israel only Tikva / hope is the Tikva-Party.
Alon Ben Kadosh ,   Israel   (08.27.08)
24. Uzi Landau is a FRAUD
Rob ,   NY   (08.27.08)
The day before the Liku vote on Sharon's "Disengagement", Landau stated, "I, too, am in favor of painful concessions, but I oppose this plan because we are not getting a good deal." I asked him which concessions he's willing to make, and he answered (in a public forum) that he'll let us know after he's Prime Minister.
25. To Ron Breiman and Eldad
Rob ,   NY   (08.27.08)
Mr Breiman, You have publicly stated (since you've become Eldad's spokesperson) that Shamir is your IDEAL leader. Shamir was a disaster. He banned a torah-true Jew from the political process (Rabbi Kahane) He took 39 scud hits without responding (setting a horrible precedent) He asked the Lubavitcher Rebbe if he should go to Madrid. The Rebbe said NO and Shamir went anyway. This started the sham peace process. He offered the PLO 5 years of autonomy in J&S before final status talks. THIS IS YOUR IDEAL????
26. Ready for new leadership
DT ,   TA Isr   (08.27.08)
Not Livni, Not Mofaz, Not Barak and if Bibi makes does make it it is only because they just loath him a little bit less. Come on Feiglin, Landau and anybody who can tell right from wrong
27. life is not theories
ةmajeeda ,   jerusalem   (08.27.08)
leaders do not make a nation but nation arise the leaders . both people and leaders make the history . this is the life not theories .. i think israil is done by leaders and by theories .. it is the fault from the start
28. Leadership and Management
Jack Davis ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.27.08)
I see the only way this rotten to the core political system of corrupt self serving politicians that are unable to defend and economically serve its people will ever change when the enemies rockets start falling on complacent Tel Aviv. This cities mind set will change to one of leadership for survival not decadence.
29. Politicians beware: Voters opened their eyes.
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (08.27.08)
All fake leaders are in the course of being eliminated from the political arena of Israel.
30. Moshe Feiglin
alan ,   texas   (08.27.08)
Dump the diplomatic niceties, bring in Moshe Feiglin.
