31. That's how it feels, my haredi bretheren...
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (08.27.08)
This is JUST LIKE trying to tell gay people we can't march (respectfully - Jerusalem pride it NOT Tel Aviv pride) in downtown, non-religious/residential areas in Jerusalem. NOBODY SHOULD BE BANNED OR DRIVEN FROM PUBLIC PLACES. PERIOD. I AM AGAINST IT.
32. Does any body wonder how a grandfather turns monster ???
Harry   (08.27.08)
This disgusting behavior in the park imbues the destructive cahracteristics of the Human or Non Human being. All the TB who somehow agree with this sort of behavior look in the Mirror and tell me if you see a human Being or a digusting animal ????
33. Secular hate of the traditional Jew is anti semitic
JMK ,   NY   (08.27.08)
I know someone who ran a gas station and attacked a private school bus of hassidic teenagers at the gas station he managed near Kfar Vitkin, chased them away like dogs, yelling like a lunatic and is an apostate to christianity.
34. If an Arab family was driven from the park...
Aviva ,   Jerusalem, israel   (08.27.08)
The same TB'ers who are celebrating that this haredi family "deserved what they got" would be wringing their hands and crying over "despicable racism" suffered by the poor helpless Arabs.
35. To almost everybody on this board
Marty ,   USA   (08.27.08)
The fact that some Haredis treat seculars in a similar way is no excuse for some seculars to treat Haredis this way. Both actions are repugnant and have no place in a free society. But then Israel has become a fascist state. The current dictatorship has created such a society
36. individuals
Emma ,   Herzilya   (08.27.08)
I think that we need to look at these cases in terms of the individuals and not in terms of the whole group. Not every Secular person thinks alike and not every Heradi thinks alike. We all have our incidents of the other side mistreating us, but we must look at ourselves and ask if it is right to generalize a whole group of people.
37. no #31. you are gay and defy God
adam ,   tel-aviv   (08.27.08)
it is not the same thing. you are IMMORAL. respond or argue all you want it wont change the situation. as a Jew this is one thing that the religion is very clear about . it states in the torah that we cant eat pig or camel. that means we know for a fact that those two animals are not kosher.period. its states that a man shall not lie with another man. period. we know that it isnt "kosher". your argument is without any foundation and completely misses the point.
38. #31 Two wrongs never a Right did make
Larry ,   zefat israel   (08.27.08)
Please do not confuse the issue.
39. # 31 What do you mean Respectfully?
Larry ,   zefat israel   (08.27.08)
How can Homosexuals parading in the holiest city in the world be respectful?
40. you are all as bad as each other
Larry ,   zefat israel   (08.27.08)
41. Simon TA
shadoil ,   Jerusalem   (08.27.08)
Where is Simon from TA the self righteous secular who is always quick to point out the faults of the Haredim and NEVER NEVER admits to faults in his community? COME OUT COMEOUT WHEREVER YOU ARE GF!
42. A sad day for Charles
Jo Jo   (08.27.08)
This happened because people like you bunch every haredi in the same basket. Did this family throw acid and burn shops? There is an undercurrent of hate in secular Israeli society and if people like charles and Simon had their way, they would cart the haredi all off to camps. I am serious. I have never heard of haredi just attacking secular for being secular. There is always a “justified” reason when a haredi carries out some violent action, this by an extreme MINORITY. However, the majority of secular would not think twice about attacking the religious, even though they are minding their own business. My brother was attacked by some anti-religious Israeli thug just for being religious. He had to have he eye lid stitched up. People like Charlie think only the secular are decent, productive, and normal. However he is just full of hate. Hate for religious Jews and hate for God.
43. Haredim gone wild
Dr. Dave ,   NYC   (08.27.08)
Haredim abuse and attack non-haredim and now they reap what they sow. Haredim are obsessed with sex and verbally attack even elderly women because they are "offended" by the way they dress or where they sit in PUBLIC places. Sadly this family wanted to peacefully integrate in Israeli society. But THEIR society has set the boundaries and discriminatory precedents. Until the rabbi/leaders of their communities reign in their zealots and they themselves stop incitement against Jews who differ from them, we can expect much deeper rifts and more hatred. The onus is on them. Especially since they are heavily subsidized by the overly generous, non-religious taxpayers and protected by non-Haredi soldiers, both male & female, whom they take for granted.
44. why all the hate?
L.A. Yid ,   Los Angeles, USA   (08.27.08)
It saddens me to see this is Israel. In America it is different. My children who are haredi play in the park with secular jewish children of all back grounds. My child's preschool which is adminstered and funded by haredim, has a student body that is at least 50% non-religious. Why can't we have mutual respect in Israel?
45. Clear-cut Bias Crime
SL ,   New York   (08.27.08)
Having very recently been in that neighborhood, I saw nothing to suggest such an attitude (and I wear a dark kippah)... But what happened sounds like a clearcut base of a bias crime, and in a normal city would be investigated and prosecuted as such.
46. I was walking in a jewish religious street in Queens, NY
Galit ,   NY   (08.27.08)
and was called a "slut" by a man with his wife and three young children, I got upset and was ready to start something when my father told me to calm down, and that maybe I shouldn't wear such tiny shorts and a tight shirt on such an obviously religious street. Respect goes both ways.
47. Who said it was a nice park?
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (08.27.08)
"We heard it was a nice park and wanted to spend time there," Who said that? Maybe some seculars were saying it's nice because no Arabs or Haredim?
48. CONGRATULATIONS
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (08.27.08)
To Ynet and all the media outlets and other institutions , that constantly demonize and incite hatred towards the religious people. Now we have reached the level of hatred of Europe and during the Hellenist period which resulted in the Bar Kochba revolution. When reading all the TB's from the simpletons that spew their religious hatred , as result from the Israeli proganda machine, progroms and beatings can not be far off now. The divide is only getting bigger and deeper, there is no connection between Jews and Israelis who worship their vulgar and failed culture. One can only hope that soon the system that has created this Isreali disaster will be gone.
49. If this was my family
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (08.27.08)
We would have invited the seculars to sit down and join us, share our food and have a friendly conversation. When you get to know a person you find out that you have a lot more in common than you think.
50. #37 - Adam from Tel Aviv
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (08.27.08)
your fanatical interpretation of religion is not going to define my life. You have missed the point, which is: disagree with how I live my life, fine. But don't try to tell me I cannot congregate on public streets or in parks in this country. Nobody, gay, straight, religious or secular has that right, and anybody who tries to is a garden variety bully. You may try to masquerade as a holy person but you are still just a bully.
51. Sad--very sad
Hilda ,   US   (08.27.08)
It is indeed very sad when a family, religious or not can't take their children on a picnic in the park. That some Haredim harass secular for their immoral behaviousr is no excuse for this. They were not bothering anyone. If Jews can;t get along with eac other how can they expect to live in oeace with Arabs. My guess is that these abusers would hae prefered to coexist with Arabs.
52. #49 Kyle is,as always,exercising the hability
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (08.27.08)
to summarize all in very few words.
53. They should not be intimidated.
Ploni ,   USA   (08.27.08)
They should go back with police escort if need be and enjoy what is their right just as much as the seculars. And for those posting how the charedim do this and that to seculars, I dont see what that has to do with this family not bothering anybody except a bunch of bigots living there.
54. Secular Picnic in Mea Shearim
Mark ,   USA   (08.27.08)
If a secular Israeli family tried to picnic in a Mea Shearim park, the Haredi wouldn't yell at them, they'd throw stones. It's a shame that this family had to experience this but maybe they can go back to their community and preach tolerance and inclusion.
55. thank you #3
yossi ,   nyc   (08.27.08)
56. #42 Charles & Simon don't believe in God,yet waste their
days attacking those ,   who do.   (08.27.08)
57. Shame on those who forced the
mr ,   israel   (08.27.08)
religous family from having a picnic ! Did this really occur ? G-d bless the orthodox, they keep the faith.
58. No comment
Sagi ,   Israel   (08.27.08)
59. To #33 - You'd understand if you live here...
A Jew ,   Israel   (08.27.08)
...That we're not anti-semitic towards the traditional Jew, the traditional Jew in Israel has become what anti-semites have demononized us as for hundreds of years - they only care baout themselves, they don't serve in the military, work, pay taxes, and still manage to find themselves in all kinds of sticky corruption and crime cases. They're playing their own country for fools, but this time, it's a country of their brethren and they spit in our faces every single day. Come live here and then try and comment.
60. Yo Yo , learn to read my TB's , and try to understand
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.27.08)
