1. Very good points.
(09.05.08)
2. It is not an eye for an eye
Jared ,   Stillwater   (09.05.08)
That is an eye for a million eye.
3. As if they are not treated that way....?!?!?!?
Palestine Forever ,   Bethlehem   (09.05.08)
4. They are holding Gilad Shalit
vered ,   israel   (09.05.08)
Why should any of them be protected? They are holding him, unheard of that we would even deal with them while they are holding him.
5. our leaders are BLUNT
empathy   (09.05.08)
All they do is blah blah blah No understanding for Gilad & family No serious effort being done to release the poor soldier - two years long in hell . He's deprived of any medical help, no visit of Red Cross etc. But our lousy leaders enable all those things to terrorists !!!
6. This is crazy
Sam ,   USA   (09.05.08)
I have not seen this kind of ridiculous and juvenile journalism on any other site, how do these people who write such articles get the job? His argument is insanely ridiculous, i would have thought a 6th grader wrote this. It again proves that the lives of Israels are worth more than that of Palestinians, imprison the whole gaza so that your soldier can see the light of day
7. Cautious vs extreme
Israeli lover ,   Sydney, Australia   (09.05.08)
My word, this was written in such extreme language and advocating such extreme--and dare I say--draconian measures. A whole people cannot be punished for one crime. What Palestinian terrorists did was heinous, yes; but for Israel to react in this proposed manner would be more heinous still.
8. Fight Terror With Terror - NOW!
marlene ,   Philadelphia, USA   (09.05.08)
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! How about body parts for body parts? How about taking back the land the terrorist comes from after demolishing his home? How about kidnapping terrorists? How about evicting arab muslim occupiers from Israeli land? How about it, Israel?
9. Gilad Shalit
Avi Levin ,   Omer Israel   (09.05.08)
I whole heartedly agree !!!!!History has shown on numerous occasions that weakness leads to no results, while strength is what is needed to secure results.Let us not forget with whom we are dealing and what their policy to us is.
10. but those are 1.5 million eyes
(09.05.08)
11. Gilad Shalit has been denied his human rights
Free Israeli   (09.05.08)
And the Gazans are responsible for refusing to even allow a Red Cross visit for more than 2 years. Hamas is demanding thousands of prisoners for one innocent young Israeli soldier who was kidnapped from Israeli territory via a tunnel dug for this purpose. When it comes to prisoners we hold, the Arabs shriek and wail if their people - not kidnapped remember - but terrorists and common criminals dont get enough family visits, telephone calls and all the rest of it. An eye for an eye is not the point, natural justice is the point.
12. Great , Uri ! it has to be so .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.05.08)
You want something gazans ? begin to give us Shalit , no quassams . It would be better that we close all the crossings , untill they free Shalit .
13. But That Means...
Terry ,   Chicago, IL   (09.05.08)
That the Palestinians should murder hundreds of Israelis in bloody massacres as 'retaliation' and starve them near to death as a means of 'self-defense'. Wait, on another note: why is Gilad Shalit's capture more appalling than the abduction and imprisonment of over 13,000 Palestinian men, women and children??? Wasn't it Gandhi who once said: "an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind"..? Oh, I forgot: Israeli Jews 'never forget'. They never forgive or show compassion either.
14. Eye for Eye
Josef Jesmore ,   Tene Judea Israel   (09.05.08)
Excellent approach, biblical solution that the Palestinians can understand. It is far time to make sure that they understand peace/or war is in their hands, They are reponsible for the choice and consequences. 45 years ago most of these poeple were not herem the king of Jordan/Egypt controlled the land on there side of the green line. Their occuping Arab brothers did not treat them as well as Israel. We should hold them to biblical rules; doesn't the Quran say the same as out Torah? No more one hand tied behind our back; maybe 1000 Hamas prisonors would get their attension. Shalom Eye for Eye Josef
15. Let it really be an eye for an eye, then
David L.   (09.05.08)
If we are to follow the brilliant principle defended by this author, let it really be an eye for an eye: this means Israel should select 1 palestinian, preferably a member of their security force (to be equal with a soldier), and keep him in captivity under the same conditions Shalit is. That would really be an eye for an eye.
16. I also agree with this writer.
Steve ,   US   (09.05.08)
Collective responsibility certainly appears to be a principle in the Torah; in the Jewish Bible.
17. # 13 Try Exaggerating in the Future.
Bill ,   US   (09.05.08)
Arab captives can be visited by international organizations and their health and condition confirmed. Not so with Jews held by Arabs. Secondly, when was there ever a massacre when hundreds of Arabs were killed by Israelis? And when was there a case of an Arab starving to death? That you feel compelled to exaggerate their plight makes me think there's no plight worth mentioning.
18. !!!!!!!!!!!
Ali ,   Gaza   (09.05.08)
what a crazy level of details I red in this article !!.. eye for eye means one thing only : you release all the palestinian prisoners then Palestinians will release Shalit !!.full stop.
19. Terry 13: You need to study a little US history
Steve ,   US   (09.05.08)
Maybe you are not familiar with U.S. President Andrew Jackson and his Indian wars. Jackson's visage can be found on the twenty dollar bill. Perhaps you are not familiar with the outright theft and despoliation of Indian lands by White Eurpean settlers. Have you heard of the 1830 Indian Removal Act or the Trail of Tears? Our American forebears had no compassion on Native Americans. These five civilized tribes were mercilessly expelled en mass from their ancient lands; expelled west of the Mississippi river. American racism made this a reality.. If Israeli Jews were anything like the Americans, there would be no Arabs living in Israel following the several wars of Muslim-Arab aggression. You claim the Jews never show compassion. I would submit the Jews show too much compassion.
20. Absolutely!
Kim ,   Israel   (09.05.08)
They may miss a whole school year - Gilad's family have not seen their son for a whole two years plus!!!!
21. For Ali, # 18
Michael ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (09.05.08)
Then by your own admission, one Israeli soldier equals thousands of terrorists and criminals. Don't you think that signifies a terrible inferiority complex? What does your therapist say about this?
22. So we should treat ALL Israelis as they treat our prisoners?
Palestinian ,   Gaza City   (09.05.08)
I understand it's a Friday evening, but what on Earth is this guy doing writing for a major publication like Ynet??
23. This article is a sign of impotence
Doron ,   TA, MafiaCity   (09.05.08)
an eye for an eye, tit for tat, my brother is bigger than yours Uri, grow up and think like a human being
24. AMEN
EG ,   USA   (09.05.08)
perhaps we should have instituted such a policy a while back
25. Nonsense
pipistro ,   Italy   (09.06.08)
Not worth the bytes.
26. WHY?!?
Aaron ,   far away from Uri   (09.06.08)
there's supposedly some higher goal of getting peace in the middle east, that is undeniably the best solution to all of these problems. unfortunately, hawkish, vengeful, and deranged idiots keep screwing that up. I don't get why you think the response to terrorism is terrorism. Why not hold tons of Palestinians hostage and make outrageous demands for the Palestinian government if the Palestinians do so, eh? I don't get why it is that you think Israel, being such a good, nice democracy should resort to tactics that are agreeably evil and against international law. Do the intellectual community a favor and stop writing.
27. Don't Stop There!
Johan Odin ,   Oslo, Norway   (09.06.08)
If you are going for eye for an eye Uri, then you need to start bulldozing Israeli towns with 10-minute notice, and lets not forget the curfews to lock Israelis in their homes while so a few Palestinians can travel through their towns, and of course the water supply to Israeli towns will have to be reduced by 90% and occasionally cut off altogether without notice along with the power, and of course Israeli land will have to be taken to make way for Palestinian settlements inside of Israel, and the list goes on. Lets make it truly equal Uri, you blathering bigoted buffoon.
28. At long last,
(09.06.08)
someone spoke of something sensible and useful. I am all for it.
29. Eye for an Eye
Edgy ,   Cedarhurst, USA   (09.06.08)
An 'eye for an eye' bespeaks 'tit for tat'. Israel and all who defend themselves from terror should respond with disproportionate overwhelming force. Parity maintains the status quo. Instead, Israel and all who are defending themselves from Islamic terror should bring the fight to the enemy and bring to bear overwhelming force.
30. Uri go back to the middle ages, you belong there
David ,   London, UK   (09.06.08)
such mentality only brings more threat on Shalit's life and more stubbornness in the negotiations
