It is basic ahavat yisrael to not discriminate. It is sad that he has to write of Ashkenazi institutions. I hope that everyone listens to him.

Zvi   (09.19.08)
Very wise words: "If they are weak, we must make them stronger through their studies. Please, do not sin against the child, because from each child a new world will rise. Our sages said 'care for sons of the poor who the will read the Torah, for you will not know who will succeed.'"
9. #1 DO YOU LIVE HERE?
expat okie ,   israel   (09.19.08)
Most of us Olim want to live in a homeland where our color and religion are not discriminated against. We want to be here and be israelis. Those Olim who dont are obvious to everyone and VERY white. They are only here because their own countries have worse economies than ours. So dont judge us of color. Shame on the religious communities for promoting sinat hinam, baseless hatred! Is it any wonder most israelis are turned off by the religious? We must reach out to one another with love and understanding!!!

of Ephiopian Jews. Dear Rabbi, please, include in your call also Russian Jews, not Christians, but normal Jews who are also discriminated in every possible way in only Jewish country in the World. Please, stop hate, ignorance and arrogance in our country.
15. STOP! NOW! PLEASE!
Gabriel ,   Brazil   (09.20.08)
One doesn't need to be a Freud to realize that discrimination of such level as it's seen in Israel nowadays stems from trauma at best(?), ignorance and self-hatred at worst. Discrimination is wrong at any level and surely has no place in Judaism or the Jewish people. Fear G-d, love thy neighbor. Stop the 'enemy' mentality which nurtures this warmongering system. I've been there. It's tuff to live in Israel, being Jewish, everyone around me wants to backstab me, bla, bla, GET OVER IT! Be strong for G-d needs you to be. Don't discriminate your fellow human! Don't discriminate your fellow arab semite, it will always be tears for the people and money for the (mis)leaders! And above all, Don't discriminate your Jewish brethren!! Be it Russian or Ethiopian, Sabra or convert, dati or secular! Sorry, but I had to lay it out of my Jewish chest. Let's GET REAL or may G-d have mercy on Israel... Again...
16. Racism
shrinkDave ,   miami usa   (09.20.08)
Is there a more racist sector of Israel, than the black Hats? Where does one go to find the highest level of intolerance in Israel? Ultra religiousity equals racism; it has to, to keep control over its' own automotons.
17. Rabbi Amar
Ben ,   Monroe, USA   (09.23.08)
Rabbi, most thinking people certainly agree that discrimination vis a vis the Ethopians is racism and shouldn't be tolerated. Yet we see quite clearly here for a little girl to be permitted to enroll in a religious school with little boys(first graders) becomes a cause celebre. Just what's the difference? Discrimination based on color is really no different than discrimination based on sex. If you wish to carry this to the next step, try to enroll a child of Ashkanazi parents in a Sephardi school or for that matter the opposite still holds true. It is factual that religious discrimination of one Jewish group towards another Jewish group remains alive and well.
18. #11: #10 couldn't be a Jew...TOO STUPID!
(09.24.08)
19. TO #16: YOU BETTER RECOGNIZE...
(09.24.08)
CAN'T YOU SEE THAT THEY ARE NOW TRYING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. AND STILL YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GAME OF BLAME. WHY CAN' T YOU APPRECIATE?
20. It's a little bigger than that.
Marcus ,   Alexandria, USA   (05.21.09)
Discrimination is discrimination, yes, but you have to fight discrimination little step at a time. It could start out this way, and change to another form of discrimination like gender or type of Judaism practiced. That point isn't they're discriminating based on skin color, the overarching point is that it's a institution that is partaking in some kind of discrimination. Having a institution who is furthering the religion, actively discriminating doesn't help to represent judaism in a positive sense. And an institution that is discriminating against people who WANT to expand their knowledge and practice of Judaism doesn't help.
