3. The story behind the scope

I was rather surprised to hear that the scope had gone missing. I refurbished the planetarium at Givat Ram in 1987 and the telescope was on exhibit in the main hall at that time.
It is an 8 inch Newtonian refractor on an equatorial mount (no drive). It's evidently homemade.
From what I understand, a friend made it for Einstein when he was at Princeton. He had told the friend, "From when I was a child, I have always wanted a telescope, but now if I buy one, it will become commercialised." So the friend, an amateur astronomer, built him this scope.
I hope it finally gets the attention it deserves!
