Can anyone give us a brief description of the physical dimensions of Einstein's telescope recently found in Jerusalem?
3. The story behind the scope
Yael Shahar ,   Israel   (09.22.08)
I was rather surprised to hear that the scope had gone missing. I refurbished the planetarium at Givat Ram in 1987 and the telescope was on exhibit in the main hall at that time. It is an 8 inch Newtonian refractor on an equatorial mount (no drive). It's evidently homemade. From what I understand, a friend made it for Einstein when he was at Princeton. He had told the friend, "From when I was a child, I have always wanted a telescope, but now if I buy one, it will become commercialised." So the friend, an amateur astronomer, built him this scope. I hope it finally gets the attention it deserves! -Yael
4. Correction to telescope description
Yael Shahar ,   Israel   (09.24.08)
Correction: the scope is an 8-inch reflector, rather than a refractor.
