religious exemption; but those who really do observe the Shabbat are protecting Israel, too. The Prophet Jeremiah said Jerusalem would continue to exist as long as the Shabbat is kept. So at some point in the near future, people in Jerusalem will depart from that Commandment of the Lord because the Prophet Micah (chapter 3 verse 12 in Authorized King James Version Bible) says Jerusalem will become heaps. Osaoaj 3:8 also describes Jerusalem as ruined. I hope that has already happened from the Roman attack, but it could be yet future. Jerusalem will be called the city of righteousness (Isaiah 1:26) when the judges are restored which may be now since Israel is a democracy, not a theocracy or kingdom. There are many in Jerusalem who observe the Shabbat and try diligently to obey the Commandments which I hope means Jerusalem is now the city of righteousness. Yeshua said not one stone of the temple would remain standing at some point. Some think that happened in 70 A.D. (C.E.) when Titus destroyed the Temple, but others think that is yet future because there are stones of the Western Wall (Kotel) still standing. If the religious Jews stay in Jerusalem and continue observing the Shabbat, God has to abide by His promise to preserve the city because Malachi said the Lord changes not. The Lord promised Jerusalem would continue as long as the Shabbat is kept, so He has to keep his word. That is a great defense from enemies and the IDF does well to exempt those who protect Israel by obeying the Shabbat and other Commandments although the IDF needs the religious on ships and in many places as a protection or shield. But many IDF are religious even though they serve in the IDF which is a protection for Israel.

zznhl   (09.25.08)
We spend millions a year on the military police, new equipment, new moter bikes etc. but we still have to resort to a free internet program to catch these skivers! what a disgrace.
3. Shame on you
(09.25.08)
If you are religious this should not exempt you fro mthe army or to do your sherut laam everyone needs to give the country something back boys and girls no difference
4. Hardly surprising.
Tahl ,   Israel   (09.25.08)
While boys have to endure three rough years of uneasy service, girls have a much easier time in the army, have much more interesting options to choose from (as they are not automatically destined for combat duty), serve for shorter period, and don't do reserve duty. And yet, all these perks are not enough for some of them... So they lie about their religious habits and get exempted. I'm very happy this deadbeat was caught.
5. dont lie - Big Brother is here!

6. Thelma Yellin High School is hardly for Haredim!
Talula ,   Israel   (09.25.08)
Good news - Enlist her - make her do her full army service!!!
7. to number 1 - stop the blah, blah
Jerry ,   Israel   (09.25.08)
Some ultraorthodox have no problem serving in the army. Enlist all people, religious or not and one won't have to be searching for dodgers under religious pretenses.
8. #1 Shut up Rikva!!!

9. #1 the most pathetic exscuse i have ever heard
Avi ,   Ramat Gan   (09.25.08)
Do me a favor, what a pathetic excuse. Who asked the charideem to pray for our souls? They do not accept the rules of the game - equal work, equal pay and equal duties. They said, 'No, we have a special status in which we do not work and we do not pay taxes and we do not defend the country; you defend it for us. Sorry but we have had enough of these religious parasites!
10. Religious exemptions
Israeli grandmother   (09.25.08)
Its not well known, but some religiously observant girls do serve in the army. However, the social situation in today's Tzahal makes it very difficult for a modest girl with a religious life-style to deal with the hiloni atmosphere and often gross disrespect shown to women by the male troops.
11. Why?
Helena ,   Finland   (09.25.08)
I don´t understand why being religious is a reason to skip the army, especially in Israel. I just read the book of Joshua. God didn´t say that if you believe in me and keep my commandments, you can rest meanwhile other people will go to take the land and fight the enemies. Do religious people think it is right that atheists sacrifice their lives for religious people? Shouldn´t it rather be vice versa?
12. Being religious shouldnt make u exempt
Mother of hayelet ,   Israel   (09.25.08)
You live in israel then you should contribute to it wellbeing and serving in the army is one way to contribute. Im sure that there are jobs that religious girls can partake that will neither offend them or their privacy. Sherut Leumi is a good way to get them active and contributing in the community. Im glad the IDF has decided not to accept religious excuses on face value.
13. National Service for ALL is past due!
Arie ,   BaGolan   (09.25.08)
All citizens, whether Jew Arab Bahai or other, regardless of religion or extent of their faith, should be obligated to engage in National Service. That does not mean all should be drafted to Tzahal. However, there are other avenues. There is a need for teachers, cleaners, road workers, aid in all communities - all would qualify and all should be required. Being haredi or arab should be no excuse. National assistance, whether it be school, health, welafare, housing assistance, all should be prohibited from assisting those that will not serve! Citizenship has responsibilities - all are obligated
14. Women should not be in the ARMY anyway
Yitzchak ,   Yerushalyim   (09.25.08)
This is shameful use of Social Networking why are they not chasing the Men!
15. Draft all Charedim and leave women out!
Yosef   (09.25.08)
Women should not be in the army they should instead draft all Charedi males.
16. Maybe a year or two in danger will make her religious.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.25.08)
17. It is so easy to walk into the rabinute
jason white ,   afula,israel   (09.25.08)
and get a letter saying they are religious. A choice army service or prison in a forced labor camp. Make sure they do three years in prison for each year of army service!
18. Draft
Marilyn ,   USA   (09.25.08)
I'm not quite sure of the situation in Israel. For example what are the reasons given for avoidance? Is it because they have theological objections to warfare? If so, then Israel should have the special programs for them, so that they won't feel left out or excluded and as a means for them to make a difference and investment in their country.
19. Doesnt matter who we draft!
czech republic   (09.25.08)
for Hezbollah will send them back in boxes.
20. draft dodgers
robert barrett ,   fort smith arkansas   (10.01.08)
Shame on those selfish self centered girls for lying to set out of serving in the best military in the world. They should be kicked out of Israel if they do not repent. What a horrible legacy they will have to pass onto their kids and grandchildren as draft dodgers. Shame, shame and shame on you!
