You write: "What makes you think this man will be any different than Bush or Obama?” My answer to you is because McCain desperately is trying to "detach himself" from the Bush administration whose claim to fame has been to single-handedly bring down the U.S. economy, a Bush administration that has been very detrimental to the State of Israel from day one. Ok, maybe McCain is less flamboyant and fast talking than Obama but he looks at you straight in the eyes when he talks of reforms, of changes. He just seem more ethical than Obama, not counting his wider experience of American and foreign politics. He just seems the right fit to bring back America to its former glory with actions rather than hopes and dreams like his younger counterpart. Wishful thinking is better left to fiction books.

Guy   (09.28.08)
American Jews like radical-leftists all over the world care about their leftist-radical agenda more than they care about being Jewish, or more than they care about the US of America or Israel.
35. #23 - Someone hasn't kept up on their bible...
Max ,   Seattle, Wa   (09.28.08)
Ok, now I know that the bible isn't respected by all as a religious document (which I believe is inspired by God). But even as a historical reference, it has proven itself to be correct in it's prophecies time and time again. The bible is quite clear that Israel's condition (And existence) is important and especially so in the end times. I personally believe that the US's position regarding Israel is one of the last counterbalances tied to many of the end time events. The US's position is not terribly clear in the end times (some argue it is the Eagle's Wings mentioned, while others say that the US won't even exist). Nevertheless, let us not forget where this country (the US) originated from. It has been founded and has been a Christian nation. However, in recent years (last 50 to 60) the US has begun to very quickly slip away from it base of Faith - turning towards perverse practices, even to the degree of embracing them openly. The root of the US's future does NOT rely on the president of our country, no, it relies on whether or not we keep God as the center of our nation.

Jason, I am getting so sick I could puke with all this "hero" stuff. I am a 100% disabled Vietnam vet. I was wading through rice paddys with my M-14 while McCain was buzzing around in his plush aircraft. He was stupid enough to let a few jungle fighters shoot him out of the air and then was in a prison camp. What is so heroic about that? Is he a hero because he was captured? Give me a break. What he did in serving his country deserves honor an respect but he is no more a hero than thousands of others who actually fought on the ground. What about all of this garbage makes him qualified to be president? If he is qualified by his failures then how much more qualified are thousands of others who actually made it through ground fighting without getting captured and without destroying a plane which cost the taxpayers millions of dollars. I am an independent. I don't think either of the choices are fit to be the leader of this nation, but if I am wrong and McCain is worthy and able, it certainly isn't because of his military record.

David ,   USA   (09.28.08)
Speak for yourself Caleb. You don't speak for me. Don't use "we" when you talk about Israel. I CARE. and there are millions in America who DO CARE. And if you have any brains at all in your head, you had better start caring. If you are smart enough to look at the condition of things on the world scene right now you will see that things are shaping up for a third world war and it is all aimed at Israel, by Israel haters like yourself. It is not too late to get on the right side of this Caleb. Your namesake did.

Steve, you are spot on. Do not vote for ANY evil. The moral thing to do is to refuse to participate in this worldly mess. Ginette, Perhaps you can see our doctor and get something to wake you out of this mental slumber you are in. You better wake up soon. McCain will get us nuked.
39. Yoram Ettinger says Vote for McCain
M. Martin ,   MYC/Tel-Aviv   (09.28.08)
That is basically when this article says to American citizens in Israel or American Jews who read YNet. Makes me wonder if this guy is on the McCain campaign's payroll or something.

Your calling Ambassador Ettinger a demagogue is a cheap shot. He may be wrong in some of his assumptions. So? Who made you a judge of character, a judge of demagoguery, much less a judge of whether there is or is not a God? Who made you a judge of Islamic Islamic history? Who made you a judge Smith?

You say McCain is different from Bush because McCain desperately is trying to "detach himself" from the Bush administration whose claim to fame has been to single-handedly bring down the U.S. economy, a Bush administration that has been very detrimental to the State of Israel from day one...." Yet Bush is one of America's most unpopular presidents in American history. Why wouldn't McCain desperately try to detach himself from an extremely unpopular U.S. president? My problem with John McCain is John McCain refuses to detach himself from Bush's vision to dismember and destroy Israel. Bush, McCain and Obama, all want to establish a Muslim terror state in the Holy Land. This is Bush's "vision" for Israel. They all support Israel's destruction. Tthey have puppet - traitors like Ariel Sharon, Ehud Olmert and Tzipy Livni do their bidding. McCain had this immoral Bush "vision" codified in the Republican national party platform last month over objections of at least one member of the platform writing committee. Bush, McCain and Obama each want to appease the Muslim-Arab oil producing world at Israel's expense. White Europeans overspread the North American continent, expelling, displacing, despoiling Native Americans as they went. Who is complaining about these American depredations today? Not me. Just leave the Jews alone! . It's our land! And yet they want to give Jewish land to America's and Israel's enemies. If it means the destruction of Israel, so be it. Why should I vote for this next month? Why shouldn't I turn the page?

43. #15 Steve, Clinton was president during the first attack
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (09.27.08)
February 26, 1993, when Clinton was President, a Ryder truck filled with explosives was planted by Ramzi Yousef and detonated in the garage of the N. World Trade Center tower killing 6 and leaving 50,000 other workers and visitors gasping for air. The "success" of the 1st WTC attack inspired Bin Laden and his followers to come up with a bigger and better attack on America. George Bush was President for 8 months when they attacked on 911. The terrorists had planned and trained for years before 911. They did not know if Bush or Gore was going to be president and they did not care.
44. none of the above
ben Ish   (09.28.08)
The number one disqualification for any candidate, is the fact that they want the office in the first place. And stop blaming the entire mess on GWB because he happens to be in office. It's not like any president can do whatever he wants. Otherwise you can blame Clinton for pushing home-ownership for everyone, whether they can afford it or not. Thus we wound up with tens of thousands of buyers doomed to foreclosure, because a liberal administration insisted that business provide an avenue for them to buy. With that in place, it was greed by every person all up and down the ladder: The buyer wants a house he cant afford. The appraiser wants his percentage, as well as both realtors. The lendors want mortgages they can package and sell, investment firms estimate they can turn over securities fast enough to make a buck. Fannie Mae etc., pay off Dodd, Clinton and Obama to keep the whole thing going... Every single person, every step of the way was greedy, regardless of political party.
45. 23 Caleb: It was CLINTON who created the mess with
Rivkah   (09.28.08)
affirmative action loans to people who could not pass a normal financial accountability check. It was CARTER who deregulated the banks. It was CLINTON who sold off the strategic oil reserves to artificially boost the economy and put America at risk if there was a war or shortage. BUSH had to replenish the strategic oil reserves at great expense to protect America and he kept the terrorists attacks to one in America in 2001. But to you, that is a problem. By the way, Kade Hawkins' Sept. 26 newsletter warned that Islamic websites are talking about an October 7, 2008 nuclear attack by radical Islamics on New York City and Washington, D.C. after Ramadan. If you don't care about Israel, what are you doing at YNET?
46. We"re not all this ignorant really
Kathryn ,   Tx-USA   (09.27.08)
To the poor fool who commented "who cares about Israel" I can only guess that you are either very young or ignorant. I am an american-I am not a Jew, but I do recognize that Israel represents one of the only democracies in the mid east. Who cares, they say? Perhaps when you or someone you care about has been blown to bits by a dirty bomb from the lunatics that want to wipe Israel off the map-then you'll care. You might as well have said "who cares " about the holocost? I'm so tired of the "it's all about me" attitude that so many americans seem to think they are entitled to. Those who do not learn from the mistakes in history are doomed to repeat them. Grow up
47. so little understanding
Kathryn ,   Tx, USA   (09.28.08)
The power (and corruption) lies in the Senate and the house. Democrat at present. It's also not so much a case of "this party is to blame" or "that party" It's individual greed on the part of the house and senate (as I believe McCain mentioned in the debate). Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and these senators and representatives are being paid MILLIONS to pass legislation Remember the "rock the vote" movement a few years back?? They had the right idea. I will go on the record right now as saying there will be no real solution to this economic crisis-but it's past the point of fixing. NO "world power" civilization in history (including Rome) has lasted with the type of corruption we have in the US. I've worked in mortgage banking over 21 years-and have some very good friends in high positions with the Federal Reserve (which, btw is NOT a government entity-but a private bank). Have been telling my friends for last couple weeks to get their investments out-and big surprise! Today Wachovia is in the headlines as the next big bank to fail. Citibank (which was on the brink of failing last year) got their money from where? Foreign banks. Who is buying up large percentages of the treasury auctions? Foreign banks. Who owns lions shares of many of our big business-Foreign banks. Bottom line on economy: The 700billion dollar bailout is simply a stop gap method. It won't nearly be enough. It doesn't even address the banks that are failing. And the FDIC isn't far behind those failing banks. I think they have about 45 billion to work with....the WaMu failing alone was 309 Billion. One of the oldest banks out there too. If Chase hadn't bought it at the fire sale price of 1.9billion-the FDIC would have run out of money-and then of course the liberals would scream for the government to fix it. The natural order is boom and bust. It's bust time. When people scream at our government to bail them out of an economic crisis I want to say-great. Get out your checkbook and start writing checks. WE are the governemnt. THEY aren't writing checks out of THEIR accounts-they are promising it out of ours. I'm a terminal cancer patient who HAS insurance and is still facing financial ruin. It's sad-but it's not my RIGHT to have someone bail me out. No one has those kinds of rights. We are lucky enough to live in a country where we have the right to TRY to do better (as does our friend Israel). Many countries do not allow their citizens that right. No one is entitled to free money-I don't care who you are. It's that attitude that has gotten us at the brink of economic collapse-and yes, I do believe that we will very soon, become a third world country. Everyone is so intent on asserting their personal rights and saying "we must fund this/we must help all these..." that we are now effectively bankrupt. People will lose jobs. Small investors are losing all their savings, so they won't be able to "retire", what used to be everyday commodities will become unaffordable-Companies will be owned by the chinese..the japanese...the saudi's..and the "great depression" will seem like a garden party. Now let's add nuclear war into the mix.... I'm not overly thrilled with either candidate...but I did read an interesting observation about Obama that I would like to read more on. This essay was dealing with the fact that his father was Muslim and likened it to being born in a Jewish family (perhaps our Jewish readers can educate us on the accuracy of the next statement). It said that basically...If your birth mother was Jewish...you were considered Jewish. The opinion went on the say that the Muslims hold a similar ideal....in that if your birth father was a Muslim-you were considered Muslim. It then suggests that with Obama declaring himself now to be a christian, he might actually have made himself an "apostate" (traitor). And he thinks the crazy regime in Iran is going to listen to him? Right.....

Cabel, Houston, TX 1. Why are you reading an Israeli newspaper if Israel is not important? 2. Both candidates are interested in " America first and foremost" however foreign policy is an important part of any potential president's program. In case you don't recall 9-11, the radical Muslim world present a real threat to the U.S. and as Israel is in the forefront of the conflict with this common enemy, Israel automatically becomes an important part of the debate. 3. If you can't use 'spellcheck', try to check what you have written before submitting it!
51. yaron
robin ,   israel   (09.28.08)
Yaron, so far, no one has been able to pick up any dirt on Obama, which certainly the Republicans, who are the best at this, would have picked up by now. He worked with Black communities, really didn't even want to go to Harvard, but was pushed by the very people he helped. Slick implies saying one thing and doing another. Please state instances where he has done this. Israelis and those who only read headlines don't like him because of his name . . . Please it would have been easier for him to change it, and that would have been concealment, but he has been upfront all the time.
52. Using Israel
concerned ,   Bethlehem   (09.28.08)
McCain's use of Israel as a "strategic ally" is just that: he is using Israel for his own purposes, hijacking the control of Israeli citizens over their own country to ensure more death and conflict for years to come. McCain should not be allowed to "use" Israel at all.
53. US election
Nahrain Al yasseri ,   International low   (09.28.08)
How funny is that? Calling upon the American tax payers to take an action from a state who have ‘celebrated’ 60 years of occupation of others’ land, 60 years of dispossession of other people, 60 years of terror against civilians and 60 years of neglecting every single thing the international community has asked for.
54.  A True leader
Proud American ,   Israel   (09.28.08)
A True leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. HE doesn't set out to be a leader but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent... Gen. Mc Arthur Now who does this describe? Sounds like McCain to me!
55. #35 - End of Times?

" "The root of the US's future does NOT rely on the president of our country, no, it relies on whether or not we keep God as the center of our nation." This is insane. This sounds like the type of rhetoric that the taliban would use. Talking about Israel as part the fulfillment of a 2000 year old prophecy is worrying in the extreme.

First of all, I am sad to hear that you returned from Vietnam a disabled man...I wish I could have a magic wand for you and all others V.A. As for McCain, you are absolutely right, there is nothing heroic to have your plane shut down, get caught and imprisoned. What is heroic is that he had the opportunity to leave that hell hole in Viet Nam early and return to the safety of America, instead, he passed on the offer and let soldiers (I don't know how many) who were there longer take his spot on that plane. And by all counts, that's heroic and unselfish. My head is just fine and does not need to be examined, mostly by U.S. doctors; I would lose my life's savings on MRI's and consultations. When you say the "the moral thing to do is to refuse to participate in this worldly mess". I can tell you that it is impossible for ALL American to boycott the elections, it just won't happen. So we go back the lesser of two evils and lean towards McCain. And if he gets America nuked as you put it, and I would stake my life it won’t happen, then “que sera, sera” # 30 Sheikh yer Bu'Tay , is right in one statement "New bumper sticker: WE'RE SCREWED '08! " I wish the World all the best. Hag Sameah!
58. # 41, Steve
Ginette ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.28.08)
Why should you vote? Because unfortunately these are the only two choices. I was in Chicago (in September) during both conventions, I heard first the Obama convention and it felt like a whole mess of People were together in a hot air balloon ready to explode. They were "swallowing up" the (empty) words of "his reverence Obama". Just like it happens when a crowd listens to an evangelist and you know how weird it looks and sounds... During the McCain (Republican) convention, all I could feel was strength coming from this man. I felt strength and honesty and straight talk. Something I did not feel for Obama's Democrat convention. Bush (whom I despise for his weakening of Israel) is no McCain by a long shot. Call me weird but I always trusted my gut feelings.
59. Ginette #58: Where is Sarah Palin?
Steve ,   Fla.   (09.28.08)
Many Jews think Sarah Palin is a Christian Zionist. Palin claims to support Israel and she reads and knows her bible. Why doesn't Governor Palin warn John McCain? Why doesn't she tell McCain that Bush has brought a curse on America because Bush has worked to steal Jewish land and give it to our enemies? If McCain were a man of strength and courage, why doesn't he break with Bush's immoral policies in the Middle East? Why doesn't McCain announce he will reject Bush's evil plans to destroy Israel? No. John McCain, like Bush, also seeks to dismember and destroy Israel. He is on record. How can I vote for him? Only because Obama is worse?
60. I always thought Jews were smart
Steve G ,   Kew Gardens,NYC   (09.29.08)
This unquestioned support for McCain's loopy economic, domestic and foreign policies is beyond my understanding. His choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate alone should warn you off this guy. His regime would bring down the U.S. in the finale of incompetence, greed and lies foisted on the world's greatest power by George Bush, who is now undoubtedly the worst presidentt in U.S. history. From personal rights to wasting lives to unwise wars to totally inept foreign policy to completely devastating the economy, Bush has earned his place on the bottom. McCain has half his talent and all of his beliefs. Plus, when Sarah Palin takes over for the 75 year-old- McCain in year three of his term, what will we do then? Her religious beliefs include the destruction of Israel and God telling the U.S., to build pipelines and declare wars. If you support someone like that, you have lost any touch with reality. Jews in the U.S. will be voting for Obama. That is because he will do the best job...and be a firm ally of Israel.
