An article of greatness,Professor Sternhell will not answer being to pigheaded and obnosious.Professor Sternhell preaches to those whom have been spoonfed from childbirth and have never acquired the sence of responsibility to-ward acceptance of democracy. Your proposed date is a extended period which must also be utilised by professor Sternhell to lower himself from the ladder he attempted to climb before the realisation that he is afraid of heights.
2. Wohl: Damn, youre good!

3. A question for Assaf
Arie ,   BaGolan   (09.29.08)
There is still NO evidence or real suggestion as to where the alleged attack originated: Was it a right-wing plot?; was it a left-wing conspiracy in an attempt to regain the sympathy they have lost from most Israelis?; was it an attack by the PA/Fatah in an attempt to strengthen the 1%ers led by livni as querei did in the recent 1%er primary? Before we attack the right-wing of Israel, maybe these basic questions should be answered by an INDEPENDENT police led by Cohen!
4. STERNELL IS A LEFTIST FASCIST !
(09.29.08)
5. Sternhell called for Palestinians to carry out terror ...
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (09.29.08)
Sternhell called for Palestinians to carry out terror actions beyond the green line. Sternhell wrote an article in Haaretz on May 11th, 2002, in which he called for Palestinians to carry out terror actions beyond the green line, which constitutes a clear case of incitement to murder. Indeed, this would be an appropriate time for Israel's law enforcement system to summon Sternhell and question him about his calls to violence which violate Israel's laws of incitement. The sad reality is that when the Israeli law enforcement system does not respond, people wrongly take the law into their own hands. About political correctness : http://xrl.us/bi5da
6. Debate is the basis of all democracy
Sheila ,   Jerusalem Israel   (09.29.08)
I agree - to my amazement - with the author. We must know to have opposing opinions without resorting to disgraceful violence. Debate, polite debate, clever debate - is the only route to democracy
7. Look back in history
Moriah ,   Sacramento, USA   (09.29.08)
Remember who the biggest inciters were. The sneaks who set up the victim for the fall - The godless Socialist/ Communists and the Facists - all who run the media and the Universiy today. They hate Israel and all who love the land - unless of course they are Arabs.
8. wise immigrants will keep their old passports
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.29.08)
this jewish zealotry/nationalism will end up same as before - the nation first loses its soul, then everything else. nothing good will come of this.
9. sorry Wohl
Smith ,   TA   (09.29.08)
i have yet to see left-wingers murder a prime minster, unleash dogs on troops, and attempt to bomb school children...... sorry Wohl the settlers are out of control and each and every day that they are not hammered is a nail in israel's coffin. you don't have to be left or right wing to recognize you can't have an armed, lawless, minority that does not recognize the legitimacy of the government and its laws run amok. we already have to deal with the arabs for god's sake.....
10. Attack only earned Sternhell more attention, sympathy
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (09.29.08)
Any who believe in decency and democracy condemn the attack on Sternhell. That he is a left wing zealot who has incited violence against some of his fellow citizens still doesn't justify the attack. But once again, the law of "unintended consequences" is evident. Sternhell has won the sympathy vote, and that of a sympathetic media. He's been given a platform to reinforce his disdain for anyone living over the line to the many who now will listen.
11. #9 Smith
Joe Fein ,   USA   (09.29.08)
Well their organizations take foreign government money to spy on Israel.
12. #9
(09.29.08)
Have you ever heard of Amona? Did you see the black-dressed Yassam troops beating little girls in Synagogue during the ethnic cleansing of Gaza? As for murdering a Prime Minister. Please tell us why Yigal Amir's best friend who called for Rabin's murder was never punished?
13. to Smith from TA
Ariel ,   Holon Israel   (09.29.08)
If I understand TA is Tel-Aviv. You are even afraid to spell it. Left wingers are No doubt are secretly paid by arabs to do what they are doing (fighting with our soldiers in Billin or Courageously demonstrating in Tel- Aviv for poor arabs in Gaza etc.etc. or filming for Bezelem-another secretly funded Arab Organization).Sternell is SOB who is also somehow is paid by Israel enemies.I do not see any other reason to hate your own people. The settlers are Israel's front line of defence. If not them the fight will be for TA(Tel-Aviv) and vicinity. Happy New Year. Am Israel Hay.
14. against settlements
Frank ,   Italy   (09.29.08)
I fully agree with Smith, #9. To be strongly against the settlements is not a matter of zealotry or left/right positions, as to quit settlements is vital for Israel in order to survive as a jewish and democratic state. I wish Mr. Wohl will use the same eagerness against those who support the widespread lawless condition of the settlers in the Territories.
15. Frank #14, you are digressing from the topic
Jake   (09.29.08)
The issue here is that Sternhell called on tanks to be used against settlements, where civilians, women, and children are resident. He called on Palestinians to concentrate their bomb attacks against the settlements, rather than on "his" side of the Green Line. Incitement to use violence against a specific genre of people is often considered in Western public discourse as a form of incitement to genocide.
16. Ya'allah NÂȘ 9
Tarek Al'Falastine ,   At your TA house   (09.30.08)
Do you live in the settlement of Tel-Aviv (belonging to palestine Yaffa). Don't you? You must leave from there, too
17. To Jake #15
Frank ,   Italy   (09.30.08)
Jake, one can say whatever he wants against what Sternhell or other people said, but I beleive that saying , as Wohl does, that the main danger for Israel are the so-called "zealots" and not the settlements is a very misleading and dangerous digression from ...reality! !
18. this attack was an inside job of the leftisits--kapos
Zippy   (09.30.08)
I wish Israel would finally see their true enemies---the left--Peace Now and most of the media. This terror and evil is more threatening and deadly from within. Recognize it, unite against it and purge it. You will have to do it quickly because your obvious enemies are circling and you need to be united. L'Shana Tova May Hashem keep you safe, courageous and clear headed
19. I for one strongly support Assaf Wohl
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.30.08)
We need to find out the truth of who attacked the professionor and punish them to the maximum extent of the law period. The professor too needs to investigated over his war-crimes. Calling for genocide is a war-crime. And yes we to do something over zealots, no matter left or right.
20. prof sternhell
alexi   (10.01.08)
How does peace work when hamas does not accept israel and when it rockets from returned lands? How when abbas and fatah are ineffective- period? How does return of golan advance peace when iran, hezbollah and syria do not accept israel, have 100,000 rockets between them and idf refuses to use its own rockets in reply? Tell me how does it work? Giving lebanon, gaza and parts of west bank have only increased terror. You tell me please how giv ing up lands reduces terror?
21. the problem is
nana ,   jerusalem   (10.01.08)
you need the power not to tell but also to listen .the professor has the strength to tell what he thinks is the truth .. but the attacker has no strength to listen to what he thinks it is untruth . . so who has the power .....
22. Open letter to Prof. Sternhel
Paul ,   Tuval Israel   (10.01.08)
I find it self defeating and morally abhorrent to read one fanatic's response to another's. The solution will be found in moderation in the end. Israel's security problems will never be solved by returning the occupied territories, as "armed resistance" to our occupation is only really a fig leaf to disguise a 60 year old pledge to drive the Jews into the sea, providing these murderers with an apparent justification. On the other hand there is no doubt that the occupation has irreparably damaged and eroded our Jewish human values, causing mutations among the national religious like Noar HaGevaot. It would be audacious of me to say I have a solution, but I do think that the first step would be to recognise this fact and by doing so, resolve to look for a solution.
23. Don't hold your breath Wohl !
(10.01.08)
Putting two extremists together is like asking a cat and a dog to cooperate. Maybe, it's much easier to convince these two animals than the two distinguished extreme wingers.
24. Paul #22
Frank ,   Italy   (10.01.08)
Paul, your approach could be in some way consistent if there were only a military occupation for security purposes in the Territories. But what the hell have the settlements to do with Israel's security? About half million israelis live beyond the green line: are they contributing to Israel's security? Or are they forcing Israel to double its efforts in order to ensure their security, without any other significant national benefit and agaist the international laws concerning occupied territories, not to mention other harmful effects? Military occupation could be a (debatable) required condition for security. Not settlements!
25. to 24
Paul Mirbach ,   Tuval Israel   (10.01.08)
In the past I have written in favour of pulling civilian settlements out of the occupied territories. However, the point is that these people are so convinced of their rightness that they have come to a point where the ends justify all the means, thereby sacrificing our jewish moral and human values on the altar of their belief. Their behaviour is a manifestation of this phenomenon. But do not delude yourself: withdrawing from the territories will not end the terrorism, but increase it, because in the end the Palestinian aim is to kill us all and drive us out of Israel. We have provided them with a perfect screen of international acceptability/understanding by occupation. The major value of withdrawal today would be to expose these racist murderers for what they really are - fanatical Muslim fascists with one goal in mind: to kill us all. Antagonising the far right or attacking the far left only serves to divide us further. The time has come to look at the situation as it is TODAY, with the settlements, as they exist for 2 generations already, and look for a solution for US to get back to our values. The 2nd temple was destroyed and we were dispersed for 2000 years last time this happened.
26. to Paul #24
Zippy   (10.01.08)
You know what would end all of this? If Jews in Israel enforced their legal and divine right to ALL of Israel. It would also be extremely helpful if you understood your rights to your own land. Do you know what the Balfour Declaration is--if not google it. This is your international legal rights to not only the "West Bank" and "Gaza" but to Jordan as well and other parts of Israel stolen by the Brits and the Arabs. Palestine is a reference to Jews in Palestine=Israel. Claim all of it because IF YOU DON'T, YOU ARE RIGHT---THE ARABS DO NOT PLAN ON DISPERSING YOU ONCE AGAIN FROM YOUR HISTORICAL AND DIVINE BIRTHRIGHT--THEY PLAN ON MURDERING ALL OF YOU---WITH GREAT HELP FROM YOUR LEFT AND TRAITOROUS POLITICIANS. kNOW YOUR RIGHTS AND PROUDLY CLAIM THEM--ISRAEL. TELL THE WORLD TO GET LOST IF THEY WON'T RESPECT INTERNATIONAL LAW--WHICH OF COURSE IS JUST A COVER UP FOR JEW HATRED---YET AGAIN
