61. Livni will need to make a fresh start
Avi   (10.01.08)
and suggestions like the ones mentioned in the article aren't the way to go. Hopefully, she has learned from those who went before her, and maybe even some history so that she may deal with what's at hand with a fresh approach. Unlike most of us, she now has a job that doesn't stop during the High Holidays. Shanah Tovah
62. The Jordanians controlled the "west bank" for 20 years!
bjl ,   us   (10.01.08)
Why didnt they restore ancient palestine to it's former nationhood? Why? They had the chance.! Because there never was a palestine, other than the Jewish, Roman forced name of palestine. Never an arab balestine. The arabs were the occupiers and still are....
63. Proof the system does not work
ben ISh   (10.01.08)
When someone like Olmert can get in office in the first place, it proves that the system does not work.
64. the very old child
sasam ,   jerusalem   (10.01.08)
we used to say to the falling child --oh you break the ground --but to the old osteoporosis woman -take care not to fall you will break your leg -- but israil is the very old child ,what should we tell about the ground ,,i thing nothing --but about the bones i think multiple complicated fractures
65. #52 history tells that you are liars
(10.01.08)
then, why did Israel call the 67 war a big preemptive strike? why did Israel chase retreating soldiers in Sinai with Napalm? to annihilate them, right? Israel wouldn't be let get away with that anymore.
66. #65. Pre-emptive strike was only against Egypt
Jake   (10.01.08)
not against Syria, Iraq, and Jordan. Israel decided to strike Egypt, after Egypt decided to blockade Israel's access to the Red Sea, which was an act of war itself (Israel only withdrew from Sinai in 1956 after receiving international guarantees that the central part of the Straits of Tiran would be regarded as inviolable international waters). By the way, if the Arab side are so confident that they are on the side of the truth, why is it that their governments have not declassified ANY of their archives EVER?

it was obvious the arabs surrounding Israel were preparing to strike. Not only that, they were saying so! If your house is surrounded by a gang that says they're going to kill you & your family, you're going to wait until they shoot first? Duh.
68. He is right 100%
Shlomo The Homo ,   Tel Aviv   (10.02.08)
He have the courage to say the truth. If that is the price for peace so be it.

the Egyptians and the Jordanians and the Palestinians are one people, but you, are an occupying colonialist power. That's the insignificant !!!!! difference you want to forget.
70. ohlmert
sas ,   israel   (10.20.08)
he should not be allowed to have meetings with foreign officials. the man belongs behind bars. he is a liar, he is corrput and a crook. i am willing to give back territories and east jerusalem but ohlmert is not the man to be in charge. I trust nothing that he says or does. He is an embarrassment to the State of Israel.
71. Golan - NO!
Larry Finklestein ,   Boston USA   (10.20.08)
In a prior post I advocated turning over the West Bank and Gaza to Palestine, as soon as Israel can have confidence in a peaceful effective government taking control, limited to border and military levels and coordination with Israel as appropriate. On the issue of the Golan, I feel different. The area was sparsley populated before 1967 and Syria is not looking for economic and political unity with Israel. Even their own people are often subject to harsh repression. It is hard to believe that Peace with Syria will result in any sort of joint opportunity for trade and free movement of people. Syria is likely to play nice until they get their strategic cliffs back, and some day down the road resume targeting the farmers in the valley below and boating on Kinneret. Syria is also a continued meddler in Lebanon's internal affairs, and has even supported drug and terror operations in the Bekaa for years. Instead, I would recommend that Israel purchase the Golan from Syria under international aegis, and settle the matter that way. The Palestinians are not the Syrians.
72. 1967 - Why this matters
Larry Finklestein ,   Boston MA USA   (10.20.08)
1917-1948 - British run Palestine UN Mandate 1946-Transjordan is separated from Palestine to be an 'Arab State'. Unfortunately, still plenty of Arabs in West Palestine who dont want to move to Jordan. 1948- UN approves a 2 state solution. THIS IS THE ONLY LEGAL SOLUTION FOR PALESTINE on the books. Israel accepts 2 State Solution - Arabs ATTACK and try to get it all and kill/evict Jews. 1948 - Armistice Line- defacto Border with West Bank - Jordan and Gaza - Egypt. THIS IS A CEASE FIRE LINE, not a real political border- 1953- Nasser war attacks Israel- Israel captures Sinai, gives it back. 1948-67 - many attacks including formation of PLO terror organization. Arab countries and PLO still trying to oust Israel. 1967-
