1. No, thank you, we want to remain in the civilized world
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (10.01.08)
Beyond what is absolutely necessary in cooperation, there is no need for Israel to join Middle East madness that brought only conflict, misery and suffering to the Arb League country member populations for the last 60 years.
2. Perhaps in a near future..
Septimus ,   Rome   (10.01.08)
This is indeed a kind a respectable offer, made by a respectable ruler, but such a conference can only be sucessfull once the fake Tehran regime, who spread all the troubles in that region, will be removed;. Only then, such a global Middle east conference will have sense. Otherwise the debates will always be hostage of teh Shiite entity expensionist desires.
3. The Arabs are unwilling to make any concession.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (10.01.08)
When the enemy is an Arab entity unwilling to make any concession whatsoever, and when the world expects Israel always to give and the Arabs always to take, then to continue along that same path to nowhere, becomes an Israeli self-delusion, leading to worse: Self destruction. It is high time for Israel to be making demands upon the Arabs, starting with territorial concessions from the vast Arab world. To put things right : http://xrl.us/bjcgn
4. SMART IDEA!

IS SHEIKH KHALED THE NEXT ANWAR SAADAT? HOPE SO... I LIKE HIS IDEA AND ISRAEL SHOULD JUMP ON IT AND ENDORSE IT .... BUT DON'T SEND SMARTUTMAT... HE'LL GIVE THE FARM AWAY!

Harriet ,   U.S   (10.01.08)
How can 'we' all sit together when Arab governments have virulent hate and incitement for Israel/Jews deeply embedded in all phases of their society? ( media, schools, mosques, books, government etc.) Take a look what is going on in the 'pretend' democracy of Iraq as they threaten to impose the death penalty on a member of their supposed parliament who visited Israel. Furthermore the puppet PM of that supposed democratic government refuses to implement the true nature of democracy by saying the word ISRAEL. Can someone with an Israeli passport visit the 'peaceful' kingdom of Saudi Arabia??? I guess the idea of cleansing oneself of this virulent hate and incitement FIRST as a basic FIRST STEP is absent from the radar screen of logic. And their lies the rub. Look at the Palestinians for instance. The Fatah charter still calls for the destruction of Israel yet they (Palestinians) are thought to be viable peace partners without accomplishing even the basic housecleaning of apparent Jew hate throughout their society! Abbas himself sanctioned a PA/Fatah poster which shows the entire Israel as Palestine. (next to a gun and Arafat) Then this so-called "MAN OF PEACE" makes a visit to phony democracy of Lebanon and visits with a released JEW KILLER Samir Kuntar. http://www.zoa.org/sitedocuments/pressrelease_view.asp?pressreleaseID=1424 ...and low and behold we now see the union between Hamas and Fatah a reality combined with veiled threats of yet another intifada where innocent Jews will once again be slaughtered so says Top Palestinian Negotiator Qureia. Murdering Jews Is A "Legitimate Right," he proclaims!! http://www.zoa.org/sitedocuments/pressrelease_view.asp?pressreleaseID=1481 So as Zaka is peeling the burnt flesh of little babies, mothers, fathers and the kids next door off the walls of pizza parlors the world will just sit and scratch their heads in amazement pretending they don't understand the depth and breadth of this situation. (sorry for the graphics but I had no other choice) When will the world wake up to truth where indeed Israel ceases to be used as a pawn for WESTERN PIPE DREAMS for the sake of the Arab/Islamic world? (when Israel G-d forbid ceases to exist?) An Arab/Islamic world who in fact has used and abused the 'PALESTINIAN PROBLEM' to their advantage so to continue incitement and hate for all things Israel/Jews while at the same time doing nothing to help their 'poor abused and Zionist occupided' brethren. Until that time we are going nowhere except closer to the edge of the looming cliff just straight ahead.
7. Israel = Right wing state
Richard ,   London UK   (10.01.08)
The general lawlessness among the West Bank settlers has reached new peaks, underscored this month when settlers from Yitzhar went on what was widely described as a "pogrom" against Palestinians in the neighboring village of Asira al-Qabaliya. The settlers were caught on film firing live ammunition at the villagers, but the police have so far failed to issue indictments. Also, often forgotten, the so-called Jewish underground has a history of targeting Palestinians inside Israel, including those with citizenship. A car bomb narrowly avoided seriously injuring the wife of Arab Knesset member Issam Makhoul in 2003. Two years later, in the run-up to the Gaza disengagement, a settler-soldier, Natan Zada, shot dead four passengers on a bus to the Israeli Arab city of Shafa'amr. Groups such as the Temple Mount Faithful, which seek to blow up the mosques of al-Aqsa and Dome of the Rock in the Haram al-Sharif of Jerusalem's Old City so that a third Jewish temple can be built in their place, also face little recourse from the Shin Bet. By contrast, the Shin Bet's Arab department runs an extensive network of Palestinian informers in the occupied territories and is reported by human rights groups to use torture to extract information from Palestinian detainees. Inside Israel, the Arab department regularly investigates Israel's own Palestinian citizens, especially the Islamic movements over their donations to charities in the occupied territories. It has also been hounding parties like the National Democratic Assembly of Azmi Bishara that demand equal rights. Like Palestinians in the occupied territories, Palestinian citizens risk being locked up on secret evidence. Israel's leading columnist Nahum Barnea noted last week that the Shin Bet's inability to find and arrest Jewish terrorists stemmed from "deliberate policy" and "emotional obstacles" -- his coy way of suggesting that many in the Shin Bet share at least some of the settlers' values, even if they reject their methods.
8. Makes No Sense
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (10.01.08)
To me, a necessary basis for negotiating in good faith is the recognition of the legal and actual existence of one's partner in those negotiations. Without that, what is the meaning of any "problem solving"? While the sentiment is laudable, it's high time to leave the alternate Arab reality where Israel doesn't exist, has no right to exist or exists and has to be destroyed and join the real world where we exist, have a right to exist and will continue to do so.
9. A forward thinking idea, probably won't work
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (10.01.08)
I believe a Saudi official (or prince) had a similar idea - to declare Israel was part of the "Arab World". I think he used the words "Jewish Arab Country", or something like that. It probably won't happen, at least not in our lifetime. The Iranians would never agree to this, they won't even compete with Israeli's in the Olympics.
10. Richard from London
Yaron ,   USA   (10.01.08)
There is nothing that will convince you so I suggest you go to www.alhayat.com as that is the type of news you are likely more familar with in the BBC spirit. Read Harriet's TB (#6). Your being able to find a left-wing self-hater who concurs with your position does not lend any weight to your arguements as they are morrally corrupt. Good Day in Londonstan!
11. destroy Israel through peace & diplomacy
zionist forever   (10.01.08)
More likley the thinking is Israel can be the arab worlds lapdog and in time create some kind of fedralist system. Israel is the only one that doesnt fit into the club being a jewish state rather than a muslim one and not having any oil money. Israel would have its vote but the arabs would vote together everytime but Israel as a member of this fedralist organistion would have to go along with it because allthough it may not have liked the proposal majority rules. Israels destruction through peace and diplomacy.] The arab royals and doctaitors are fighting each other to try mould the region to their own liking thats the region the Saudis & Egyptians are playing diplomat and other Gulf States today they are all the peacemakers in trying to solve the arab Israel conflict so they can plan both Israels future and the way the west treats these arab would be diplomats in future.
12. Kind of like the Mediterranean Union, then
Jake   (10.01.08)
Everyone saw the picture of that Grand Succes. It was a Paris photo-op for world leaders, in which Olmert gave Mubarak a big bear hug, while Bashar Assad was smiling with his back to Olmert. I can imagine the 'Middle East Union' photo op. Olmert will be all over Mubarak, Abbas, and King Abdullah, while the rest of the smiling Arab and Moslem dignataries face in one direction, opposite from Olmert. Thanks, but no thanks.
13. #7. Let's see a bibliography for this polemic drivel.

14. Generous idea
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (10.01.08)
This is something which makes sense, but it will turn out like Annapolis where Saudi's don't want to see Israeli's, or like the Paris conference where Assad would not even see Olmert. The point is not how to organise a forum, but the unwillingness to talk to Israel.
