1. fasting
Faisal ,   Damas   (10.08.08)
the whole idea is to soften your heart ...fasting draws awarness of what starving people ( palestinians ) feel when they don't have food . God SW doesnn't need your fasting if you don't ffeel for your fellow human being .
2. Fasting -- We Do
Hinda B. ,   SF Bay Area Calif.   (10.08.08)
I have three children and despite one who feels he's an athiest (blame it on California and lack of good quality synagogues in the SF Bay Area), at least three of us (including me) will be fasting. We do get the headaches but afterwards we feel refreshed. My youngeset is 14 and she stated that since she started it just shy of 2 years ago -- she doesnt' feel worried about not eating. Her Jewish and non-Jewish friends are amazed at her ability to do it - it's no big deal.
3. I just return from the Yom Kippur Service
ben shlomo SINGAPORE   (10.09.08)
I was there yesterday... today the whole day . Wonderful service. Until a bunch of jews came in last moment, and they were talking loud annd it made thing very hard. The Rabbi had to call for silence. Yet they could not keep the mouth shup at least once a year- Yom Kippur Service. I wonder what has become of people these days. Lack disipline. and the women and ladies dont even dress properly to synagogue. May G-d forgive them. Shana Tova I was stopped by the security guard I had to paste a stiker on my shirt, guess where just above my shirt pocket. I thought I was in nazi camp. it was very insulting, I am being stopped in my own home.I suppose teh President know about this ? Well they all sit there in one gang shaking hands among their selected friends even talking away when the service is on succession.Anyway shut my eyes, ears and opened my mind right through the service, let by the Morderchai Abergel. He blasted the Shofar- super I say :) Ok I am back home. I didnot forget Gilat and Jonathan Pollard. I spoke to G-d. I dont know what else to do. I somehow thought of Olmert and all of Israel. i also recall Ynet super journalist. I met Andrew Lim outside during blessing of the moon. Good Lrd I was stinking - 48 hrs no food no shower no water. But I enjoyed Yom Kippur. I am fullfileld. Ok I go now, Shana Tova. Tova ; )
4. Will they break fasting with Saudi or Irani dates?
Adnan ,   former Yugoslavia   (10.08.08)
5. to #1 Faisal, from Damas.
Igal ,   Jerusalem   (10.09.08)
Maybe the palestinians should blow themselves up once a year, like a IOM-OF-EXPLOSION festivity, so they can feel what we feel. Besides that, they don´t have food because their leaders spent their money on BOMBS and MACHINE GUNS. (By the way, Feeling sorry for them dosn´t make you more intellectual and in touch with your inner self)
6. I joined them this year in solidarity.
Rivkah   (10.10.08)
7. #5 says it all
Meira ,   Israel   (10.10.08)
Nice to hear some common sense on a talkback, Igal, instead of political froth. And while we are fasting for 1 day, by choice, millions are starving in the real sense of the word in Africa, Ethiopia etc. but not helped by a well-oiled Arab publicity machine.
8. #1 "starving people who don't have food"
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.10.08)
The most recent pictures that I saw from Gaza showed a bunch of fat people eating at cafes and stores full of food.
9. 200ce the rabbis changed the calendar
yahn goodey   (10.10.08)
from the original 1 of observation of new moon crescents to 1 of calculation. problem is that their calculated calendar is not accurate. the day of atonement that moses and aaron would keep today falls on shabbat of oct.11. see karaite_korner.org look for the weekly newsletter for a more detailed explanation.
