OK the poor guy has asked us to forgive him.Why cant we accept his request & forget the entire ugly incident & carry on with our lives. Why must this be blown out of proportion??
2. He looks like a maniac from 50es horror movie

Are you sure his picture is not photoshoped?
3. The driver should be asked to calm things down
Laura ,   Israel   (10.12.08)
He should return to Akko and speak to people to stop the violence. He apologized and now his must be pro-active.
4. i like his offer, don't like the imagery he used
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.12.08)
anytime a muslim talks about "sacrificing himself", even in this circumstance, i get uncomfortable feelings. sorry, but that's me.
5. #1 - Cry the beloved country....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (10.12.08)
You are right. We need to accept this man's apology. ANYBODY regardless of what their ethnicity is - must be punished for violence and incitement.
6. Just curious
eliyahu ,   ME   (10.12.08)
Which exactly law states that it's forbidden to drive in Yom Kippur? And what will happen if Jewish will drive? And is throwing stones by Jews in Yom Kippur is justified by any means? And if somebody need to drive in order to bring the chronically sick kid to the hospital, should this car be stoned? (It happened to my friend in Holy and Tolerant city of Jerusalem)
7. the more it changes the more it stays the same

"Every one of us knew there would be trouble in Acre. Two days ago the Grand Mufti was there he addressed a large crowd and said 'The Jews are doing their best to get us out of Palestine, they are killing our brother Arabs and burning our homes', up to date not a single case has occurred of an Arab home being burned but tons of Jews are homeless through arson and looting. He must be stopped." from the diary of Doreen C, the daughter of a British General who spent the first half of 1936 in Jerusalem. http://antiqbook.com/boox/katz/000125N.shtml
8. #6 stop justifying racism
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (10.12.08)
There is no law against driving on Yom Kippur. In Tel Aviv this Yom Kippur I saw a number of cars drive on the main roads of Namir and Yarkon, though none drove dangerously near crowds of children and none drove with loud music. If any of these cars were stoned, the drivers would have called the police who would have arrested the stone throwers. In Israel, however, it is illegal to drive dangerously into crowds of people, like Mr. Tawfiq did or like Mr. Shibli did last year when he killed a little girl. It is also illegal for large groups of people to riot and destroy cars and shops while inciting to racism with calls "slaughter the Jews". It is also illegal to throw rocks, whether at a drunken Arab driver who tried to run you down like Tawfiq (whose car was not damaged and who was not wounded), or at a Jewish baby (who was wounded). if you can, it would be nice to have you condemn the phrase "slaughter the Jews" and not just alleged stoning of Tawfiq's car.

Larry ,   zefat Israel   (10.12.08)
do not make a right.I believe ,although I was not a witness, that Tawfik Jamal may have deliberately been provocative,it is unjewish to throw stones on Yom Kippur when a jew should be at home or in synagogue .Far better to have ignored the provocation ,DON'T TAKE THE BAIT ,unless these jewish residents were being physically attacked by the Driver which is different. To have ignored him would have made him look stupid and been a victaory for the jews.
12. The Driver should have been ignored
Larry ,   zefat Israel   (10.12.08)
Why violate the Holiness of Yom Kippur if not physically attacked? Jews must not stoop to the level of those who may wish to provoke us .There were two desecrations that evening ,by the Arab Driver Mr. Jamal and by the Jews who threw stones at him.
13. Coexistance will prevail....
Rami ,   Nazareth, israel   (10.12.08)
Radical on both sides should be marginalized. The moderate majority should come out in force against this. Arabs and jews will continue to coexist in Akko and all over Israel.
14. #11 - There was only one wrong
P ,   Philadelphia   (10.12.08)
Someone who does not observe the mitzvot (who is in fact not even part of Judaism) is not wrong to drive on Yom Kippur or Shabbat. If that's all it takes to provoke stone-throwing, the Haredi involved are clearly and wholly in the wrong.
15. Effie Eitam = Hilul Hashem
glenn ,   The Galilee, Israel   (10.12.08)
Effie Eitam, you should be ashamed and your words are hilul hashem. The people who should be arrested are the fanatics who showed zero tolerance by attacking this humble man who CLEARLY meant (and committed) no harm. It is people like you who are destroying this country.
16. forgiveness
johnny depp ,   Hollywood   (10.12.08)
He is a good looking guy, go on , forgive him.
17. # 14 They were not Haredi
larry ,   zefat Israel   (10.12.08)
They were secular ,working -class Sephardi Jews ,so get your facts right and leave Haredis alone for a while.
18. # 15 Meant no Harm?
Bill ,   US   (10.12.08)
Had he meant no harm he would not have apologized. He would have said, "I'm not Jewish and it's my right to drive to a relative's house." He apologized for driving past roadbloacks meant to steer traffic away from a religious neighborhood with his radio turned up which he did with the intention of upsetting people. Humble man? Try obnoxious and intolerant.
19. Driver, Redneck Rampage clone?
Yonatan ,   Nahariya   (10.12.08)
The computer game Redneck Rampage has this guy’s twin on the cover. Too funny!
20. #7 Is it forbidden to eat a barbecue ...
HS ,   Rishon Lezion   (10.12.08)
in midday Ramadan? But if a Jew will try to do it in face of a mosque of an Arabic town won't be wise (maybe provocative) and he'll risk his life too.

Forgiveness is of utmost importance on all our journeys of learning how to live in peace. God willing , the coming year will bring peace to the entire region (with secure, thriving states for Israel, Palestine, Iraq etc.) and throughout the world.
23. #17
P ,   Philadelphia   (10.12.08)
If they can't stand the sight of someone who does not choose to obey halacha and would make such a fuss over someone driving a car, they're certainly behaving like Haredim. I certainly wouldn't apologise for driving on Yom Kippur if I were this guy, nor would I feel the least bit bad about it. Things like communities rioting over this give a bad name, and it's sad how many crazy jingoist people come out immediately insulting the guy just because he's arab and they feel a patriotic duty to hate them.
24. Have you forgotten
nr ,   los angeles, usa   (10.12.08)
that during the last three months, vehicles have been used to murder Jews. I think that's reason enough to go after this guy - he drove around a road block. He's lucky no one shot him - YK or not!!!
