Syria has no title to the Golan Heights for many reasons. Some of which are: 1) The land is Jewish-owned, since Jewih philanthropist E. Rotschild bought large chunks of the territory in the 1800's 2) Between 1948 and 1967, Syria not only occupied the Golan, but also Israeli de-militarized zones to the north and the south-east of the Kinneret lake, beyond the international border. They were taken back in Six Day War, along with most of the Golan Heights, which is Jewish-owned land. 3) Syria lost its war of aggression on Israel, and therefor has no legitimate further claim on Golan. It is now part of Israel again. 4) The French had no right to offer the Golan to its puppet mandate in Syria, since the land was part of the original Palestine mandate, reserved for the Jewish homeland in a legally binding decision at the San Remo conference in 1922 and in the League of Nations' mandate of 1923.

Last I heard there was talk of reconciliation between Hamas and Abbas. Has anyone heard of demanding our foes clean their house before we give them anything? These offerings of land for peace have been done before with the Arabs but the good thing is that they never accept it. Olmert earlier this year offered Assad the Golan and Assad said no. And, apparently, naïve to the end, did so in writing! 1/4th of Golan was ceded from the ottoman Syrian province to Palestine when the british and french came. 5-6 years later it was ceded back to Syria. It was never Palestinian and the area ceded was 1/4th of Golan, not close to the entire area.
