The rumors were that he was born "Steven Katz" and changed his name for show business. I suspect this started out as a joke as I once read a humor article including this "fact" among others, such as that Nelson Mandela was originally named Nachum Mandelbaum. As far as I understand, he was raised a Christian in Great Britian and that his ancestry is at least partially from India.

His father is Greek and his mother is Swedish or it's the other way around. His Islamic private school in Britain is one of the top three in that country. He is funded by the government and is doing a fine job of educating people in all walks of life. It's a bit scary when one man can raise the spector of terrorism.
