1. Dream on!
shadoil ,   Jerusalem   (10.29.08)
Anything that is not in "THEIR" agenda does not qualify as "human"!
2. All of this makes alot of sense.....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (10.29.08)
3. Not a chance
Jonathan Boyko ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.29.08)
Unfortunately, judging by groups like HRW, Betselem, Amnesty and many others, they *do* care only about the rights of Arabs and not about the rights of the settlers. The article is a fictional dream, never to come true.
4. Violence and filthy mouths have no human rights
Talula ,   Israel   (10.29.08)
Where do you draw the line? Illegal settlers battling soldiers, spitting at them and wishing them dead, have NO human rights.
5. Right wing fanatics have relinquishd their rights
Ron Morris   (10.29.08)
They are breaking the law. As soon as you break the law, you don't have rights. They are stealing from Palestinians, attacking soldiers and police, and endangering all of Israel by living in these illegal places. I think it is time the government started treating them more harshly. Their children are being taught to be terrorists and social parasites so the government should take them away from their parents. When the territories revert to their rightful owners, they will be crying for the gentle days of Amona.
6. for once somthing smart was said by these people
david ,   yated, israel   (10.29.08)
7. Talula #4
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.29.08)
'Where do you draw the line? Illegal settlers battling soldiers, spitting at them and wishing them dead, have NO human rights. ' But Arabs murdering little children do? Hum I am beginning to see what kind of low-life you are. Maybe the soldiers should stop violating the laws and that might not happen, you think? No that is beyond your comprehension.
8. #7 but you live in Zikron Yaakov
israel   (10.29.08)
if you are so gung-ho about settlers, go and live with them.
9. to 4 and 5
Elchonon ,   Chevron   (10.29.08)
On what basis and grounds ? do you support rights for arab criminals ? Do you support the rights of leftist protesters ? What do you know about the army ? Almost every settler I know served in the army. I have a cousin in EGOZ golani, a friend in palsar golani.. friends in tzanchanim, givati, golani, nachal... I think the pali's forfeited their rights, can i go beat em up?
10. israel #8
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.30.08)
I am a firm believer is rights for ALL Israelis, and you have a problem with that, why? I spent over 20 years in the IDF defending Israelis, so I am a big fan of all of them, even the moronic leftists in Tel-Aviv.
11. #4 and #5
(10.30.08)
settlers are merely settling the land Hashem gave to all Israel, I don't see what can one have against it.
12. 7 & 9
Talula ,   Israel   (10.29.08)
From the top, one more time: Violence and filthy mouths have no human rights. Where do you draw the line? Illegal settlers battling soldiers, spitting at them and wishing them dead, have NO human rights. Opps! so nothing changed. Your patheitc talkback changed nothing. You should have saved your energy. I just couldn't care less what you call me. As for the rantings of #9 - he doesn't even live here, so who cares what he has to say, I don't.
13. Problem is, it's not a "cliché "
JPS ,   Efrat   (10.29.08)
Mohar writes: "We must not ignore the cliché about human rights groups defending only Arabs and leftists." It's not a cliché, it's fact. The so-called human rights groups have a piss-poor record when it comes not just to "settlers", but to Israelis in general. There is no equality in human rights when these organizations consider Israel. They've been brainwashed by both the Palestinian media advisers and by the sickness of "political correctness". Thus, B'Tselem looks after only Arab human rights in Judea+Samaria/WestBank. But human rights are supposed to be universal. So when Arabs repeatedly violate Jews' human rights over the green line, B'Tselem simply ignores the human rights violations, implying non-Arabs are not human. Amnesty, HRW, Physicians without borders, all are guilty of abrogating their duty to preserve universal human rights.
14. #7
Shmendrik ,   ISrael   (10.30.08)
Did you bother to even read the article....i dont see anywhere that it mentioned illegal settlers battling soldiers, spitting at them and wishing them dead. To take one isolated case and make generalizations is total ignorance.
15. Will never happen
Yerushalmi ,   Jerusalem   (10.30.08)
Basic idea of lefty "human rights", "freedom of speech" is that everyone has right to have their opinions, say what they want to hear. As long as "Dros kol dos" bumper sticker is not incitement, is 100% legal, and "Hu yigal otanu" is, and you get jail time for having it on your car, state of israel is not a democratic country, and its institutions should be treated as institutions of a dictatorship.
16. settlers' rights
Fair   (10.30.08)
Why not give the settlers exactely the same rights as the rest of the local population of Judea and Samaria? Or even better comply with international law and relocate them to within the Green Line. And to start with stop spending so much money giving settlers privileges, subsidies and protection which decent tax-paying, law abiding Israeli citizens don't get. Settlers have been a burder on the economy for a very long time. And they are allowed to riot and curse the soldiers who protect them? enough!
17. #4 - who forfeit their human rights? Been to Nilin or Hebron
(10.30.08)
Have you been to Nilin or Hebron recently? Want to know about Violence and filthy mouths. Go there and watch how the low life arabs and their human rights activists shout abuse and throw rocks etc at the army or any Jew they can find to intimidate. Who has forfeited their human rights? Not the "settlers".
18. #12
Elchonon ,   Chevron   (10.30.08)
I dont live here ? I made aliyah whwn I was 17, served 14 months volunter machal. Watch your words, youd do well to think before attacking.
19. Human rights do not exist in a vacuum
Kim ,   Australia   (10.30.08)
Human rights are codified in a range of international laws, which the Israeli state is a signatory too. The problem for the illegal settlers is that they and the Israeli state are REPEATEDLY IN BREACH of these laws. The colonies they set up are illegal under international law, which Israel is signatory too. The actions they carry, harrasment, racism and bigotry against the Palestinian population is also illegal. Israel and international human rights groups are under no obligation to protect or speak out for serial human rights abusers. Their job is to expose them and campaign against them, which is exactly what they are doing. When illegal settler start acting within the frame work of internationally recognised human rights laws, then perhaps they can then complain they are not being treated fairly.
20. other story
saria ,   jerusalem   (10.30.08)
when the ministry of health in jordan sent to drs not to write some tabletes as people used it for addiction .an addict man came to a clinic asked for these tabletes the dr said i cant it is forbiden .the patient said oh once it is givven easy untill we areaddicted and now it is not .. it is the fault of drs ... and this is the settlers story and their rights
21. #5
Judy ,   Israel   (10.30.08)
by your own reasoning we should be treating those arab suicide bombers, stone throwers etc alot more harshly as well they are also breaking the law and fighting our solieders - so be careful what you wish for!!!!
22. I agree
Shachar Haamim ,   Upper El Khader   (10.30.08)
Settlers and Religious Zionists should also be the first to decry unwanton and criminal police violence against Arabs
23. Tell it to the human rights groups, not to Ha'aretz
ARA ,   Haifa, IL   (10.30.08)
Yariv, tell your spiel to the human rights groups, not to readers of Ha'aretz!
24. Left-wing radicals respect no rights other than their own.
AniAshkeloni ,   Ashkelon   (10.30.08)
The left-wing radicals respect no rights other than their own. Those left-wing radicals who would give away the rightful lands of Israel, land which is the inheritance of Jews the world over, see the "settlers" as no more than irritating bugs to be squashed.
25. Another army used to attack Jews in their homes.
Yacov ,   Chicago   (10.30.08)
We called the German army "Nazis". They also attacked Jews and destroyed their homes and businesses.
26. Question for Talula (#4)
Moshe Z. Matitya ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.30.08)
"Where do you draw the line? Illegal settlers battling soldiers, spitting at them and wishing them dead, have NO human rights." OK. So I presume that you also believe that Arabs battling soldiers, spitting at them and wishing them dead, have NO human rights. Correct? And also Israeli leftists and anarchists who do all these things, too. Like the ones who hold demonstrations every Saturday in Bilin, at which they throw rocks at IDF soldiers, and curse and spit at them. They also have NO human rights. Correct?
27. Border Guards evict Jewish children in middle of night
marlene ,   Philadelphia, USA   (10.30.08)
I'm shocked at the violent way Israel threw out their own Jewish citizens from their homes. SHAME ON YOU, ISRAEL. SHAME ON YOUR GOVERNMENT. SHAME ON OLMERT.
28. #19 - actually by international law we own the west bank.
rebecca ,   modiin   (10.30.08)
By international law, having been attacked, and subsequently taken the land of our attackers (which by the way was Jordan - Palestine did not exist) we have the right to keep it. And traitors like the PA and Hamas supporters should be treated appropriately. By International law Gilad Shalit would be home by now.
29. #4., Who has Rights?
David Feigenbaum ,   Netanya, Israel   (10.31.08)
It is those who are ACCUSED of violating the law that human rights groups are supposed to protect. According to your reasoning, Shimon Peres and Yossi Beilin should have been jailed immediately for breaking the law by negotiating with Arafat in the 1990's, since it was against the law when they did it.
