For whatever reason, Guy Ziv doesn't mention that NBC reported just a few weeks ago that Mouha Husaini who is the Obama campaign's Muslim outreach coordinator, met last month with her predecessor Mazen Asbahi who was forced to resign this summer because of his connections with radical Islam. They met in area known as the "Wahhabi Corridor" which is in one of Washington's Northern Virginia suburbs and what is perhaps even more disturbing was the presence of two prominent Muslim Brotherhood operatives, Mahdi Bray of the Muslim American Society (MAS) and Nihad Awad of the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR). Wow, I almost lost hope before I saw the talkbacks. I have reviewed over and over the two canidates. Obama is far from a president of the free world. His Hypocricy has no limit. If the LA Times "wouldn't release the tapes," then how dare you assert that you know the contents of them or in what context these alleged statements were made? Only a lazy scholar believes everything he or she "googles." Your comments truly can only appeal to the gullible who are inclined to believe that hearsay and rumors substitute for corroborated evidence.

I agree with Dr. Ziv. Israel's long-term security depends on peace with Palestinians and a rational diplomatic strategy toward Iran. Dr. Ziv did not address Iran. The election of Mr. Obama, I believe, will encourage Iranians to get rid of Ahmadinajad and bring about a more pragmatic president. If this happens, a deal to end Iran's nuclear program could come to fruition. Mr. McCain will encourage Iranians to stick with the hardliners, which is bad for the US and Israel.

I'm backing Obama mainly for the reasons given in the second paragraph. I came to the same conclusions. Vote the way you feel is correct, but vote. Otherwise you have no right to complain if your choice did not win. I am confident my candidate will win and I'm ensuring that with my vote.

McCain is a dangerous evangelical that even though he may not personally agree with all their dogmatic principles he has most certainly caved into them. Barack Obama is working with Rahm Emmanuel and other prominent and balanced U.S. Yehudim like Chuck Schumer and Russ Fiengold etc. John McCain is under the influence of Eugenicist Roger Pearson, Anne Coulter, Pamela Geller, Rush Limbaugh and other White Christian Homogenizer's they represent a trend that extremely perilous to Israel and other nations. I would suggest a parallel to 1930's France when Leon Blum faced Marshall Petain in the French Republic elections where the slogan was "Better Hitler than Blum" The American people have accepted antisemitism as non offensive and even critical to adequate national security and guess what? the mitnagdim in that scenario is Israel among other.

This is an insightful piece that correctly distinguishes between empty "rha rha Israel" rhetoric and actions geared to strengthen Israel. Some of the comments above are hysterical. Ziv makes a good case for Obama both in terms of what's right for Israel and as far as US interests are concerned.

Obama wil betray both the US and Israel. His supporters are all anti Israel and US. They hate us both. G-D help us if he wins because he will sell us out. Pray for both countries.

The idea that Obama is better for Israel strains credibility! His good friends are left wing radicals and include Rashid Khalidi who want us gone and his preacher is an anti-Semite. Obama is going to win in a landslide tomorrow. As an American and as a Zionist I am delighted. Peace needs to be negotiated, sanely and carefully and Obama will help with that. But peace will be established mainly within the green line. Settlers should start putting their energy into the Galilee. The peace process has dead-ended and the Palestinians have recommitted themselves to destroying Israel as a Jewish state. Obama could not have been friends with a R. Khalidi if he differed significantly on the issue that is uppermost for Khalidi. Therefore, an Obama pledge to work for peace in Israel can only mean that he will make a serious effort to dismantle Israel as a Jewish state. If that is peace the author cannot abide, he should be voting for McCain.

I really fell sorry for the people of Israel if they truely believe Obama will help them. In no way will this happen. Did not the Jews learn anything from WWII? This piece is absolutely right. Barack Obama will pursue the peace process which is good for Israel, far better than endless war. The best way to neutralize the threats of Iran, demography and the one-state solution is buy implementing the 2-state solution. My one difference with Ziv. I doubt that "McCain views himself as a stalwart supporter of Israel." Like Obama, his agenda is about his own country. The job of a US President is to do what is best for America. I trust that either would do that. The 2-state solution happens to be better for both countries.

While we may not know for sure whether or not the next president will be a strong friend of Israel, it stands to reason that Obama would do more on the peace/security front. Ziv is 100% right in his analysis.
