It is about time to define what is pro Israel. Is it someone who supports the Israeli government (Olmert, Livni, Sharon, Oslo, Peres, corrupted politicians, pseudo religious parties) or indeed someone who supports the Jewish rights to the Jewish homeland, settlements, promoting Aliyah according to Gods Torah? This is what is eventually comes down to. The first position is changing according to the current political climate, the second is quite eternal, surviving all history.

You've actually done a nice job to define what it means...so to actually be "pro-Israel" sort of boils down to being an enemy of Israel (Bush and Condi). We need pro-Jewish people...in America, in our government, and in America...

I just spent about 1/2 an hour looking at various websites detailing his voting record. His voting record & position statements indicate that he is in the left wing of the Democratic Party. There is very little actual information on his position re: Israel aside from a few statements that he orchestrated the infamous handshake between Rabin & Arafat on the White House lawn, for which he felt great pride (nauseating was more my reaction). His apppointment, thus, does not seem to be particularly favourable - that's my opinion. I have a deep distrust of those that constantly make a lot of liberal noise about "supporting"Israel while all the while linking that support to "peace", whatever that nebulous concept means. Usually, it means concessions, most of them dangerous to our security. I really would prefer, in that case, that they "support" us less. This is support we could do without. As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

This appointment is a smart move by Obama. Mr. Emanuel is tough and the chief of staff must be capable of swinging his fists. Most of all I hope that this appointment will assure Israel of Obama's committment to her security. Smart move all around, President elect Obama again shows he is a man who well considers every step.
