1. Good points...
Tuvia Schertzman,MD ,   Betar Ilit   (11.07.08)
Maybe you should get this Tzvia to explain herself in an article. Personally I get very upset when I see "haredim" acting in gross violation of the Torah. In this case, probably the source of the problem is the phd in philosophy. It probably screwed her up. Maybe she could have been a physician and actually helped people. '
2. Ask her yourself!
jewish mother ,   jerusalem   (11.07.08)
Tali, you call yourself a journalist, so...ask her yourself! Many Haredim would say the same about you. How can a G-d-fearing woman work and write for Y-net when it expresses many of the views you found so repulsive in Tzivia. Its a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
3. is she charadi?
larry ,   chicago   (11.07.08)
What does charadi mean anyway? How you dress? or what you feel inside? Obviously she dresses charadi, I assume she observes shabbat and kashrut, etc, so does that makes her charadi? or maybe it means somehthing more like the political slant? Like only voting for gimmel, etc. But who cares about this anyway. What is important between her and G-d is between her and G-d. We is important to us as a political body is what she does, and being with meretz does not speak kindly.
4. Judaism is not the sole property of the Charedi
Ron Morris   (11.07.08)
It is clear that what really bothers Tali is that a person can call themselves charedi and still be sane and normal. Isn't it clear that in this day and age it is abnormal to not watch television? It is sick, almost criminal, to be against homosexuals. The sabbath as the charedim enforce it is a perversion of what the torah meant whne it called it a day of rest. Charedim, themost uptight race on the planet, sorely need a day of rest but on that day end up going crazier than usual. I don't understand your point about having a dog but charedi women ARE "ignorant creatures-baby making machines". This concept of Judaism being one faceted, your way or the highway, is fanatical. I can be a Jew any way I want. I think what really bothers you is that a Charedi woman escaped the brainwashing of the money grubbing power hungry cult rabbis and thorugh education freed herself. Once becoming educated, it was inevitable she would leave charedi brainwashing behind and join the intelligentsia of the left wing.
5. Maybe such Haredim do exist
Moshe ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.07.08)
But they are too scared to say anything, due to repercussions from the haredi establishment. Having your children thrown out of school due to your opinions is not quite what anyone would want.
6. Tsvi`a, is not a Haredia
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (11.07.08)
7. What's bothering you?
TZVIAH ,   jerusalem   (11.07.08)
I don't understand you Tali? Are you questioning Tzvia Greenfield's honesty in her "chareidiism" or in her loyalty to Meretz"? Apparently she isn't honest in either of them.
8. a hareridi person is someone who uses hashem's name to set
(11.07.08)
up a society which keeps itself serparate from the vast majority of Jews, has no respect for an honest day's work, does not fulfill typical obligations of citizens in this democracy like serving in the army, and has an overiding obsession with separation of the sexes and modesty (of dress, not character) in the extreme. None of these things have anything to do with being Jewish or religious. Under this definition, tzvia is definitely not haredi.
9. If Mrs. Doubtfire is Haredi, then I'm Pope Gregory IX.
Jake   (11.07.08)
10. Mrs Greenfield is in fact the talented Mr Ripley in disguise
Jake   (11.07.08)
11. Charadi and peace now incompatble, Jews love Israel.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.07.08)
12. you're not either
haim ,   ny usa   (11.07.08)
Your sheitel disqualifies YOU as charedi as per "the gadol hador"
13. #8, I agree with every word.
DkS ,   J'lem, IL   (11.07.08)
14. Spinoza and Sartre ?
Sagi ,   Israel   (11.07.08)
Wow !!! Tali actually reads and understands these pagan testimomials. Did she receive approval or will she now be chastised or perhaps even ostracised for her heathen activities.
15. Hard Journalist
Michael Amsellem ,   Paris, France   (11.07.08)
As a Jew from France, I would like to highlight the harsh tone of the journalist. Although the positioning of the MK reveals from science fiction, or the incohérance, people must be respected ... It is a requirement that each Jewish have to respect, in France we call that "elegance" Shabbat Shalom
16. Tali, Tzvia does not own a dog
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (11.07.08)
That's her kid.

18. This is called Lashon Hara, no?
Meir Moses   (11.07.08)
Tell me do you always speculate about people's yiddishkeit on a publication that also caters to the hiloni public? Disgraceful.
19. re: tzivia, meretz
feivel sommer ,   monsey, new york, us   (11.07.08)
in regard to tzivia being both an orthodox, or rather orthodesque jew and being a member of meretz, it is my contention that since the role of a government has nothing to do with our religious beliefs, and that a gov't has no business telling a woman what to do with her body, or telling two members of the same gender that they cannot be together, or to tell people to keep the shabbos, these things are for us to believe and to do for ourselves, and we should not turn to a government to enforce what we see as marality
20. More sinat chinam
Abe Froman ,   NY, NY   (11.07.08)
This essay turns the word "haredi" into a mundane political party, as if it were a choice on the ballot. It's the same as the American GOP turning the word "Christian" into a synonym reserved for their own agenda. Ms. Farkash cannot believe someone who fervently believes in Hashem could feel differently than her politically, and dislikes Aloni for feeling differently. This sinat chinam / baseless hatred. Ms. Farkash running around damning others as "secular" for supporting one party over another is exactly how Israelis acted in the 2nd commonwealth. Pharisee vs Tzaducee vs Essene = Roman takeover. Farkash should be the stronger woman and not question Aloni's yiddishkeit, despite their differences, because anything less weakens Klal Yisrael.
21. Tali has nothing to say about ceding Jerusalem?
Jake   (11.08.08)
"But neither I nor you, Tzvia, can sanction, in the name of God almighty, the desecration of the Shabbat, bringing illegitimate children into the world, homosexuality, abortions, and any other bone of contention between believers and heretics. Issues that are an inseparable part of your party's platform" So Tali the upstanding Haredit has all these criticisms to make about Meretz, except for their most glaringly obvious flaw, the raison d'etre of Meretz: That they wish to CEDE JERUSALEM, GOLAN, JUDEA, SAMARIA, AND MORE TO THE IMPLACABLE ENEMIES OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE! This is in flagranT violation of the FUNDAMENTAL BIBLICAL and ORIGINAL Covenant made between Abraham and God on behalf of all generations of Jewish people until the end of time. Everything else is secondary. The Land is the only one of our inheritances that is eternal and immutable. This article confirms my suspicions about the ultra-Orthodox. That they are willing to split hairs endlessly when it comes to rules and regulations and modesty and ethical this and morality that, and Kashrut this and Treif that. But when it comes to the issue of preserving JEWISH SOVEREIGNTY over OUR LAND, it is a minor, even non-existent, issue for them. Let the peyot grow, and let Israel shrink... YOU FORGOT WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT!
22. GOOD JOURNALISM TALI
Baruch Cohen ,   Rishon Lezion Israel   (11.08.08)
This MK would have been better staying in seminary rather than going to university. She doesn't get it that our enemies want the WHOLE OF ISRAEL: she is delusional to believe otherwise. And how many of us really want to see our children become homosexual, have a grandchild grow up in a single parent family or sanction abortion after abortion? It sounds to me that Tzvia just wants to have her own voice heard. She is prepared to compromise Judaism's ideals in her own home, so who can trust her with the nation's business?
23. Fartsquash ranting again - #2 well put !
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.08.08)
Tali you are a WANABE hareidi, not a real one, sorry to tell you. Your "contribution" to ynet, your expensive wig, your degradatory comments and never ending loshon hara, disgust me to the depths of my being Datit leumit
24. FYI Farti :
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.08.08)
hareidim is an Ashkenazi way of life. Sephardim adopted their European dress code and "way of life" as an attemp to appear holy. You are as fake as all Shasnikim You make me laugh (or cry)
25. Cynical use of apostates
Ilan ,   Ariel   (11.08.08)
When they wanted to burn the Talmud they needed an apostate to give them testify. Some things do not ever change.
26. #10: you're hilarious!
david ,   new york   (11.09.08)
isn't it sad that meretz has to stoop so low as to dress up this woman and pretend she is a haredi? its straight out of nazi propaganda, where they would have some "jew" tell us about how evil the jews are. how low. how antisemitic.
27. Everybody's got to have a gimmick
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (11.09.08)
Ugly leftist hags are a dime a dozen, she has to have a "gimmick" in order to get the media attention that she craves.
28. Every one of you is totally ignorant, as is the author
Amy ,   off rt 40   (11.09.08)
... of the scope of openness in Yiddishkeit/Judaism/Yahadut. There are a lot of us who are intensely "ultraOrthodox" ... we women who cover our hair, with husbands who have long peyot and tzitzit ... who also have open minds and read Kafka and even Ellison (both Ralph and Harlan) and on an don, and also have advanced degrees and use that knowledge working hard for a living making scientific discoveries that heal the earth and clean the water and develop renewable energy, and all the while making time for expanding our own consciousness ... also known as connecting to G!d. And all of the hate you all are spewing at each other, wasting your time, wasting your lives, in hate and ignorance ... is the true cancer eating away at this country. Please get over it, folks. You're holding the rest of us back.
29. JESUSALEN
cristian ,   bs as arg   (11.09.08)
JESUSALEN the word of truth is living and active,it´s sharper than any sword that has two edges,it cuts deep enough to separate soul from spirit,it can separate joints from bones,it judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart, nothing G-D created is hidden from him,his eyes see everything,he´ll hold us responsible for everything we do.
30. Meretz Haredi
Benzion Chinn ,   Columbus, OH; USA   (11.11.08)
As an Orthodox Jew who believes in liberal democracy I support the legalization of a lot of things that I am against. I believe that it should be legal for people to drive on Shabbos and eat pork. I have no intention of doing either of these things myself, but if people want to do them that is between them and God not between them and the government.
