Talula ,   Israel   (11.11.08)
What it WILL show however, is not a distortion of democracy - but a nation who are sick and tired of thieving liars giving protexia to friends and throwing their weight around our cities. What it shows are people who are completely pissed off with anyone voted into a public postion. Because, it seems, no-one can be trusted anymore. I'm not going to vote for anyone - I don't need to kick myself when they mess up in a few months.
2. Why vote when you can moan about the results?
Sheila ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (11.11.08)
3. M Shitrite talking about democracy is a joke as he is.
Al   (11.11.08)
I once had the displeasure of seeing him in Montreal schnorring for funds at a local synagogue. I couldnt help get the impression he got his attitude by having been the local bully while he was a kid. Israel, get some real leadership before you are cooked. Obama has it in for you.
4. No Talula
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.11.08)
When not voting , you a secular , while your "friends" the charidim are going "en masse" , you give them the power you so much dislike . Have'nt they already more than enough to say ? Don't come in some months crying because they toke some of your liberties , you are guilty of it .
5. It's the corruption, stupid
Concerned Israeli   (11.11.08)
Again another idiot politician making mindless claims for whatever reason. The low voter turnout is not a distortion of democracy, it's just a distortion of the results of the election. The democratic system is in fine working condition. It's our political culture that needs fixing. Israelis have become so disgusted by their politicians that no one will even spend the five minutes it takes to vote. You don't need to threaten people by fining them to vote like Sheetrit suggests. All you need to do is root out the corruption from the government. Once the government regains the confidence of the public, I assure you that people will go out and vote and our democratic system will work wonderfully.
6. Democracy
PMB ,   Rehovot   (11.11.08)
Poor Mr. Shitreet - he doesn't understand that if people don't want to vote - that IS democracy! If that's what the people want, so be it! I wonder if he would say the same if he felt that a low turn-out would be beneficial to his party and platform!!

Thanks for yet another lecture, Charles. There are no haredi (thank god) where I live, so the fear of the Nutters taking over my town are zero. It's just a load of secular testosterone vying for power. And I don’t want to be a part of it.
8. voting
colin   (11.12.08)
Sheerit has seen the declining number of voters over the years. He as all filthy politician blame the people. Start looking at yourself !!! When have you Sheerit acted for the people?? When has any modern politician thought of the people after they lie to get elected. The nation are sick and tired of twisted words, untruths outright lies so look at yourself before opening your stinking trap/
9. Democracy vs Judaism
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah   (11.12.08)
B"H "Democracy" is "People's Power" as demos means people and cratos means power: in Greek. It is an intrinsically Hellenistic system that is the exact opposite of what Judaism stands for: Hashemcracy. Now, if this sounds extreme to you, think of Rosh Hashana, one of the most observed of Jewish holidays. At Rosh Hashana we declare Hashem King. Not big brother, not uncle, not friend, not benefactor: KING. A king is a "political" figure and we attribute sovereignty to Hashem. That's why Jews in Israel should have institutions compatible with Hashem's Torah, not with the bogus foreign boards of the democratic power-structure! Democracy may be good for the nations, Jews are meant to follow a different pass and not allow themselves to be divided into part-ies. That is why Jewish Jews don't vote, thank G-d.
10. ariel , go to your god
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.12.08)
I don't need such a king , we saw what an inexisting idea this is .

'go to your god' ?? Stupid comment Charles. We all have the same God and that's what is causing such strife between us – we all interpret the divine in extremely different ways. But some take it to the outer boundaries of what can be regarded as acceptable and normal behaviour – the haredim for instance.
12. go to iran, you'll be happy

ezeh tipesh ha Ariel Ben Yochanan hazeh,
13. Talula , sorry , for me there is not such a thing called god
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.12.08)
I don't have any god , so your comment is'nt smart at all . If you have a god , fine for you , you need it maybe , i not . So his god , and your god is not mine . So who gives a stupid comment here ? not me .

Maybe because your English isn't that good, you find it difficult to express and explain yourself. If you don't have a god, then you should back off moaning at everyone here who does believe in one .......and go get a life. Stupid? not me, Charles.
15. Charles, a question
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.12.08)
you claim you have no G-d fine just what made you seek refuge in Israel from all countries in the world ? You can still move to far more democratic 'open" civilized" countries - you know that, don't you?
