1. Saul of Tarsas was wrong about some things, but he said
Rivkah   (11.12.08)
the more abundantly he loved people, the less he was loved. That seems to be true of Arkady Gaydamak, too. The more he does for people, the less they love him. It is called the Principle of Inverse Reciprocity. Saul of Tarsas' conclusion was that even though he was not loved and the more he did for people, the less thankful they were, that he would continue to do good.
2. a charadi not for porush
eliezer ,   jerusalem   (11.12.08)
I am a charadi and support the charadi causes, but having met and dealt with Porush, I could not bring myself to vote for such a despicable person. I hope next time Gimmel puts in a decent person, not just a political hack.
3. Baruch Hashem
Mark ,   Israel   (11.12.08)
4. 3.6% instead of the 100% you were SURE of

6. Yes Yes - Great Victory
Avi ,   Ramat Gan   (11.12.08)
Thats good news for Jerusalem. Lets hope Nir Barkat can bring Jerusalem back to the people which has become an ultra orthodox enclave after the racist and one sided policies of Mayor Lupolianski.
7. Haradi
Love Jeruslaem ,   Jerusalem   (11.12.08)
Jerusalem has seen grows like never before thanks to a Haradi Mayor, the NIS 2 Billion debt made by the Seculer Mayors hase turned into a surplus since Mayor Luplianski was wayor so dont sell me crap.
8. HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAA
Talula ,   Israel   (11.12.08)
I've woken up to a world as it should be - as God intended. A secular is in charge of his holy city. Well done Mar Barkat!!!! Well done indeed!
9. To #1, Rivka, how naive
Abe ,   Jerusalem   (11.12.08)
Are you referring to Gaydamak's Lord of War status he enjoys after making millions of dollars by arming both sides in the Angolan Civil War? Yea what a great guy, I wonder why people don't love him. Why are you so stupid?
10. I'm so happy Barkat won! I hope better years for Jerusalem
(11.12.08)
to come! Mazel Tov Barkat!
11. A real Jerusalem mayor would keep Shabbos, a fake not.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.12.08)
12. #7 Give me a break! Where on earth do you get your facts?
Sheila ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (11.12.08)
Since Lupuliansky entered the Iriah he has not raised a single penny for Jerusalem, and has spent nothing on culture because he doesn't believe in it!!! He has left the Special needs children without the funds to continue their activities, he has diverted every penny of governmental funding into Haredi areas....... and prettying up the streets without building one new classroom in his entire tenure. Lupuliansky gave building permits to undeserving people without control....Give me a break - open your eyes and read the municipal reports!!!!!
13. #11 A real Jew would live in Jerusalem not LA, USA
sarah ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (11.12.08)
14. NOT a Victory for the seculars, it's a victory for zionism
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.12.08)
80% of the city is orthodox , either national religious or hareidi. He got, ovbiously, our NR votes. Porush's campaign was full of petty lies, no platform, no ideas of how to implement anything. Next to schools were people came to vote a hordes of hareidim (yes men!) would come over to me, and just to anyone else, saying: "barkat doen't stand a chance", barkat is bad for jerusalem, barkat is secular barkat is....." At every polling station I walked by!!!!!!! Posters by Porush depicted as Barkat deviding Jerusalem and a whole nasty array of loshon hara. Funny, Porush himself said "The wakf can keep the key of Har Habait and go on doing as they wish" . This individual has no guts. He pts on sale his Jewish soul in exchange of the Arabs vote. Barkat's campaign was clean, clear and honest. I hope his mandate is so.
15. Its definitely about time, despite all their attempts...
Jason Kanar ,   Jerusalem   (11.12.08)
Having had the opportunity to work on his campaign over the past few months and watching things unfold until the the last of the ballots were being counted, there was some fear of doubt in the beginning. Despite Porush's people disguising themselves as Barkat supporters, distrupting with the elections, hacking into his website and learning that Nir's ballots went mysteriously missing, they still failed! It just shows that consistency, honesty and organized campaigning has prevailed and we're now at the beginning of a bright new era - thank G-d. Yes, we can!
16. #11 Bunny - A real jew would live in Israel not LA
Simon ,   TA the free city   (11.12.08)
We jews are free to decide our level of religious observance or not at all. Thats someones basic human right, and all this advise coming from someone that calls himself Bunny and chooses not to live in Israel but prefers the holy city of LA. Butt out Bunny Boy its not your concern. Seems all that smog has clouded what remains of your brain.
17. Mazel Tov
Jack Davis ,   Jerusalem   (11.12.08)
Now we want to see action not words. The past administration of incompetence and poor leadership has left Jerusalem in a mess which I hope the new mayor has the ability, acumen and energy to overcome. In my opinion the first move he should intiate is a new broom to sweep out into the gutter the corrupt and inept employees who now constitute the Jerusalem Municipality.
18. #17 - Absolutely!!
sarah ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (11.12.08)
When E. Olmert entered the Municipality he found 700 - yes 700 members of one family. If you recall he tried to fire most of them and there was an extended strike. Over the years he managed to get rid of 300 but 400 remain. If Danny Bonfield takes over the Koach Adam of the Iriah ...... asson!!!
19. 17 -18 A M E N
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.12.08)
Why am I glued to ynet today ???
20. Bunny : from CA: What does "LA " (Los Angeles) stand for ??
jerusalem   (11.12.08)
L A " Lo Aleynu" (heard of that one a few weeks ago) keep your your beautiful useful sermons on Jerusalem internal affairs for when Moshiach comes. Or for when you come, whoever shows up first.
21. #1
R. Gardner ,   Washington, DC   (11.12.08)
Saul of Tarsus has no relevance here. He is a Christian, not a Jew. This is an election in the Israeli state, for the mayorship of Jerusalem, the capital of the Jewish people. Please don't add irrelevant talkbacks...and if you do, at least have the decency to call him by his Christian name: Paul. No trickery Rebecca.
22. Nir doesn't stand for the typical secular person!
A proud Jerusalemite ,   The Capital   (11.12.08)
It is an incredible and well-deserved success for all of us who believe in the importance and uniqueness of this city! However, I can't help but sharing a few remarks: in most media and YNET def. being one them - Nir is being presented as the "secular" candidate, who will bring a "secular revolution" etc. It is actually very said that the media has no better ways than to describe him and the people who helped bringing him this win. As someone who worked on the campaign I can confirm that at least of Nir's campaign people are traditional, kippa-wearing people and there was nether a clash regarding this. In Israel "secular" often the connotation of being totally ignorant towards religion, while leaving any sense for tradition behind. Well, this is certainly not Nir! Last night, we were chanting religious Jerusalem songs as an expression of our happiness, but also our commitment to the city in the most Jewish way - unfortunately, it seems like the press didn't find it sensational enough and so the "secular" title was found to be a more selling one.
23. to #11: You are not really jewish
Jonathan ,   USA/Israel   (11.12.08)
A real jew would put in front the phrase: "kol Israel arevim ze la ze" If you, as it seems to be, are willing to leave a jew out of this principle just because he/she is not shomer shabbat, you don't really understand what being a jew means. It is not going every morning to the shul and pray, or say tahanun, and then be a jerk. It's a lot more than that..... Remember it: "kol Israel arevim ze la ze, kol Israel ahim"
