2. Waiting for Talula's rabid response
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (11.25.08)
I can see her now foaming at the mouth. "What? Did somebody say God? Arrrggggg..."
3. Don't be so sure, Shlomo....
JewishDragonfly ,   Torrance, CA, USA   (11.25.08)
Our prayers will bring Moshiach, and death will become a thing of the past.
4. death is fact, not a mere risk
(11.25.08)
5. Israeli statistics strenghten this
Yerushalmi ,   Jerusalem   (11.25.08)
According to lishka merkazit lestatistika, Bene Berak is the israeli town with longest life expectancy, 2 years longer then national average, and 4 years longer then red Haifa, which is the city with shortest life expectancy. Haredim eat very unhealthy food, don't exercise, but live longer. They even published an article on Ynet about it few years back.
6. # 3 Good luck, keep praying,
Shlomo   (11.26.08)
Nature is God & God is nature. Nature is not based on life forever. If we don't take care of nature we are doomed, I would not like to live in a world full of people with an endless life,we are just passing through & we leave our offspring behind ( that's the Moshiah ). have a good life Mr Dragofly
7. Waiting for the live-in hate mailers
working army family   (11.26.08)
But we'll still pray for them, on SHABBAT, in birchat hamazon ( prayer after eating, did I hear the word KOSHER...?). Two among the magic words that send them ballistic. Her/their answer, Yeh right, while not paying taxes or serving in the army. Wrong, sad haters, but we'll still daven for you.
8. Well, Torat Chayim, Torah is Life... n/m
shneerhere ,   Chicago   (11.26.08)
9. Cuts risk of death...
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (11.26.08)
but increases incidence of brain damage. After all, how many tines can you hit yourself in the head without suffering permanent injury?
10. Because they are not serving in the army - duh
Avi ,   Ramat Gan   (11.26.08)
Sure while other young people are giving the best 3 years of their lives defending thier country these freeloaders are sitting on their backsides using religion as a means to dodge the draft. They do not accept the rules of the game - equal work, equal pay and equal duties. They said, 'No, we have a special status in which we do not work and we do not pay taxes and we do not defend the country; you defend it for us
11. Avi of Ramat Gan you are a fool
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (11.26.08)
The article does not say that being Chareidi cuts risk of death, it says praying cuts risk of death. And the study was not confined only to Jews and it was not confined to Israel only. And for the record, most IDF soldiers pray and most of those that pray serve in the army so what the heck are you blabbing about?
12. #2 Talula says she's her own God. How funny is that? Would
you want to follow ,   her??NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!   (11.26.08)
13. Moshiach???
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (11.26.08)
One poster wrote "Our prayers will bring Moshiach, and death will become a thing of the past." We have had at two "moshiachs" in our past. To date, death has not become a thing of history. To "JewishDragonfly", I wish you a long and healthy life; but please do not hold your breath in anticipation of the moshiach. Death will arrive for all of us. Some sooner, others later. Like certainty, death and taxes are inevitable.
14. Read it correctly
Charles ,   Petach Tiklva   (11.26.08)
...who are at REDUCED risk ...also be the ones attending services . This is written here . The same as an office employee who will have a reduced risk in accidents with heavy machinery .
15. Besalel , give references please
Charles ,   Petach tIkva   (11.26.08)
where did you take that most IDF soldiers pray ? Saying to someone that he is a fool , shows only your level . And the article say : attend services , not pray [ many people pray at home , no ? ]
16. # 2 Sagi's rabid response
Sagi ,   israel   (11.26.08)
People who pray are nuts and people who think that praying helps escape death or injury are bigger nuts. There is of course one grain of truth in it, that is if you pray all day long instead of serving your country and People by doing military service then of course you increase your chances of not dying in the battlefield by 100%.
17. # 3 You are
Sagi ,   Israel   (11.26.08)
the biggest nutter of them all.
18. A second response to Sagi
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (11.26.08)
Although the fictional tale is that the religious look down upon the secular it is in fact the reverse that is true. "Anyone who prays is nuts," brays Sagi. Millions of people are nuts. Nobel prize winner, doctors, scientists, mathematicians, plumbers, lawyers, accountants, world leaders; those that pray have found themselves into every segment of society, yet they are all nuts. There is no room for the seculars to accept anything or anyone other than what they hold dear. Anyone who disagrees is nuts, of course! I never heard a religious person say "its nuts to be secular." So who is more tolerant of whom?
19. Which Religious Services?
david ,   Zefat   (11.26.08)
The study was done by the Yeshiva College; but the photo is, clearly, of a church. Note the "saint" with the halo in the right-hand painting, the picture of Yeshu on the left-hand painting, the woman is not wearing a head covering, and the boy is not wearing a yarmulke.
20. Moshiach
JewishDragonfly ,   Torrance, CA, USA   (11.27.08)
Well, we had Dovid, we had other "annointed" people who were called Moshiach, but we didn't have THE Moshiach ben Dovid, yet. We will, and you'll see.
21. Nutter? As in...
JewishDragonfly ,   Torrance, CA, USA   (11.27.08)
I hope to clean off the husks (klippot) and grab the meat of the "nut" that is this world. I hope so.
22. David , Zefat
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.27.08)
The study was done with women from different beliefs , not only Jewish . But they could have shown a Jewish picture of course .
23. Besalel , how many Jewish Nobel prize
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.27.08)
winners were , or are , praying ? Can you give their names ? Saying of someone who is NOT praying that he is not Jewish , is this tolerance ? And this is said more than once by religious people . Throwing stones at a car , is this tolerance ? burning a shop for selling MP4 players ? is this tolerance ? I have never heard of a store selling "holy books" set a flame for this , by seculars . So who is intolerant ? This being said , there are tb'ers who are extremists in their anti religious ideas , and say that those who are praying are nuts . It's stupid too .
24. Correction to my # 23
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.27.08)
Last sentence must be : it's stupid to say it .
25. Just wondering
curious ,   haifa israel   (11.27.08)
can it be the other way round? The healthier lot is visiting their church/beth knesseth regularly while these suffering of chronical diseases stay at home? Of course real faith overcomes sore legs, but if we take into account people praying just out of habit...
26. Charles!
david ,   Zefat   (11.27.08)
Thanks Charles, I should have used the link before commenting.
27. Charles, I am trying to respond
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (11.27.08)
for some reason my responses to you are not getting posted. i may have been marked by the editors for my non-conformist views. i will try again, though: Aumann won the nobel prize in math and he is observant. not to mention the countless others before him. also, the stats i had that most in the idf pray came from a ynet article published in September. i will not post the link because maybe that is what is getting my posts deleted.
28. Praying reduces the risk of death?
Talula ,   Israel   (11.27.08)
Really? What happend to all those Yeshiva students shot to death in their Yeshiva not so long ago? More garbage in a desperate bid to turn Israel into Iran.
29. Besalel , there is NO math Nobel prize !!!
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.27.08)
Aumann won the Nobel in economy . The second praying Jewish Nobel is Agnon , Nobel litterature in 1966 [ shared with Nelly Sachs , also Jewish ] . Please give some names of the "the countless others before him" as you wrote . Give the link where it was told that most IDF soldiers pray . I'm very curious .
30. 2 & 12 I'm flattered!
Talula ,   Israel   (11.27.08)
I'm blushing to think that I'm the first one you thought about after reading this nonsense. The seeds of doubt have been planted. Now just sit and watch them grow.
