Every time there is a threat to Israel the present government of Israel capitulates. We have seen this in Lebanon 2000, Gaza, Lebanon 2006, recently the government was discussing the withdrawal from North Israeli border with Lebanon that should fall under U.N. supervision. Soon we going to see Jerusalem and Golan Heights surrounded if the government is not voted out the office. Chabad centers provide kosher food, Shabbat hospitality, Torah study and - in the case of the Mumbai center - drug rehabilitation. Most of the visitors are not religious at all. Many have come to India to get some 'spirituality.' And Chabad helps to fight against this searching for spirituality in other places.

chabad's purpose is to make jews more observant. along the way they also help with drug addiction, serve hot meals and generally provide a warm family like atmosphere for jews wherever they are travelling. since so many jews (israelis) travel to india there are quite a few chabad houses there, but there are in almost every country in the world as well.

nobody 'makes' anybody observant. They 'make' them feel they have a home away fron home, but you know this don't you. Send them a donation as a way of apologising. All parents of those that Chabad have helped should send a donation, such as the parents of the drugged, lost, imprisoned and suicidal that these shlichim have saved. It's the leat you can do. Yes, our family has sent a donation and did so when our children and grandchildren were holidaying in Thailand and spent a Shabbat with them.

Presentation of a firearm does NOT confer on the giftee the needed mindset, and practical skills needed to make the cost and presentation effective. I can give you a Glock(the Model of your choice)and make you a skilled and confident shootist, but it would take a time and personal committment and effort on your part.
