1. ARE THE GIRLD GOING TO SING HATIKVA ON INDEPENDANCE DAY ????
(12.08.08)
2. Send the children of parents that want
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.08.08)
the arabs in the school to arab schools. Show everyone how liberal you are. That you are not racist. As for the children of refugees, sent them to their own school.
3. Do they also complain ...
Amy ,   off rt 40   (12.08.08)
... if new olim from France and the UK send their children to the school? Those children also have trouble with the language.
4. Arabs in Jewish school.
Birdi ,   Te Aviv   (12.08.08)
How is it possible that two Arabs kids can lower the academic standard of one school ?
5. students
colin   (12.08.08)
Are the girls Israeli.??They have every right to the same education as a jewish Israeli
6. As Israeli Arabs swamp Israel expect more of this...
(12.08.08)
What do people expect? Hasn't anyone picked up that Arabs don't actually integrate - they take over. They will use our systems to defeat us without a shot being fired and no one can do anything about it because these people have equal rights - equal rights to rise in number while on welfare to then take over the country.
7. to no 6
Julia ,   Hod HaSharon   (12.08.08)
just guess what would happen, if those girls eventually learn Hebrew, their parents give the ok for them to go to University and they turn out to be real educated and with a profession which makes them more than equal in our super jewish society... hooooooo what a scary thought. also, what the ...., olim don't speak hebrew, african immigrants appreciate our country more than we do, so they do learn the language and the people of Tikvah, are mostly second generations from arab speaking countries...
8. And since when Hatikva knows good Hebrew?
(12.08.08)
9. re no 6
jude   (12.08.08)
oh welcome to the world... this called a " multi cultural " society & the reality is that is what Israel is... the Israeli Arabs are citizens with equal rights , that is a fact - you can choose to deal with it in a positive tolerant inclusive way, or stick your head in the ground & make " comments" like yours which are inbuilt to not deal with the changes in your society pragmatically. Unless you think that Israeli Arabs are going to disappear. .. cause they aint. Have a look at the New Israel Fund projects & you will see another side of the coin.
10. poor girls
Ivan ,   Haifa   (12.08.08)
studying under these conditions...
11. KKK, Jewish style
chop-chop   (12.08.08)
Yes Israel, you are a racist and becoming an ugly society. Instead of welcoming african and arab kids so they can learn tolerance, friendship, understanding (obviously, missing in many jewish homes)you are calling for "pure sagregation" in order to perpetuate the same ugly "tradition"handed over by YOUR parents. You complained about Jews not being accepted in medical and other higher education schools in Europe, not being accepted in the US corporate world,or prestigious law offices; what you are doing is simply continuing this vicious circle so that your children will become like you. I don't think you need a classroom for this, you are doing a great job without it An Israeli and a Jew.
12. This will create more hatred
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (12.08.08)
I can just imagine how these little girls must feel. I am a firm believer that Israel belongs to the Jewish people; but to make a fuss over the admission of two little girls into a Hebrew-speaking Israeli school is beyond me. If anything, it will integrate those girls into Israeli society. They will be celebrating Jewish holidays with them (though they should be excused). They will learn Hebrew. Shame on those parents who want to block their admission into the school!
13. #7 hey genius
Yonah ,   Hebron   (12.08.08)
Have you ever been to Lod, Haifa? In fact, there are many places that has happened already. It's not a possibility for the future, it's happenning right now. Not only that, your nice government is allowing arabs to cross over from Jordan and fill Shomron & Yehuda. Welcome to the future brainchild.
14. I just called the school
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (12.08.08)
and told them that I think this is terrible - two little girls who want to study. This will cause more hatred from their side if they are not allowed in. Shame on those parents who are keeping them from studying there.
15. Let it be about selectivity too.
Ephraim ,   NYC/Kfar Tapuach   (12.08.08)
I hesitate to use the word racism, because it's not racism. We don't hate the arabs because they are a different skin color, we hate them because they are waging war on us. And even the arabs that are not shooting at us directly, they too hate Israel and will do much to see it's end.
16. Forecast
Raphael ,   Netanya   (12.08.08)
If you need an idea of the future evolution, pls read "The lost territories of the Republic", written by a group of teachers in the Paris suburbs. After 40 years of continuous muslim inflow, the result is an educational system out of control: sexism, racism (against blacks & whites), antisemitism, bullying teachers on the basis of "islamicallly correct" statements(no mention of Shoah and of Jews in history lectures, no physiology lectures, no swimming pools, hallal kitchen, separate toilets for muslims), breakdown of the educational level. And a hothouse for islamist ideology.
17. Send them to Jordan
anat   (12.08.08)
18. 2 arab girls
DAVID ,   herzlia,israel   (12.08.08)
this is plain racism !!!, i can just imagine what would WE jews say if two jewish girls were refused entry to a school anyplace in the world because they are jewish !!!!!!!!!! your would hear shouts of anti-semitism, etc ....... DISGUSTING
19. So much for "The dream"
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (12.08.08)
So much for the dream of an integrated society. Children learn language quickly, so that's NOT a concern. Get a grip....and let the children feel love, not fear.
20. to # 16
(12.08.08)
are you serious?, such paranoia !!!, you are afraid of 2 arab girls, 20 arab girls ?, 200 arab girls ? they just want to study and you already have disaster scenario:... you should be in Holywood.
21. #2 no 'aliyah
English person ,   London   (12.08.08)
After reading your comment, I remembered why I did not take up the offers to go and live in the promised land. Yet again, any excuse to express your caustic racism. I think there is a nice plot waiting for you in Borobidjan where there are no Arabs. You might be happy there.
22. the REAL reason
Mati P ,   talpaz   (12.08.08)
is that once they have to learn Jewish history, they will protest and make the school change its curriculum to a more Arab-centered view just like everywhere else in the world. If it were a perfect world, we wouldn't have to worry about things like this...
23. it's racism (+ responses: #1-21)
Avinoam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.08.08)
We're talking about an elementary school. You aren't expected to have prior knowledge. And with all due respect, what exactly do you learn in elementary school? Isn't the biggest lesson discipline (scoff) and social interaction? So what exactly are the parents afraid of? All in all, integration is a good thing. One of our biggest problems is the alienation of non-Jewish citizens, and polarisation. #3,4,5,7*,9*,12,14,18,19,20,21 agreed (*recommended) #1 Why not? It's not religious. Although I abhor anthems in general. #2 it's not for show, it's for justice. #6 yes, because kids prefer to be part of a great conspiracy, rather than make friends at school. #8,10, 17 irrelevant #11 you're taking it a bit far. There is a clear voice in opposition to this racist behaviour, what was not true when the KKK was around. Your comparison only arms anti-semites with more libel, and further polarises our society. The idea is to bring people closer, you're not helping. #13 economy is the determining factor, not race. Arabs do happen to be poorer in general, so there is an observed correlation, but there is no causal link. Arabs living in the same neighbourhood should have similar economic grounding, thus nullifying the correlation. Your argument is racist. If our society held academic achievement in high regard then children would be compelled to strive for it, regardless of race. As it stands our society does not care about academics, as can be seen in the budget. #15 that's a very delicate point. Have you considered that integration of the Israeli Arabs would lessen this problem? We cannot do a lot about the older generation, but children do not have political agendas of their own. If they have Jewish friends from childhood will that not make it more difficult for them to support foreigners who want to kill their friends? Have you also considered that the Arab parents must be of a particular state of mind if they want to send their children to a predominantly Jewish school? Consider what kind of Jew would send his child to a predominantly Arab school. Do you think it is wise to alienate THESE Arab parents? Does that not in fact aggravate the very problem which you state? #16 interesting point, but this is not France. They have an insanely leftist interpretation of Democracy.
24. Send jewish kids to jewish religios schools.
Texas ,   US   (12.08.08)
There will not be no arabs there. Problem solved. The state schools are for all citisens.
25. racism 101
avi ,   nyc   (12.08.08)
To all the idiotic posters as well as the author, racism axiomatically by definition requires the two parties to be of different races. Since Jews and arabians are of similar caucasoid semitic stock, any discrimination in either direction is not categorized as racism. Becoming a "NORMAL" nation should not mean throwing out a 5000 year old culture and copying another's rhetoric. It would be helpful to consult a dictionary first.
26. It's sad to realize we're living in a racist, ugly society
Moshe Cryan ,   Israel   (12.08.08)
It is very sad to see just how racist Israeli society has become, and the best ways to turn that ugly trend around is to integrate our schools and teach or children to respect the equality and rights of all people. We above all people of the world should not be making excuses bigotry, but instead demonstrating to others how to overcome those who harbor prejudice towards others by numerically overwhelming them into silence forever.
27. just imagine
Yonatan ,   new york   (12.08.08)
just imagine if this headline were turned around London elementary school: No Jews allowed Parents at London neighborhood School outraged by decision to integrate Jewish students in classes, say their concerns are for school's academic level, not racially motivated etc etc. what would the reaction be?
28. Stop the squealing, it's got nothing to do with racism.
Tahl ,   Israel   (12.08.08)
As the academic level of Israel's students plummets further and further down in recent years, the few schools capable of maintaining a high level should do everything they can to preserve this. Over the recent decades, integration in schools has proven to be a failure. The weaker students brought down the entire class with them. Only in cases where very few students are integrated, there's a chance for absorbing them well, but mass-integration is doomed to fail. The parents' concern here has nothing to do with racism or Arab-hating. They would have reacted the same, had the school been asked to integrate Ethiopian students, or weaker, learning-disabled students of any ethnicity. If we're talking about only two Arab girls, then I see no problem with that. If however this would open the gates to a flood of many others, then yes, there is a problem. Hayarden school serves as a proof!
29. listen all of you
(12.08.08)
the parents objecting HAVE A RIGHT TO BE CONCERNED. my friend teaches at a chicago, illinois school, mainly american children. the school standing was incredible and was considered a top notch academic institution with test scores that were very very high. two years ago, an adjacent community has expanded in terms of residents that were mexican immigrants. that community's schools were geared to an overflow of mexican immigrants with special classes designed just for them since they knew no english and never really went to school on a regular basis in mexico. there were so many of these children that the "good school" had to accept a transfer of 200 of these students into the mainly english speaking population. guess what? the scores dropped extensivelly, putting the school on a watch list of a future closure if the national scores are not to increase according to the no child left behind government rule. teachers spent multitudes of hours at the expense of individual attention to the english speaking children who were left behind by teachers who assumed that "they are smart and can figure tasks on their own". the english population suffered academic neglect because teachers were spending hours more with disadvantaged students from mexico and so, the school standards fell miserably within two years' time. because of poor performance in the school, many english parents chose to leave and put their children in private schools or pay $9,000 to shift them into other public schools in the same district and drive the kids themselves instead of free bussing. the atmosphere in the school changed and so did future teaching selections and hirings. the school spent thousands of dollars on spanish books and hiring spanish speaking teachers, tutors, high tech spanish programs and at the end, nothing was left to support the american kids' needs in that school. the school communication with the mexican parents, no matter how many invitations to parent conferences were sent, these parents never showed up for these meetings or showed any concern about their children's poor performance at the school. much more occured at the disadvantage of the english speaking students that the school collapsed under heavy funding needs for the mexican children. so, these parents have a right to be concerened. i , as a teacher that has been through this experience would have the same basic concerns. this has zero to do with racism and much more to do with a genuine concern as to the future ability of this school to address everyone's needs and a concern that their children would suffer not from arabs in the class, but from the reasons i wrote above. as a principal and a former teacher, i for one, agree with these israeli parents. i have seen with my own eyes what happened to the above mentioned school in chicago. since then, the chicago school system has suffered many more school closings because of poor performance of some schools on national tests. this was so unfair to the english speaking population at that school.
30. Remember guys: You have chosen to leave the whole world
Israeli Arab   (12.08.08)
and come and live among us. It is not us who have came to live among you. I understand why some in the community are afraid from the Arabs. Well, you are worried that we will do to you what you have done to us! Expel, discriminate, etc... Having said that, there is one way out. Respect... If we do not respect each other, there is no way out of this, no way to reconcile and keep going. We must put behind all the differences and focus on the future.
