1. Easier harassing Jews than fighting terrorists
trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (12.11.08)
Let us hope for the better in february 2009
2. how? why?
observer   (12.11.08)
Israel would not allow any element within Israeli society to harass people who express their opinions; logic words that do not apply. But the police failed to arrest the settler who placed pipe bomb outside the home of Professor Ze'ev Sternhell. The police fear these settlers because they do not have the tools to deal with them. Even, when the settler who turned himself in to the police and confessed the Hebron shooting of two Palestinians, was sent home after reprimanding the Police for not arresting the Palestinians who "neutralized" the settler! You know why because the ruling Judge Aviv is a settler herself for a long time; how can long term breacher of international law be posted a judge? Another simple question: why civilian law applies to settlers on disputed land (by Israel's definition), while military law applies to Arabs on their own land?
3. To # 2
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.11.08)
The judicial commentator on Israel radio said that this Judge was correct . And as people always blame our media to be leftist , he certainly told the truth . You say it's an occupation , well in "occupied" territories military law applies . The settlers are NOT "occupied" , so they enjoy civil law
4. why the ratio is five times; soldiers' testimonies
observer   (12.11.08)
>>During a shift of patrol 20, whose mission it is to patrol the western side of the “casbah”, I was called to leave the “casbah” and get to the police post by the “tomb of the patriarchs”. When I arrived at the police post I found out that my mission was to accompany an Officer of the Israeli Police to the barracks, and this was in order to provide him with protection from the settlers in “avraham aveinu” on his way to the barracks. >>In Hebron, the settlers built an illegal outpost and they decided that the local population could not use the route that the settlers used on their way to prayers, despite the fact that they had no authority to do so. Whenever an Arab walked by they would throw stones and shout at him and sometimes even beat them. The settler’s children heaped abuse on the Arabs and pregnant Arab women. They denigrated the religious soldiers in our platoon and said that they did not deserve to be religious >>During a shift of patrol 30 whose mission it is to patrol around the western side of the “casbah”, I was summoned over “Beit Sharabati”, which was a deserted Arab house next to the “avraham avinu” neighborhood. In order to remove a group of “settlers” who had infiltrated the house. The patrol that was under my command spent three hours of continuing violent struggle with the settlers, all this instead of patrolling the “casbah”. During the clash police officers arrived “givat avot” police station and were immediately pelted with eggs and rocks. >>During a patrol in Hebron which took place during an Arab holy day and there were festivities of food and fun. The Jewish residents of Hebron started to run about and over turn Arab stalls and I personally saw “Magav” (Border) policemen helping them and beating Arabs, telling them to shut up and be quiet.
5. observer... annoying
Joseph D ,   Italy   (12.11.08)
ehi observer you are well known here for your propaganda annoying, we want to read you talking about your fellow palestinians crimes for one time
6. Yeah I don't see what the problem is
Northern ,   Ocllo   (12.11.08)
A violent region, with violent settlers requires a lot of security forces. That's it. They're like that bully kid in the childhood who would pick on everyone and then cry that "the teacher hates him!!". Stop being violent, settlers. Oh, and it's time for you to return into Israel from Palestine.
7. to#3
jane   (12.11.08)
If the territories are 'occupied', as you seem to agree, then the Palestinians are fighting an occupation and can therefore not be terrorists and Israel is committing war crimes by bulldozing houses, killing children, building WALLS, colective punishment etc. If these sttlers had been Beduoin (also Israeli citizens) or Palestinians then of course they would have been shot at, gassed, had their homes demolished and punched, kicked and beaten. The difference in approach towards Arab citizens (not to mention the occupied Palestinians) confirms Israel's status as the Apartheid nation par excellance.
8. sickening
Michael ,   Haifa   (12.11.08)
The idea of a "Yesha Human Rights Organization" is a sick joke. Yesha tramples other human beings' rights on a wholesale basis, although Yesha probably doesn't recognize the "others" as human beings
9. Poor, innocent sttlers?
Richard ,   London UK   (12.11.08)
TheIsraeli settler caught opening direct fire on Palestinians in Hebron is under house arrest. The Israeli administration began working immediately on damage control as Israeli settlers went out of control in the southern West Bank last week of which this arrest is a part. Outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert referred to the attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians as “pogroms” for which he was ashamed. An Israeli security official told the press that Israel was lucky that more of the settler brutality was not filmed during last week’s attacks when Israeli soldiers attempted to remove Israeli settlers from the Palestinian Al Rajabi home. The shooter was placed under house arrest in the Kiryat Arba Settlement in the center of the Palestinian city. Zeev Braudah was accused in the Israeli Magistrate's Court in occupied Jerusalem of shooting a Palestinian son and his father in Hebron.
10. Who knew?
Gideon Reader   (12.11.08)
Petty polititurds utilizint the IDF, the Mish and their political offices(the power of the government) for crass political purpose. And it is a losing effort. The targeted sector is the number of votes that the malpracticing government needs to be maintained in office. They will not get them, ergo their "heavy hands" are self defeating.
11. ALL ISRAELI 'SETTLERS' ARE HEROES.
Petra ,   USA   (12.11.08)
ALL OF ISRAEL SHOULD FOLLOW THEIR EXAMPLE OR, THERE WONT BE AN ISRAEL LEFT AFTER THESE BOZOS GIVE IT AWAY.
12. Many talk backers do not understand statistics.
rebecca ,   modiin   (12.11.08)
Or they dont want to. One of the most telling stats given here, and I'm sure we've been spared the really interesting ones, is the one of the % convictions. Taking into account our very left wing courts that statistic screams unfairness.
