This despicable service was in fact organised by an activist group calling themselves "Jews for boycotting Israeli goods" (JBIG), and is just one manifestation of a growing and worrying phenomena in Britain. Sadly, too many British Jews seem to feel the need to publicly demonise Israel and anything or anyone Israeli. Prior to Israel's 60th anniversary we saw a letter in a major newspaper signed by 100 British Jews and ex-Israelis condeming the celebration of Israel's independance. This may be some sort of feeble attempt to assimilate into a society in which Israelis are demonised as the cause of all the world's ills by the media, academia and numerous extremely well organised pro-Palestinian organisations with overt links to the Muslim Brootherhood and Hamas. It certainly makes the history lessons of pre-WW2 europe resound loud and clear in my mind. As an Israeli currently living in the UK, the overall message I have received from the Jewish community here is that they want nothing to do with us - they do not wish to be damned by association and don't want us "rocking the boat" of their (fragile) assimilated status in this country. Anti-semitism is a serious problem here - not infrequently Jews are physically attacked in the streets, there is accepted anti-semitism in universities and places of work and almost daily I encounter posters telling me that I am an apartheid supporting child-murderer. (Yes, I'll be home as soon as I can!). There are two worrying aspects to this situation. One - let us hope and pray that the Jewish population of europe will not find itself yet again in a situation in which it needs to evacuate in the face of life-threatening danger (not as far-fetched as it sounds, believe me).Two - if, God forbid, Israel is ever in need of British aid to combat, let's say, a threat of annihalation from Iran, public opinion here is already so severely anti-Israeli that a British government could not respond. The bottom line is that the Israeli government needs to immediately step up and vastly improve its public relations within Britain and Europe in general. Ambassador Ron Proser is doing an exceptional job so far, but much more is needed.

1st of all it's pitiful enough to read that Israel's representative in UK can raise such statement "hoped had passed from this world". I wonder what does he teach at his home "dear son, whenever a strange person approaches you in the street, be kind and warm, for we live in a new world." It's amazing how people are so arrogant as to think their generation made such an impact in a God-only-knows-for-how-many-years-have-this-thing-called-Earth been in existance, with people inhabiting it - and yet so naive to think that centuries, thousand years old human relation problems were cured, forever. The last thing worth mentiong here is: again, the problem is wrong sighted. I don't give a damn if anti-semits behave like anti-semits, what in fact calls my attention - and my anger - is what do our brethren have to say about joining such activities against their own history (apparently they don't care for it at all, that may be one answer).
