1. OK THEN RECOGNIZE ALL JEWISH SETTLERS FIRST
Petra ,   USA   (12.11.08)
IT'S ONLY FAIR AND THE RIGHT THING TO DO.. STOP PUNISHING JEWS FOR LIVING IN ALL OF ISRAEL THEIR ANCIENT HOMELAND. I THOUGHT BEDOINS KEPT MOVING WHY 'SETTLE' NOW, PART OF ISRAELS LAND THEY WANT FOR THEMSELVES?

I think the Beduion were in the Negev (and other parts of Palestine) long, long before settlers from Brooklyn came along and usurped them. It's a testament to the malign nature of Israeli society than the Beduion, who are israeli citizens and many of whom have served in the IOF, have a lower life expectancy, a higher infant mortality rate and are subject to having their houses bulldosed on repeated occasion. (by the way, can anyone else think of another civilised country that uses the bulldoser as an instrument of Govt policy?)
3. If they were Jews, they'd be expelled by force.

Beating the hell out of the trespassers? So, it's ok to recognize arab illegal building but it's not ok to recognize jews who buy a house legally with lots of money.
6. Double Standards: No wonder settlers give trouble

What will the insane extremist ones of the left and Likud do next ? Arrest fellow Jews and expel them from their homes ? Turn a blind eye to the Islamic terrorists as they attack Israeli cities ? Release them from prisons for nothing in return ? Given them more land in which to launch attacks against Israel ? Train and supply their standing armies and feed their families as well as sned them hundreds of millions of shekels to keep them a strong and growing threat to Israel ? The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. Proverbs 3:33
8. Recognize Israel
Rivkah Rybak ,   Israel   (12.11.08)
Recognize Israel, all of Israel as the Jewish state.
9. Jane,what country do you live in?
Judah ,   Israel   (12.11.08)
Is it America or Canada where the land was stolen from the aboriginals or Australia where the same was done? The Bedouin were a nomadic people and never owned any land in the Negev. As for your remark that the Jews come from Brooklyn, this just shows your ignorance. Only a small amount of Jews made aliya from Brooklyn and their ancestors only lived in America for a hundred years or so. If you don't want to believe the bible then you can at least believe Roman texts and maps that prove that the Jews lived here thousands of years ago. Of course there is also the archaelogical ruins yet I am sure that you believe that aliens placed the structures, coins and ancient synagogues in the spots that they are unearthed.
10. #4 Bang on!
Talula ,   Israel   (12.11.08)
Bedouins were in the Negev long LONG before the demented settlers came. They are fantastic soldiers and an asset to the IDF. They are natural born trackers. It's disgusting the way they are treated. The final straw was when an IDF soldier's home was buldozed. That's just beyond repellent! Once again Petra talks about something she knows nothing about.
11. Israel, what a chutzpa
m   (12.11.08)
He doesn't like what Petra is saying so he wants her shut up. Israel this is not yet Soviet Union, people who don't toe the line still can speak, even though not for long.

Thank you for exposing the hypocritical double standards held by the Israeli government. This is not a nation where "Rule of Law" reigns, as Ehud Barak put it while throwing Jews out of homes the LEGALLY purchased- this is a nation where the Court of International Opinion reigns, legality be d***ed. If the Israeli Government wants to destroy Jewish settlements, they should destroy Arab settlements too.
13. Perhaps if Israel would enforce the law against polygamy...
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (12.12.08)
Although it may not be as widespread as it once was, polygamy continues to be practiced among the Bedouin. So it's not surprising they exhibit high birth rates and poverty. With population increase comes pressure leading to illegal settlement. ("The Israelis" also mentions the high incidence of birth defects among this community, which is probably related.) "Rule of law" remains a dead letter as long as the Bedouin continue to flout the law against polygamy and the government chooses to turn a blind eye to it. After the fact legalization of these settlements does nothing to address the underlying problem.
