1. one more detail
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (12.21.08)
The article forgets to mention that the Second Intifada of 2000 was started in Ehud Barak's disastrous term, the same Barak who is still running for PM. The article also forgets to mention that Arafat started the war after Barak agreed to retreat to 1967 borders and the main sticking point was the number of Arabs who would move into the micrscopic Israel.
2. Yes #1...They all have very short memory's
GUHBAG   (12.21.08)
3. Response well overdue, completely understandable.
Australian Guy   (12.21.08)
Irrespective of who is apparently in the "right" about the ongoing dispute between Israel and the Palestinians, there is no doubt that continued rocket fire and now recently , mortars has to be stopped. The Palestinians really from their behaviour - don't appear to want peace...or a state..that sits alongside Israel. Just confrontation. They behave as is they have a death wish, but as soon as they take a hit - cry foul. Many see this as 'crocodile tears'. There's a few people that sympathize with them ..but those supporting the Palestinians are let down badly by their behaviour and this is why anti-Israeli movements cant find any real traction in the general Western populace. I'd note that if the Israelis conducted themselves as their enemy - I predict there would not have been 60 or so years of "trouble" - the Israelis would have eliminated the Palestinians outright. Nobody left to complain. I sincerely hope that Israel prevails - what a dark, backward place it would become if their enemies were to succeed..and I doubt the "problems" would disappear - the world would still be paying for these no-hopers.
4. prediction
Danny   (12.21.08)
IDF will fight with one hand tied behind it's back. The press will make a big fuss of what will be relatively insignificant casualties, rocket fire will continue allowing Hamas to claim "victory", international press will uncritically accept any BS put out by the Palestinians, within a few days the international community will try to "restore peace", rocket goes up the intensity of Israeli bombing will go up, sooner or later we hit an bystanding family with get 24*7 coverage and we are forced to stop having not achieved what we wanted.
5. Talk, Talk, Talk, while hamas laughs and fires rockets!
GET REAL ,   USA   (12.21.08)
6. Concessions, leftist policies....
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (12.21.08)
The current situaion is the result of giving uo the Phaladelphi Corridor and the subsequent disengagement from Gaza. Don't send the troops in, just bomb the factories, roads and bridges and keep the pressure on. Cut off electrical and fuel supplies and pay no attention to the international community.
7. never,as long as traitorous gangster olmert is PM
CHAIM ,   brooklyn ny   (12.21.08)
8. Just bomb every electricity source, every tunnel.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.21.08)
Don't send troops to be in danger, drop bombs.
9. Round and Round She Goes, to No Where
Dav Lev ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (12.21.08)
Is this analysis for real? What nonsense. Let's see, no matter the IDF response, Kassams will still plague Israel, so be prepared residents. Then, after awhile, assuming the UN doesn't interfere, they will lessen. Things will eventually go back to square 1, or perhaps 2, then back to 1 or perhaps 2. Israel has no plan of action, nothing viable, is confused, apologies for failure before any action is taken. Just think, the mighty Israel, which defeated entire armies in 6 days back in the old days, 1967, cannot handle what is a guerrilla force backed by a few thousand so-called Hamas and Islamic soldiers, with no arms but RPGs, automatic rifles, and roadside bombs. This is too much for me. To Israel: some advice, just hit the Palis cities 24-7 with 20,000 rounds from your artillery..no tanks, no soldiers, no airplanes..that should quiet them down for decades.
10. Once we start....
Yehuda ,   Holit, Israel   (12.21.08)
We cannot stop till the job is done. We canot be detered by world opinion and we all must steel ourselves for what ever comes. Otherwise we will have another 2006 war outcome. If we are steadfast and hit them with all we have then we will win.
11. IDF LACKS MOTIVATION
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (12.21.08)
A major problem is that the Hamas-Gaza problem is so insignificant. It doesn't threaten Israel's existence, and the damages to areas around Gaza is annoying but not significant. How do you motivate soldiers to fight in situations like this, where they might lose their lives but can't gain anything important?
12. The time to eliminate Hamas is NOW!
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (12.21.08)
The lull in Gaza, like the Oslo Accords with Mr Arafat, is proving to be a fiction, but the Israeli government doesn't understand that yet, and neither does the world. There will never be a "good" time for fighting Hamas. The ability of Hamas to inflict casualties is small. If we can eliminate Hamas, now is the time to do it. Six months ago was much better. As to Hamas grip on Gaza consult : http://xrl.us/oxtnj
13. NO! DON'T ENTER AZZA NOT NOW!
Joel ,   Canada   (12.21.08)
Ehud the war monger who uses soldiers to redirect attention from his criminal investigations and Barak the career long soldier abandoner are still in power, when they order an entry without a major call up don't do it, you will only be left behind for dead like Gilad shalit. Yes Israel is rocketed and so what big deal, so was Nitevot and Kiryat Shmoneh for 8 and 20 years. When the Terrorists march openly in the thousands brandishing weapons calling for the death of Israel and Barak doesn't rocket them all at once putting a 5 year end to the rocket terror, don't expect that a baby game entry will make any show of power and success, canon meat should be sent instead send the Israeli Knesset members in place of your baby soldiers. Let the politicians experience what Azza is like and not as some word on paper, move the Knesset to Sderot today!
14. Just do it...
Malone   (12.21.08)
....and stop talking about it via the media!!! Why continually forecast intentions? Hamas doesn't believe these empty threats anymore, neither would I. Just shut up and do it.
15. When Will You Act, Barak?
GloomBoom.com ,   Nashville, USA   (12.21.08)
This guy is a wimp. They shoot rockets and you shoot words?
16. No amount of Viagra/Cialis can cure Olmert/Barak's Impotence
meir elazar   (12.21.08)
Tzipi has more balls than Olmert and Barak combined and that doesn't say much. Until the problem in Jerusalem is solve there is no hope of solving the problem in Gaza.
17. here is a idea you losers
eric ,   usa nyc   (12.21.08)
crush them..any questions ?
18. Steady Lads, steady,.....
Gideon Reader   (12.21.08)
...wait for it,, wait for it. Oh. "It" is cancelled again. We have to release some more murderers, and the Bus route has to be marked and some cash exchanged. But, "It" is a definitely a maybe, positively, possible go. Or Not.
19. Ron, What happened to the Super Secret Plan?
RickD ,   USA   (12.21.08)
I thought the govt and Israeli military had a Super Secret Plan that would win against Hamas and we were just waiting for the signal to engage. Now you say that Israel might suffer many casualties. Which is it? Super Secret Plan that wins against Hamas and gains all the objectives or no plan. Just fight like hell against Hamas until it's over. Israel can certainly beat this band of terrorists. It only has to want to do it.
20. broad operation in gaza is a mistake
Leon ,   Los Angeles, Ca   (12.21.08)
no matter how many palis are killed, they will still claim victory - as in 2nd lebanon war. you cannot fight a guerilla war in this way and win. they will hode behind their civilians and claim genocide or something of that sort.
21. The word "operation"
Sagi ,   Israel   (12.21.08)
is unsuitable. A war of total annihilation would be more to the point. I do of course mean the terror groups and the political leaders and not the Gaza population.
22. Its December not April Fools day
zionist forever   (12.21.08)
When I see even 1 Israeli soilder in Gaza I will believe it untill then I won't hold my breath. On Monday we light the first hanuka candle and remeber the courage jews used to have when they actualy fought their enemies and defeated them. If I see Olmert lighting a hanukia on tv as some sort of publicty stunt then my message to him will be clear if you want to remeber the courage of the Macabees then show some of it yourself and order that Gaza operation and defend the dam country.
23. WAR DRUMS
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (12.21.08)
With a general defeatist mentality and a confused leadership that is tyred of winning , normally we call them loosers , the beating of war drums is not encouraging. This is not the time the go into Gaza , to sacrifice our soldiers with as only objective , political gain and election manuvering. Only when there are people who do not care about world opinion and understand how to deal with a ruthless brutal enemy and a real love for our land , based on our Jewish inheritance can we sucseed, anything less will turn into another bloody nose for us.
24. bla, bla, bla, nothing changes
Shiloh   (12.21.08)
The 'establishment' again say's the arabs better be nice or they will come and spank them. Well, they never do, as they have been ordered by the American administration NOT to harm Hamas. I bet the Hamas are just shaking in their boots hearing YNET leak out this garbage. The leftist establishment will do nothing but evict Jews out of our land, to give it to the squatters who want to destroy us (along with the leftist 'jews').
25. ISRAELI OFFICIAL SAID
..............DACON9   (12.21.08)
''WE WILL PAY A PRICE'' translated that means: Israeli will not use overwhelming force Israel will be restrained as in lebonan war Israel will have mercy on the enemy at the expense of jewish cicilians and soldiers Israel be be restrained at the first shout from un / eu / usa / or even saddams ghost. the brave Israeli idf iaf will be at risk of being kidnapped and no one to come to their rescue for fear of ''world opinion''. israel will hand over golan and judea and sumeria for no reasons other then the world said they ''have to'' and if elected ,netanyahu based on his past will hand over Jerusalem thanks DACON9 jewswithviews@gmail.com
26. GAZA
moishe   (12.21.08)
Israel should use armed guided planes before they send in soldiers! it should be very risky to set up a rocket launch.
27. That's the spirit!
David ,   USA   (12.21.08)
Nothing quite like announcing defeat before the operation begins. Reminds me of when I was a lad in school and jokesters would stick a paper on my backside saying "kick me." Please UN, Please world, let us look tough before you make us stop and take our military toys and go home. We know hamas is going to win, just let us get a small lick in before we say uncle. signed: pathetic loosers.
28. will there be Winograd for those enthusiastic talk-backers?
observer   (12.21.08)
29. #3 Australian Guy!, is Australia that far?
observer   (12.21.08)
anti-Israeli movements cant find any real traction in the general Western populace??
30. #9 what is just in that?
observer   (12.21.08)
"just hit the Palis cities 24-7 with 20,000 rounds from your artillery..no tanks, no soldiers, no airplanes." that would only appease your tremendous fear of defeat.
