Is not Gaza-Hamas part of the Iranian noose threatening Israel? Success in Gaza is Israels immediate goal. Containment of Iran is strategic, for Israel and the entire region. It is in support of this goal that Egypt and the Saudis, etc. have been muted in their criticism, allowing the US and EU to give Israel time to do the job. What is most interesting is that the Syrian response appears limited to pulling back from the indirect peace talks. Where are the troops approaching the Golan intended to tie Israel down in the north? How come Hezbollah is more interested in preserving south Lebanon than Gaza-Hamas? We seem to be in a whole new regional ballgame!

Good. The syrians gave up land to turkey that tsyira had a better claim on because Turkey was resolute. Israel has a greater claim on golan than syria notwithstanding that it was obtained in a defensive war. And syria will never give up their terror axis, nor will they democratize. Forget about it. For Israel Holding the Golan is more important than peace with the Assad family. Syria should ask Israel for peace and offer in exchange the Golan. But of course that will not happen. So, there is no reason for Israel to be generous with the Mafia regime of Assad. The Assad family has established a hereditary dynasty shored up by repression within, and confrontation and terror abroad. The rule of the Assads is not aimed at improving the lot of their people or forwarding a particular ideology. They changed ideology from secular Arabism to a seemingly impossible confection of pan-Arabism and Islamist extremism.
