I hope the Hebrew was better than this translation. It starts off clear enough but then uses the same rhetoric that has not succeeded for the last 60 years. We are not morally superior. Our right to defend ourselves is not because of the Holocaust. More than that, what does hanging homosexuals, stoning women and cutting off children's arms have to do with this invasion? While it's true that the Europeans may have an "obsessive preoccupation with the actions of the Jews," that's not the point. The point the last thing we wanted to do is go into Gaza. Again. We didn't and we don't. But we had/have no choice. Whether or not this fits into some twisted Hamas strategy remains to be seen. But as for this speech, our obsessions are showing. And they are blurring the real message. That message should have been: We tried restraint, we waited and we endured more than anothher other UN member country would have endured.

You want us to treat you like we treat Sudanese, Afghans and Iraqis? Maybe we should reconsider because your level of barbarity is rising to theirs. How well this is written and how true. These words should be on the front page of every newspaper and on every TV and radio broadcast - over and over and over and over until the world finally understands that placing Western values on our enemies is like trying to feed steak to a newborn baby. His reference to the holocaust was not used as a defence for our use of self defence. Nowhere in his speech does it imply that only because of the holocaust we have a right to defend ourselves. Thats our innate right. What I got is that he is saying these slobs in Europe have been trying so desperetly to wash the blood off their hands using anything they can to depict Jews as evil, so they can assuage their guilty conscious. It's very easy to forgo responsibility to a victim when you can demonize them. On the other hand, it pisses the world off so desperetly that we're no longer sitting ducks or victims in the classical sense of the word. The reference to gays and women is used to depict a mentality that is pervasive in this corner of the world. It shows how we are not dealing with rational people but rather insidious monsters hell bent on mudering innocent people and Israeli military alike (they see no distinction). Your (Zvi) message is a childish and stupid one thats been reiterated incessantly. Mr Wohl's message strikes right at European hypocracy and shows them to be the double faced devils they've always been. Your message works with Americans who for the most part give us their support. Europe has always been vehemently against us. When dealing with Europeans you don't waste time appealing to elementary logic like the type your employing, you hit them ideaologically and let them know exactly that we know their malicious games. While I never have patience for the Israeli elite as they flip-flop on everything, at least this speech is sound. I just hope that more on the military front than the diplomatic one we can maintain our stance and accomplish something lasting. I'm sick of seeing my brothers suffering in the south while my people have the power to change this dismal reality.
