You can never destroy Hamas military wing you cut off one head and it will grow a new one to replace it. What can be done is destroy recources and damage their physical abilities to carry our attacks. If Barak & Livni are willing to risk election votes then they will authorise the neccesary ground operation because air strikes alone won't solve the problem they can only act as a first stage to a larger operation if its going to be done properly and we are going to do Hamas serious damage thats going to take them a long time to recover from. Half finish the job and the whole thing has been a waste of recources becase the job won't get done properly.

No one talks about the only way to defeat the Hamas and bring peace. It is not bombing attacks and ground assaults. Israel must accept a cease fire and start massive building of Jewish homes in Judea and Samaria. Only the permanent loss of land will bring the Hamas to surrender.

I realize it is easy for me to say this since I am in the U.S. and have never served in any armed forces or been in combat, but to me there is no alternative but to destroy Hamas. Hamas has declared that it intends to destroy Israel and kill as many Jews as possible. They have fired thousands of missiles into Israel over the last few years. They lose their right to complain of the level of Israel's response. If the goal of Hamas is to destroy Israel, it is totally legitimate for it to be Israel's goal to destroy Hamas, and all that support it. Israel should not apologize for killing civilians by accident until Hamas apologizes for killing Israeli civilians on purpose. If the State of Israel stands for anythiing, it must stand for this above all: NO ONE GETS TO KILL JEWS FOR FREE ANYMORE.

up until last sat, 8 yrs and thousands of hamas rockets killed just 10 israelis, ust a measure of how useless these mortars are. Now, of course hamas will emerge, just like hizbulla, stronger and more militant and likely to resume its suicide bombings again in major cities in revenge. We had 4 yrs of quiet here in tel aviv and other cities which was something, now we all face more bloodshed on our street.s war extracts a price on all sides, now it is the palestinians in gaza who are paying, but soon, we will all pay the price for the foolishness of our government. it would have been very easy to avoid all of this if we just talked to hamas (they were elected after all) and agreed a truce that eased the blockade on gaza, released shalit and stopped the rockets. now, welcome to a third intifada and a few more years of bloodshed.

Firstly, there may have been quiet in TA but there has been near non-stop shelling in the south. Are they less Israeli than you and me[I also live in TA]? Shame on you for your lack of concern about your fellow Israelis. Secondly, we have no suicide bombings in TA because we built a wall, and retook the West Bank and because our army systematically hunted down and KILLED the "militants" in the West Bank and have retained that chokehold. Thirdly, have you ever listened to what Hamas actually says? There is no piece with them. None. With Hizbullah and Hamas it is a zero sum game.

It’s hard to respond credibly from the comforts of Miami, but “just 10 israelis”? You must be kidding!!! Even one Israeli is one too many. If just one missile would have landed in Tel Aviv you would have responded differently to Israel’s latest actions. The problem is that you, just like the government, are treating the brave people of Sderot as second-rate citizens.

Israel is fighting with one hand behind its back and is trying not inflict too many civilian casualties because of world public opinion. But Hamas has no scruples and will gladly kill as many Israeli civilians as they can and the world will support Hamas as "freedom fighters". Israel has to start inflicting massive civilian casualties as would Hamas if the shoe were on the other foot. Let world public oipinion be damned and put and end to the Hamas crazies once and for all.

The West should not be the only one to respect the Geneva convention. As has been proven since 60 years, unfortunately, peace is not an option in this part of the world. The Muslims in general and the Arabs in particular do not make a lasting peace. The maximum that Israel can aim for is a temporary limited ceasefire or an armistice.
